why did you skip the comfort outfits that she wears when she is cooking with him at the mountains? its the moment that she is mostly in love and offers a contrast with the upper class style that she usually wears
A good question. I initially included that scene and took out. Including that cooking scene felt like having two visual climax. And thematically, I felt that Tilda’s dress-transformation from the black funeral to the casual attire following her confession of love was more important than the cooking scene. Of course you may disagree with me, and i think the beauty of Il sono larmore is exactly that.

What carries through Melvilles work, is you dont need to know the language. He could make a silent movie and tell a story.

Melville. I still have a boxset of his films, from the days when I liked 40s and noir films. The colour in his films: they were colour, yet they were black & white. Style over substance, perhaps. Yet they could seem to tell a lot. An epic novel implied by a silent glance. Only clip I didn't recognise here was at 1.34. I guess it must have been Le Flic. I think I only saw it once. Hard to think of any successful effort to recapture 40s noir vibe in later film, except maybe Melville's frozen-in time films and Polanski's Chinatown and they go back to the late sixties and early seventies. 40s and 70s: surely the best decades for crime films. Walter Matthau wanted to do crime films. The one time he did, it worked very well: Charley Varrick. 1973. Same director as Dirty Harry. But a whole lot better, in my opinion. End of diversion. Historic vibes.
