EXCELENT VIDEO Just finished making this VSS Speed Sensor Repair on my 2001 Harley Softail Standard. Was an easy fix thanks to this instruction. Fixed the problem. No speedo, no trip meter, no turn signal cancel, but had power and codes, Oh and no code was in the box. Video showed easy access to the part and gave all the bolt sizes, etc. The part was 78 dollars at the local dealership, it was in stock. No labor cost because I was able to do it. Why reinvent the wheel. Thanks you really helped !

ive got a 2014 roadking that a rat chewed threw that whole wiring harness. . i dont have those two screws on the splash guard though, they might be underneath but it was 25° and somehow raining I only got as far as pulling the stater ,finding about a 1/8 inch of wire out of the plug i soldered the wires back together ,it got rid of the codes but unfortunately not the symptoms. I ordered the harness but wont get it for awhile. thanks for the video bro.

So everything on my speedometer works but my speed and it is buried and hops around a little but won't go into the mph. 2015 Iron 883 and speedo relocation kit. I bought it like that and everything is working great but that. Digital and standard.

Should rename the video... "How to remove the splash guard" So what are the symptoms of this bad sensor? My speedometer needle stopped its "windup" when I turn on the ignition switch. Could that be a bad speedometer or is it a bad VSS sensor? I've owned a HD for two months... this is my third problem already. Not confidence inspiring.

Where does the Speedo monitor in the dash of a 2001 electrogilded classic , where is it powered from! the mastics shows' everything but where it is powered 12v ??!! It leaves the Speedo sensor red nut into the odorometer it is black, but no dot or indicator of a break ! is the power transferred to 12v inside the odometer housing>??

My 2003 fatboy runs fine but the speedometer stop working checked the sensor nice and clean u think it might be a bad sensor or maybe something else thanks

got this bike - bought it brand new - love the bike, have a stage 1 with VH pipes. Runs great. Only concern I have is with our Twin Cam 88 the Cam Tensioners have been known to rub after time causing shards of metal in the engine and ultimately blow up the engine...going to have my dealer look at mine on next service.

Nice bike I have the same one, bought it brand new. My speedometer crashed next thing you know the engine is cutting out at lower speeds or idle. Just bought the VSS - thanks for the video - will try installing today. - your bike looks like it is still original in almost every way except the pipes. Wonder if you can access that area by taking out the battery instead of splash guard?

my o3' fxdx Speedo just went from stop peg too full speed ped at turn of in key. with needle just staying on peg. what too do? only I put another Speedo in bike an new Speedo worked?

Lost my speedo today. That's why I'm here.

I lost my speed o & odometer today it was over 100 deg. Running against 30mph head wind. I dont have any thing coming on in the speed o. I have no turn signal & no horn. It also not idelting right & want to die. Is this all symptoms? I ave an 03 RK

I cut it at the sensor to pull it through, didn't want to cut the wrong one! LoL easy fix little problem unclipping it until I removed the sensor first. Just got home from a test run, back to good! After 5 years of I'll get to it! Lol

Damn, Cook's exploded! Back in 82-83 there was a small pen of bucking bulls just down the road from Cook's. One afternoon after twisting some toros me and a few of my buddies got to thinking about cold beer so we stopped in. The folks there were gracious welcomed us and made us feel at home. My speedometer and odometer are on the same digital gage. Both speedometer and odometer stopped working so my mileage didn't increase, check engine light comes on, and when I down shifted to gear 1 the bike turned off. Does that sound about right? I have a 2014 street bob btw.

I have a 2005 Road King Custom. The speedometer stopped working a few weeks back (stays at 0, at a random speed or goes all the way around). I replaced the sensor but I am still having the same issue. Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem?

My 2001 softail is doing many of these, spedo works then won't work, blinkers are not canceling, check engine light too, but I was advised to try cleaning the old one before replacing it...
