Nice car. I admit I'm totally ignorant about the '68 Mercedes Benz 280SE, My interest that landed me on your posting was that I wanted to see more closely the exterior and interior details of this model car. The reason for my interest stems from the old Columbo TV show (first aired in the fall of 1971). In two of the first season episodes (Murder by the Book, and Blueprint For Murder), a silver-gray convertible 1968 (as I read about the model year, although it may be incorrect) Mercedes Benz 280SE was used. Both characters were financially well to do, and I was impressed by the upscale cars they drove. One of the episodes (Murder by the Book) is posted here on UA-cam. I was doing some cursory comparisons between the car used in the TV show episode and your fine car. I noticed the car in the episode had amber parking lights and fender side marker lights, and head rests -- where your care didn't have the amber parking lights (or fog lights, not sure what they were used for) and that your side marker lights were incorporated into the headlight assembly (front) and the read tail light assembly, and that your car doesn't have the head rests. I also noticed in the TV episode the passenger side had a pull handle (for assisting the passenger getting in and out of the car). I don't see that handle on your car, so was the handle integral with the convertible top frame? Lastly, is the convertible top manually operated, and did it have a boot to cover it? Looking at the chrome/stainless steel trim around the convertible top well, it appears it might have snap attachments to secure a boot. Check your start fuel valves and relays, the engine should start much, much better. The valves are mounted to the end of the intake manifold.

Der 280er ist als 4 Gang Schalter am besten..... der Allrad läßt sich durch drücken der Kupplung besser zuschalten. Dagegen wil die Automatik immer "N". Aber dass wissen halt nur diejenigen, die auch wissen was nen 280ger kann. haha..
