What is RAMEN4ROBOTS?
R4R is an upcoming VR game heavily inspired by Jet Set Radio, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Real life rollerblading, Sonic The Hedgehog and Parkour with the goal of bringing all of that to VR! All I could think of is how awesome it would be to experience those things in VR. In this DevLog series I will take you along in our journey to make that dream a reality.     weird idea i was thinking about so basically it's a sling shot move, it's a way to preserve momentum while turning by placing it, running into it, and turning around to aim it based on either where your head or hands are pointed (head is probably the best option), but after a few seconds (maybe 2 or 3) you immediately get sent at whatever speed you went at going into the sling shot, might need to limit the range of turning you can do with it so it's not too overpowered, but might also need a way to do the placing part of it easier, and maybe turning around automatically no idea what made me think of this lol

      Interesting idea! I have been thinking a bit more about flow in movement and might experiment a bit more later down the line.

      Right now it's just on PCVR. But a port is pretty high on the list. And yeah recording is totally fine!

    Looks sick! Something I see in this is how often your character completely stops moving, I think this might ruin the feel of going fast and maybe affect momentum? I know it'll probably change in future updates, it's just something I noticed

      For sure! Level design will eventually be on the level of BRC with good flow and lines so you never really need to stop if you are good enough. Definitely something I am keeping a close eye on when I start making some actual level design haha.

    As this is something I struggle a lot with, I'm curious what is your process for creating the art style and assets? Also, what program do you edit videos in?

      Hi! For editing I use DaVinci Resolve. And about the art style and the assets I want to make a full video sometime. It was a whole lot of experimentation finding something that looked unique and was relatively quick and easy to make due to being a solo dev. I also had no prior experience making art at all haha. In terms of programs I use BlockBench, Blender and ProBuilder. Textures are either custom made or from free texture libraries and then heavily edited.

    I can relate to a lot of the feelings you desccribed! Back when I was active on youtube, ediitng and uploading videos, I had similar thoughs constantly. Sad to say, I never found a proper balance and eventually burnt myself out. It's good to see that you are aware of the potential dangers and obstacles which may hinder your creative thinking and development, and can therefore more easily handle whatever situation may present itself. Keep up the good work and enjoy yourself as much as possible! Also your studio looks better and better everytime you show it off!

      Yeah UA-cam is definitely very similar in that regard. It's such a delicate balance to find as creativity is very tightly linked to emotions and that takes so much self awareness to improve even slightly over time. Yeah the Studio is starting to look 🔥. Definitely gotta get some plants in here soon though. Maybe some bamboo 🤔

    crazy coming back here after your most recent devlog (about the yoyo) and seeing how far both you and this game have come! can't wait to see the finished product, and i'm glad that you're so open about your development process! as a person who wants to get into game design, it's super useful to see what kind of tools and processes you use.

      Thanks! Yeah it's kinda crazy looking back how much the production value and the game have increased. Feels like a real channel now haha. It's great to hear that I can help others with these videos. Next video will be about another important aspect of development a lot of people struggle with, the mental side of things.     ok, thats cool and all... but... I don't think thats a yoyo, I think thats a weirdly shaped ball that stops in the air somehow and has a weird pulling force.

    Heya! I have an idea for the Yo-Yo. You could keep it's mechanics but make it so it can't give you additional height and instead have it just act as a vertical booster sorta deal for when you are on the ground. It wouldn't achieve "air dash" but it is a fun idea to use the Yo-Yo for. Would be hilarious to do the "Walk The Dog" to get a speed boost. lol although, I will say, you could do a roof top free running game with that Yo-Yo mechanic that'd be prettttyyy kewllll.     I find it surprising to hear that you implemented the Yoyo/airdash mechanic, only to then remove it because it did not fit your intented movement design. If you did not anticipate this, does that mean the overal feel of the game's movement is undecided still?

      Yeah I am still very much in the experimental phase. Especially in terms of how much air movement I want on both a horizontal and vertical axis. At first I wanted it to be more parkour and real life like but right now I want to experiment a bit more with Sonic esq movement. So a bit faster, momentum heavy but not necessarily very air based.
