@@A.I8I.M In Canada we train lifeguards to use a lifesaving kick. This is either whip kick (breaststroke legs), scissor or eggbeater. These are more powerful than flutter (freestyle) kicks. It may be harder to learn a lifesaving kick initially, but it is stronger once mastered.

No, this was a few months ago.

I don’t like that the TV isn’t wall mounted across from the bed. Last cruise we had a room with the promenade view, and thought it was just because it was an interior room.

@@LucyWheaton We usually get interior rooms, and the TV is never mounted on the wall; it's always on an arm connected to the built in shelving.

Thanks for your comment. We have a few other videos commenting on the Houston entrapment of Aliyah. We'll also circle back when more facts are released. Entrapment is rare if basic precautions like VGBA compliant drain & suction outlet covers are installed so there are no open pipes in the pool.

Thanks for sharing. 100% agree with you. Also had a conversation recently with someone who said "Massages are too expensive," but said while having both finger & toe nails done professionally for probably the same amount of money.

@LakeviewAquaticConsultantsLtd So true! It’s often funny how one thing is "too expensive," but something equally frivolous spending wise is somehow acceptable. The justification we make for wants/needs is an interesting conversation for sure.

Some commercial aquatic facilities are very strict and do not allow their lifeguards to choose between standing or sitting; there is a fixed zone with a specific aide at all times. The thinking is it creates a consistent procedure for all staff, but it doesn't take into consideration facility usage, glare, and the guard's individual preferences or competencies based on something as simple as height. It's not necessarily the best way to operate, but some do this. I also spoke to a facility operator recently who did a proposal to install a drowning technology system where one of the guard positions would be in an off-deck office, watching the underwater security footage (similar to security/loss prevention in a retail store), but it didn't fly when it comes to budgetary approval.

My son's inlaws had been in that exact hot tub a day earlier, while he and his girlfriend avoided it to do something else. My son felt bad the whole day today.

Tubes are not generally used by lifeguards in Canada. I have seen them used at a few pools, but they're not taught in the lifeguard course.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Many European countries require all swimmers to wear bathing caps because of the concern for hair entrapment/entanglement. There is also a video discussing the hotel's inspection reports going up later this week.

For the original construction of the building, yes, via FOIA request (if they have been digitized). Subsequent pool renovations that were done properly may have only been approved via email to the public health inspecter (PHI). That's the process here in Alberta: plans are not filed with the municipality/county, just the province via PHI who retains copies but doesn't file them anywhere searchable. You can make a FOIP request in Canada, but that would take time. Who knows what was done when it comes to any illegal renovations without permitting.
