My name is Jimbo and I am the owner of a small online collectibles store called Three Lions TCG!
I made this UA-cam channel to show my passion for the TCG hobby! Personally, I enjoy collecting a little bit of everything! Great video, there's not many detailed videos about historic sets like this. Do you have any idea what the print numbers for 1st edition cards were or the length of time 1st edition was printed for? I have been trying to find this info but no success yet
Its hard to say really. I've seen a lot of different predictions comparing the data from mtg to the base set in order to get a semi accurate idea of how many WOTC printed. But most of the time this data refers to the base set as a whole and doesn't distinguish between the different printings. In terms of 1st ed its been estimated to have about 10k - 100k 1st ed holos. Personally I lean toward around 10k 1st edition cards because 100k just seems like a lot. As for length of time, I personally lean towards it being no more than a month. However, I have heard rumors that WOTC mentioned 1st edition runs are only printed for 3 days. This probably isn't true for the base set but is most likely the case for the other WOTC era Pokémon sets.
Very interesting talk about this new platform. Do you think its semi comparable with whatnot? i know you can sometimes snag good deals over there from some reputable sellers.
I've personally never used whatnot so it'd be difficult for me to say. I do know that whatnot utilizes more live stream bidding/box breaks similar to TikTok live. However, I do know whatnot has had some of the more notorious scammers in the community go live and sell there. Obviously that's a minority of users on whatnot but I personally always saw that platform feed into the gambling side of cards vs buying the singles you want for your collection.
Never used Mercari for anything before, but I might now. Really appreciate all the research and information you put into your review especially comparing it to more mainstream buying and selling sites. Looking forward to the next video!

As someone who used to play a lot back when base set and even the same for yugioh and magic much later on. I am heavily considering starting to collect cards and you are a huge influence in that. I must thank you this was very eye opening. I believe base sets a bit out of my price range lol but taking what you have said into consideration as i begin to start my own collection.
