How to Add LED Strip Lights to Work Van
Переглядів 180 тис.6 років тому
Made a video to show how I added LED strip lights to the back of my work van (2016 Ford Transit Connect). LE 16.4ft Waterproof Flexible LED Light Strip www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HSF66JO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Tools & Material I used: 16.4 Ft Waterproof Flexible LED Light Strip 22/4 Wire Butt Connectors 22 to 16 AWG Electrical tape Wire strippers Multimeter Soldering Iron...
Thanks bro
but no fuse you need to fuse it
so no one is going to comment how he burn the plastic on hes van 🤣
Looks good, dude. Now I have an idea 💡 of how to light mine up ! Thanks 👍
any issues with lights eventually falling down
Yes, I ended up adding some hot glue to the strips. It has held since then.
Hey Robert, this is exactly what I wanna do with my econoline. Is there any issues with splicing into the existing cab light as far as power goes? Like the fuse or the wiring being able to handle the draw?
I haven’t had any issues. With it being LED lights it doesn’t require much power/amps.
Roger that. I'm lighting that thing up by the end of the week. Thanks, man
are these just in series or parallel? do you notice a brightness difference if in series?@@robertreyes4269
Thanks Robert!
why not just go one round HAHAHA
Unless I missed it, the original cargo light is only operable by Fords ‘Better Ideas’ Body Control Module and we are at the whim of their idiotic timing program. I have the 2017 version and I have had the battery die on me numerous times because, like any other service vehicle, we are always in and out all the time. Fords stupid logic is ALL the perimeter lights come on at any opening for 10 MINUTES or until ALL doors are shut. And if you happen to open another door…the 10 minute timer starts all over again! They say it’s impossible to change it but hey! Easy turned off by pushing the turn signal forward then pulling back cancels it!!! Until you open another fkn door! Once I complete my anger management course thanks to but not funded by Ford,(😂) I will trace the trigger wire as it enters the BCM then add a switch to it so I have control, not the BCM. With light I will add to my van, I will run a dedicated line with my own switches. I’ve actually gone out and bought a NOCO Li-po battery booster and have already used it a few times!
Nice work!
Thank you!
Good video
Hi, I want to do the same for my van.. will it burn the fuses or fry the main board once I start the engine ?
No, I haven’t had any issues and it’s been 4 years since I put them in. Only thing is I would recommend to have the engine running if you’re going to have the doors open for light. It did kill my battery once and I had to jump start.
No offense but you sound like Andre 3000... spit them bars
Haha. Thanks for the compliment! I love Andre 3000.
How do we change belts
Good idea I'm going to do the same my interior lights are missing so I'm going to add the LEDs 👍🏾👍🏾
Great video, gonna try something like this in my 2022 Ford Transit Connect 😎🛠️😎🛠️😎
Well done. I’m doing the same but running my tape long ways with white and blue leds.
Im getting no power to bottom two after plugging everything ib
Nice work. I saw the cable spools in your van what type of work do you do? Also, do you have a switch for the lights or is it just strictly when the doors open that they come on?
Strictly when the doors open. They operate exactly the way the removed lights operated as they are wired to the same power source.
Where are you located
Thx
Looks badass
Now, how long does the battery last at 24W power usage?
these lights are rubbish i had them before
Nice! Thanks for this!
How to burn your van: add more load to existing wires.
no really much of a load really
Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it very much 👍🏼
Jag Masters Thank you.
Did the heat melt away the adhesive?
Sorry for the late reply. I added gorilla glue hot glue to some areas. Haven't had any issues with the adhesive since adding the hot glue. Thanks for your comment.
thanks now the theifs that steal my tools can see what they are doing
Lol
Hahaha.
Lol
12:50 dog being raped
Thx now the kids in the back of my van can have fun😁
Thanks for sharing, much appreciated! Well done and thanks to your wifey-cameragirl as well !! :))

BigRalph9864 😂😂 Never noticed. Squeaky Door.
@@robertreyes4269 thanks for the vid. I am about to tackle this project as we speak!!!
You’re welcome. Good luck. 👍🏼
Lol
Thanks
Can u do this with color changing leds
No. The color changing ones need power from an outlet.
Even tho u can cut it and Connect it to your battery?
Or that’s to much? And will burn it
I’m sure you could make it work but it may be a little too much for the battery. It would drain it pretty quick.
Can I skip the meter part? How likely is it that the light isnt getting 12V?
0% chance it's not 12v
And polarity doesn't matter with lights.
how long did the adhesive last on those strips? did they fall of yet?
They didn’t last long. I had to add hot glue.
@@robertreyes4269 will double side tape work
That’s what I’m worried about. I don’t have a clean surface since it’s a foam headliner. And hot glue would melt and would just fall. Any suggestions on a regular headliner
Hi I wired the same led lights but wont I shut my doors the leds just go dim and not turn off . Any ideas?
Bro, you have to grease that squeaky door of yours loll
what happens if you have the engine running (which bumps the circuit voltage up upto 14.4 V) and open the doors (i.e. turn the lighting on) ??? Do the led strips get toasted or do they take it no problem?
Sander Tel I’ve had these installed for over a year now. I have had no issues. I often leave the van’s engine running while having the back doors open for light. I often work in dark parking garages and needed these lights.
@@robertreyes4269 Thank you Robert, I will give it a go in my campervan... regards, Sander
No offence but i cant be arsed watching a 30min video. Did you basically just wire the red and black wires to the exsisting system of the van? I have LED lights and they all have plugs on the end its pissing me off. I just want to wire them to my van lol thanks
Yeah basically. You may have to cut those connectors off and solder some 18/2 cable to the ends. That's what I did.
@@robertreyes4269 thanks man. I tired this with led spotlights and they worked but just not bright enough because they needed more power. Hope it works with light strips lol thanks
Not much of a craftsman but got it done
paul gaddey exactly. I'm in no way a professional or a electrician. I just made it work for me.
man ure so rough with everything lol.
BikeStuff 😂
Very good stuff 👍.
Bought some led lights amd it only does flickering
toss em around. there's gotta be an easier way.
Thanks for the vid, Robert. I noticed the original light is behind the stuff I have stacked on my racks, so it is pretty ineffective. I look forward to tackling this soon!
sounds like a black dude
😂😂 Your saying I sound like a black dude??
Robert Reyes yes. lol
You do. But also great video. Massively helpful. Thanks so much for posting this
I thought it was morgan freeman when i first started watching. Very suprised to see a white guy
Manny Ribera I’m actually mixed Mexican/White. Mom’s white and my dad’s Mexican.
How do I stop the timer from shutting the lights off after a few minutes?
I've had that same issue. I always end up having to close the door and reopen it.
@@robertreyes4269 I'm running a carpet cleaning truck so having my hoses out I can't just shut them. I ended up running LEDs with a switch
Yeah it does get annoying. I'm glad you were able to make it work for you.
