Time with me enjoying the woods and all the hobbies I enjoy in them. I am a Traditional Archer and hunt with my longbow. A lot of the time I spend enjoying the woods is also me scouting and thinking about next season. Fishing and camping are also hobbies I will share and enjoy. I will speak to what traditional archery is to me and the evolution of my skills and philosophies about shooting the stick and string. I do also plan to speak about how I have had some mental health issues and the roll my time in the woods has helped me out tremendously. All this and I am sure much more as time goes on. Now, TO THE WOODS!

A long and horrible explanation of how I find my gaps and use a gap shooting system on the 3D course. I am no master or world champ, I have done this video to help friends and new archers locally who have asked for an explanation of what it is I do. Here it is. To The Woods!!!

Thanks for your support and for choosing the VPA Omega to be in your quiver! Congratulations!
Congrats. Great video. Maybe one day I'll get in the woods for a bear.
Great Video buddy! Agree 💯
Thanks
Great explanation, thanks!
Just found your channel and subscribed. Looking forward to the content
I haven’t been as active on UA-cam as I could be. Need to get my act together. Welcome.
I had Perry as a Guest on My fishing show called "Sportfishing Atlantic" back in 1995. We fished the Cornwallis River for Browns. Wow he's still going. That day he said to me "I'm going to show you a technique that you cant show on tv" I was like whatever bud ,.. well I ate crow; because that day he caught about 4 times times as many browns as I did lol. What a great guy with a wealth of knowledge.
Perfect explanation, cheers mate.
thank you

I'm convinced..... thank you. eBay in Seclusion 3D camo on the cheap!! :)
OLD Leather Smith here, very nice, beginners should be able 2 follow. Suggestions and info. It's called a BEVELER, if you want 2 have the leather soak up the water faster and more completely add a few drops of liquid dish soap 2 the water, also your tools will work easier, try it you will be surprised. When you want 2 not have the leather 2 spread out cover the back of your project with tape. Any other questions please feel free 2 ask. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
I'm brand new to the craft, and the dish soap and taping tips were great. Thanks so much, and God bless!
Good review. Thank you
The place is super ! Bait for the bear.I think the season will be successful . Thank you for the informative video ,Travis ...
Great video! To the woods brother!
Love it! Thanks guys! Best of luck this season!
First time i have seen this Video, enjoyed it very much,. It brought back a few memories from chiqnecto . I started hunting there in 1981, some of the best Bowhunting of my life. still think of the place and the bowhunters I was there with. some still go there in the fall but it is different then it was back at that time, But it is still hunting there which is great.
Thank you Philip! I’m hoping to continue to add more content from locals about locals. It’s just a way for me to get through the cold winters. Which do seem to be getting shorter! 🤣
Maybe this a dumb question but how does the aiming and fixed crawl change if you are in an elevated position (such as a tree stand)?
I don’t hunt very high off the ground, 12’ max. And I don’t shoot out past 20m. So for me, it really doesn’t change much about how I aim. If you were hunting higher and shooting farther out, there might be considerations but I haven’t tested it myself, because those aren’t shots I’m taking. Wish I could be more help.
@@travismcleod 20m is a reasonable assumption I think for most but I've seen some crazy high treestands. Made me curious as you'd think the angle would change things up.
@@bitbyterjr there are some great UA-cam videos from field archers that shoot some crazy angles at yardage. They speak to the considerations better than I can. Again, with how I set up, I hit very close to the same spot. I do however take my yardages from the base of the tree out to target.
@@travismcleod any links you'd suggest?
I know it's been 1 year but you should look on Amazon for blaze orange gear lol 😆 thank me later
I've owned my for around three years now and I do alot of coyote hunting with it. For my area (sandhills of nebraska) the camo works very well. I like the 3/4 zip because it allows me to run my glass pack inside it and still access my binos and range finder easily. Great review!
I love this video! It’s exactly what I’ve been wanting to learn! Super informative thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful.
Lots of people online saying its loud, is this true?
How is it in the rain and snow?
I like it great in the snow. Admittedly I haven’t had it in a hard rain. Light rain it was very good.
@@travismcleod I was looking at them the other day at Bass Pro, about to be stationed in Alaska and figured it might be time for better hunting clothes then what i have now
@@BKNG13 here in Nova Scotia we are humid mild winters for the most part. And I haven’t been cold in it. Actually it was too warm to bunny hunt in it.
@@travismcleod thats awesome and a pretty good selling point for me! I mostly waterfowl hunt so i live in waders but I figured i want to try caribou
@@BKNG13 sounds like a great adventure!
Kewl explanation. What’s your total hunting arrow weight including insert and point?
480gn
Wicked!
show us
Sorry Peter. What would you like me to show you?
If your point on is at 20m and you aim 7" low at 20 you will hit 7" low. If you aim dead on it should be a dead deer from 16m or 17m to 23m to 24m any deer outside that range then you would need to change point of aim. Darren
I agree with you. Did I misspeak in the video?
@Travis McLeod It did sound like that I knew you would know that just wanted to point it out for other viewers Thanks for vidio. Darren
@@darrenbowers3267 cheers!
I have one, extra large I'm 6ft, 220, fits perfect large enough to put up wool sweater under best piece of hunting clothing I've ever had windproof
Great review. Thinking about purchasing one. How's the fabric? Is it flexible or stretch at all? Is it breathable? Would this be more of a treestand jacket than a hiking jacket? Thanks!
I find it too warm for bunny hunting. More of a tree stand jacket for me. I bought mine a little big to layer so I haven’t noticed any mobility issues. But it’s very quiet.
I purchased that same jacket from Cabelas 6 years ago. Absolutely outstanding garment,I’ve hunted with that jacket for years and it has kept me warm all day even in subzero temperatures. I use a layering system when its really cold. I wear a thin poly thermal, then a light polar fleece pull over and a very light pack able down jacket if the temperatures are really bad. That allows me to remove and store a layer away if things warm up since those inner layers are very light and thin. The point regarding the amount of wool doesn’t bother me and at this point I wouldn’t change anything about the garment except maybe the hole through the hood (good point). I would definitely purchase another one .
Yep I admit, I am pleased with it.
Thanks , great info
Nice review. I bought one a few months ago. (Northern Vermont) Works flawlessly every time.
It’s a new favourite tool. Have a great season!
check out the Thunderhead suit by Sitka if you want goretex rain gear that is also quiet
Thank you for the suggestion. I will do exactly that. Cheers
You bringing back the treestand content hunts this season?
I had planned on doing more of a seasons end type video. With content from the whole season. But I’m up for requests. Lol
Was this an outfitter ?
We rented Wilson Timmons camp but it was a self hunt.
@@travismcleod just curious if I ever get a tag. I know it’s a total group effort hunting, planing, and financially. Some day hopefully looks like an amazing journey.
Ya there are certainly different ways to play season 5. Always available to give you my two cents if you have questions.
what kind of boots you guys wear for this hunt trip? Been to zone 5 several times (hiking, etc) plus 2 moose hunts - hiking boots are great til they get wet. Have carried neoprenes up to top then switched out of the hikers - looking for the silver bullet of boots, lol.
I wore these www.lowa.ca/en/product/tibet-gtx/ with a knee high seal skinz waterproof sock all week. I would easily wear this set again. I was very comfortable.
I wore Schnee's beartooth's with just my wool socks under and had dry feet all week. Highly recommend!
Why left handed this time?
I had a fall and broke my left humerus in 2018. As a result I was unable to shoot right handed with hunting weight. So I learned how to shoot left handed.
How did you shoot yesterday at frozen fingers? i ended up 2nd in Hunter division.
I shot my best to rounds since having to switch to left handed and I think I placed 3rd in the instinctive class. I was very pleased. Congratulations on your 2nd place.
@@travismcleod Awesome. Yesterday was my personal best round as well. 189! Thanks and congrats to you as well !

Thank you for some interesting topics to think about and for sharing your conversation with us. It is refreshing to listen to two people share ideas about topics I hold dear to my heart. It can be difficult to get some hunters to share their stories, experiences, opinions and knowledge in a format like this. In many ways this is a 'forced' format but it is also a necessary platform. But as mentioned during your conversation that if you could get these hunters around a campfire with a refreshment so much could be learned: the stories would be entertaining and invaluable! My wife laughs when she sees a truck drive into out=r yard during hunting season. She notes that once an arm is thrown over the the tailgate or truck bedside....well....it's gonna be story time!! HUmmm...maybe a new format is in this idea....."Hunters, Halftons and Tale-gates"
I am hopeful that perhaps later on after Covid that maybe a few conversations can be recorded around the fire or out of the back of a half ton. But for the moment, this is what I got and I’m happy and honoured to have some great people share with me through this less natural format. Cheers
Great start to the day...fresh cranberry loaf, hot coffee and a bear conversation featuring Roger Lewis....bring on part 2...
Informative video, thanks👍🏼 How cold was it when you were sitting and what were the wind speeds looking like??
This year was much more mild than usual. It didn’t drop much below -13C at its coldest but winds blew pretty good a few days over 20-30km/hr. If it gets windier than than I general climb down out of my hang on. Hope that helps.
@@travismcleod Thanks. Just wanted to know what the conditions were that you were using it in. Will most likely buy it so thanks for the information it was definitely helpful👍🏼👍🏼
