Some vids on fixing and bodging things for the sake of sharing knowledge (or assumptions), with no guaruntee of success.
This is an unsponsored, straight talking channel, with no lame reviews or unboxing rubbish.
The content is created with no research, is shot on whatever phone or tablet that happens to by handy at the time. I don't own a tripod so no time is wasted showing intracate operations of removing screws etc. If you want to learn how to solder something, there are lots of great videos that will teach you.
Content is based upon life experience of the subjects covered and there will either be better ways of doing things, or I may simply be wrong. All comments welcome :)

Charge 18v Makita batteries from 12 v source - Makita DC18SE
Going to give this a go. That short side stand gives me panic attacks every time I stop on a weird angle 😂 What are the specs of the bolt please? Thanks for posting 👊
reason you wont get much charge from that panel is because the roof rack rails are casting a shadow over part of it which drastically cuts down its efficiency
I've got two of these. They are both the 14 v version.Borh failed in the same 2 ways . The boards go on them. After a bit of deliberation. I just junked the board .battery to fuse to switch to motor. Simple. Both carried on working indefinitely but please realise you do this at your own risk. Also, the switches went on each I believe one went before the mod, one after so I don't necessarily blame any change in current through switch .The first one, I bought a switch. The second...I just drilled out the ali Rivet on the side of the switch and cleaned the slightly burnt contacts with a dremel. Simples
PS .I run them both on an 18v battery now and they've worked fine .Again your own risk
Different duties what is it called as I can’t find info on that? Also where did you purchase your unistrut?
Ther at lowes or home depot
This is a explanation I think I can follow. Just bought an old Transit and the sliding door doesn't open from the inside. There's already a replacement cable it just hadn't been fitted and I had no idea where to start!
it's only 800 psi equivalent. very weak pressure.. 40v model is reasonably okay 1600psi but the price..
Why did you install the unistrut upside down?
I have built in a 150W brushless Turbine which fits in without any modifications, bought for 5 bugs only. Its more powerfull and way less noisy.
I had a roof rack with just one hole that started whistling at a certain speed,so I had to tape it over. I imagine yours must sound like a church organ when getting to speed? Anyway I like your construction!
I’ve had a few sets of roofbars like that! Because strut is open channel as opposed to a tube, there’s no whistling 👍 …Just wish the chunky tyres were a little quieter!
Only Scottish people are gonna appreciate the comment of “you don’t want the cable fucking off out of here” 😂😂😂
you can get hepa filter for it for around 15quid, its called Makita 199989-8
Super! thinking of making a unistrut roof rack too. What size did you use (width + height)? sorry got my answer, 41x21 and 41x41 can't find 41x21 here in the netherlands
I'm going to build one but I'm going to build it using my roof bars as the fixing point down the side I just need to figure out the correct fixing but all I can think of is some angle and then fix the unistrut to that I have a 28 nearly 29 kg single solar panel to go on its about 1.2 wide and nearly 2.4m long just fits inside the bars on width and length I'm going to be a shed boffin for a week or 2
Good video. I have a Transit Custom same problem can't open from the inside or outside...door is deadlocked. Will this work?
I’m sure it will 👍
The kontakts on the charger have to be kleaned. I had issues with mine as well after a few chargers……. also have to push the battery all the way on and hold it. I have issues with both my Makita and After Market Batteries. I have a bad charger and it does the same thing, it makes the battery look like it’s the problem when it’s the charger. Try a new charger and see if that fixes the issue.
That's a good solution. After sometime the charger good be the problem. Mostly if all the batteries give problems.
Mine is doing the same thing
will it prime if you run it without the end of the lance fitted? I.e. running on low pressure output. If so you could then pop the end of the lance on and you're ready to go.
It didn’t. It’s just a poorly designed and expensive product. Don’t have it any more and bought a small petrol one for not much more.
Got one myself ….. 👎🏼
Desperation is the English way

On occasions i will have trouble with Waitley, but overall I find them to be a good value.
This is really nice , you got something special here, exactly what I was looking for . Would it be possible to monitor a 48v battery pack with 48v hybrid charger inverter with a arduino and this set up? Greetings
@thomasvanlanen6279 You would be able to. Some kind of voltage divider
I'm not sure if you still have this Makita unit but I got one last week, after this video and your previous one I was determined to avoid priming issues. As such I've 3D printed a replacement cap for the bottom outlet of the tank to accept a normal Hozelock Aquastop connector and remove the need to use the suction tube. The water is now being gravity fed, so I've had no problems getting it to prime and no chance of air entering the system until the tank is below the level of that outlet. Much easier to set up and it's recessed enough that it doesn't hit the ground if you lift the tank up to wheel it around. If this sounds useful I'm sure I can print an extra adapter to send you. At the moment mine does drip slightly as the Aquastop connector is designed to seal with mains pressure, but I'm trying different O-rings and I personally don't mind losing a few drips for the better performance
@MattTester That’s very kind of you, but I got rid of the unit after that job. So you’ve solved it? Shame that Makita couldn’t have designed or even tested it properly in the first place! Nice work.
damn you wont stop fucking moving. cant even read the specs. ffs. L
Ì
Nice , thanks for sharing 👍
What battery do you now use on the norse unit?
Have you tried double pressing the trigger to put it into boost mode for more power?
Great idea
You don't really need to get another fuel pump. If you mount your pump be suspending it so it doesn't touch the side of the housing and wrap it with insulation, you won't hear it with the unit running. And don't use that cheap green fuel line. That stuff is for an air pump in your aquarium is all and not good for a diesel heater. Get some better line.
I have a horrible feeling this is why mine refuses to start and throws an E-08. Got plenty voltage, new gauze, pipe into burn chamber not blocked, glow plug works, list goes on. Stripped it down five times - same problem. Its the one thing I never checked!
Yea RIP someone off over a drill bit because your an idiot
Have you had any issues with exhaust leaking back into the van with that setup?
@samdortener8416 None at all. The exhaust takes a 90deg turn once it gets outside and the end of the exhaust just pokes outside from underneath. And the carbon monoxide alarm has never registered.
woeful camera work but good info
How much concrete can you really cut on one charge with that saw
@Sproutt. Yeh not much. It’s like a cordless SDS. You wouldn’t bring one to a job where you were planning on drilling loads of deep holes through hard stone. It’s handy if you know you have to only do a little or you think there’s a possibility. Throwing it in the van without having to worry about petrol, oil, refilling onsite can be quite handy as it’s small, light and just add batteries. The battery ones are pretty wimpy. I’ve also used the Dewalt. It’s about the same as the Makita. Batteries cannot replace the energy produced by hydrocarbons, so in my view, battery saws are for specific use cases as opposed to a petrol replacement. I’ve also found that the battery saws are useless at cutting steel. There’s just not enough power in them to cut steel with the thicker discs. Whereas this isn’t a problem for the petrol ones as they have the power and capacity to eat through steel. I’ve found even a 4” grinder with a 1mm disc far more effective at cutting even small bits of steel than the battery disc saws. I have a petrol saw for planned and larger jobs and if there’s a delay risk associated with a petrol saw breaking down, which they often do, I’ll hire one locally and just use my petrol one as the backup.
Further to this video, and from further use, these four green labeled 6ah Waitley batteries that their performance is very poor in comparison to the older Waitley 6ah batteries that I’ve had for around 3 years. These are still going strong.
I can confirm from recently trying out four of the green labeled 6ah Waitley batteries that their performance is very poor in comparison to the older Waitley 6ah batteries that I’ve had for around 3 years. These are still going strong.
Try measuring it with A Fluke 43B (or newer) power analyser that will show how "clean" the outgoing signal is
Yes, I’d love one, but can’t justify the cost. I did buy a Schneider PQ analyser panel off flea bay and was going to make up my own box, then it got put down the priority list! The inverter suffered a coffee event recently, so will be sold as spares repairs. It didn’t play nice with certain switched mode PSUs, and since the adoption of the Makita coffee maker, a large output is no longer required. So will be swapping it out for a small Victron, purely to run a laptop and various chargers.
I applaud the concept, but you are asking for a meltdown. That little fan in the diesel heater requires very little back pressure to evacuate the heat. Adding back pressure will indeed overheat the unit and may very well cause a catastrophic malfunction and hopefully just a melted ecu board and not a fire. Maybe dont smash the heel all the way down, and ideally drill anbunch of holes in the pipe to prevent excessive back pressure. In fact i may just make one myself as im always wet.
You’re right about overheating and an important consideration for anyone doing this. In my van, the glove warmer is fed from only one side of the splitter following the heater output, so no back pressure. Two years running without any issues. What would be really useful would be for someone to upload a design to thingverse for an interface plug that allows people to plug a pipe into a standard 75mm outlet vent. This would allow all sorts of ‘passive drying’ devices to be made by people that can simply be plugged in to the existing installation and removed when not in use. A design being available on thingverse means that anyone can have the heater outlet interface plug 3d printed by themselves or other offering the service, anywhere in the world. I’d like to make a plug in boot drier for inside the van.
Perfectly explained, Nice one fella
same problem here,
Thank you!
Have you noticed that half the voltage is on the neutral - my Mrs got a belt from this !!!
They're one way bearings, I've always found these somewhat magical
Thank you very much for this video. I have two green labelled waitley dewalt batteries which work very well for me, and are just as have as the regular dewalt 5 ah batteries. I wanted to know if i should buy this makita battery for an older drill (i was going to buy an adapter to fit the waitley battery on the old drill) and you have been very helpful in showing me i should not buy these.
Great video! After reading all the comments I’m still none the wiser of which battery of mine is which, could you explain or if you have time do a video of how you tested it. I’m in the process of fitting a diesel heater but I have only just realised my van doesn’t have a leisure battery or split charged so I’m guessing I will have to fit one of those first Thanks Garry
@Thegarryveitch Simply disconnect both batteries and using a multimeter, one by one test continuity between the positive lead and ground with the ignition switch on and off.
Can you write your long term experience with this heating system ?
Sure. I’ve used it for three winters now and as I work and play outdoors, it’s been great. I’ve also made up a couple for friends that plug into the cigarette lighter socket. I find that if I run the engine for 5 mins or so before moving off and turn the floor heater on, I put my feet flat on the floor it quickly warms my feet. It’s limited use when driving as it’s only my heels that contact the floor. None the less, you do get heating effect too on feet and lower legs. Works best with a thin mat over the top. I’ve left it on a couple of times and it’s drained the battery, although not an issue for starting as it’s an auxiliary, it damaged it. So I’d put a timer circuit to control the relay, say for 20mins after switching on with a momentary switch to an Arduino or something similar. Other than that, there’s nothing to fail and will install again in future vans. Hope this helps.
I've got a m18 9ah waitley battery, had the same charging error, opened it up and some of the spot welds holding the nickel tabs to the cells had vibrated loose. Not the preferred way to fix because of the heat input, but I fluxed and soldered the tabs back down, All is good once again. :)
Hi.i bought some de Walt 18v 4ah batterys what a load of rubbish took about 6 weeks to arrive from I guess china wish they had never arrived.just recycled them in a skip Roger.
