After the first hair pin hug the rock wall to the next hair pin. Car drivers think it is a one way road at times.
Just moved to this area. Road this for the first time the other day and found it very challenging. This guy makes it look too easy.
Recommend riding the road a few times to get an idea of the speed you can take the corners. Also the road isnt as nice as it was 10 years ago, rode it last year again and more cracks appearing in the tar, especially those mid corner make it a bit dodgy. The ride up the pass -> fitzroy falls , into kangaroo valley and cambewarra mountain are also great. Lots of twisty nice roads without too much straight boring stuff, used to love the ride from Nowra to Wollongong via that route :D Weekdays always the best
Bro I just took my ninja 400 down jambaroo my road and kiama pass today and almost died this is fucking balls
i've been checking just recently out of curiosity a few bike "clean" runs of the Pass in youtube, as it's a public road with traffic always going both ways, it is dangerous going up quickly...nonetheless if you know the road well and the conditions are dry and you get a clean run, you can get up there pretty quick...i'm somewhat a local...wouldn't say i'm a racer or a revhead...anyway i remember timing my brother in like the 1980's on a clean run up the Pass at night, clean both ways...driving a 1974 model Leyland P76 V8 4 Spd manual...i remember i stopped the watch up around the last corner...6:45 (i found the scrap of paper i scribbled it on)...and as i were only a kid back then...we thought it was pretty quick lol! ....i expect a decent sports bike with a clean run up in dry conditions would be much faster....but i'm finding out...not that much! Proving to me, it's not the machine/car you take up the pass that will determine how quick you get up, ie McLaren 720S, Kawasaki Ninja H2...going up Macquarie Pass is very much like a WRC Rally Stage, it's got to do with how well you know it...and as i said me and my brother were somewhat locals...my brother knowing the pass like the back of his hand...could of we went quicker up the pass back in 1985 than 6:45..sure! but never timed another run....as i'm sure any of the youtube bikers could go up quicker than their first runs...anyway enjoy it...and make sure you get to come back down safely ok guys!
Yep! ive seen people smashing it up the pass on bikes much quicker than this, but alot will do high speed on the straights, something im not super keen on, especially since theres not much visibility ahead due to corners, and plenty of obstacles on the road :D (semi's, cyclists, sticks, cars) Keeping a decent pace through the corners is where the fun is at for me :P
Thanks for the reply! i think if from the bottom to the last tight right hand hairpin corner (notorious for Semi's getting stuck well and good) in around 6 minutes, in or on anything you're doing pretty good.. As the road has traffic going in both directions all of the time...and the conditions of the road always change from dry to wet, to rivers, to debris, to wildlife. To go faster you'd have to take some pretty big unnecessary risks...ie if you're getting up their a lot faster than 6:30...i think you really need to be driving/riding on a one-way racing track..not a public road..make sure you can enjoy it the next run i say!
I like watching these videos to see roads I have ridden or could ride. This is one of many roads from the Highlands/Tablelands to the coast of NSW. Cambewarra Mountain, the Clyde Mountain and Brown Mountain are all motorcyclists heaven. I don't want to lecture or tell others how to ride or live but I think a word of caution is warranted. Not everyone can ride like the rider in the video and not every bike can handle the road like the bike in the video. I have a Kawasaki cruiser - a big one and it cannot nor can I handle the road like the rider in the video. Enjoy the ride on whatever you ride but ride to your own skill and comfort level and take note of all speed and advisory signs.
the road is definitely tight, not suitable for a 1k sports bike. Ive been schooled up here by motards no problems! so much more nimble.
Good road for bikes. I like the pie shop at the top. This road has a lot of traffic so bikes need to be careful and pick the right line. Cars won't be watching for you as they negotiate the hills and bends. In the past there have been reports of debris and oil on the road. All in all a good road for bikes but don't be over confident. Not everyone can ride like the guy in the video and not every bike can handle the road like the one in the video

I needed this. I ordered the exact knife, and for whatever reason, my postman didn't leave the knife at my house today. It will be waiting for me at the post office in the morning. Can't wait.
How do you like the knife?
Awesome riding bro
please tell me thats your knee pucks and not pegs anyway great riding
Little knobs on the pegs
That is beautiful!
Awesome road. One question: do your motorcycle tires wear out on the right side quicker than on the left side?
fan...great riding:-)
how do you mount a 7d to a bike? wish i had my bike in sydney :(
haha you dropped the peg down on the exact corner i did a few times. Nice run mate. Mac pass is my favourite rd for cars or bikes. Growing up in Bowral it was the best thing around.
Nice vid... how did you mount the 7d? Nice vibe & shake free shots.
that less than 1 a year? id say thats pretty good?
hahaha :D
when i first started watching this video i was like HOLY CRAP DUDE YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!!. the i realized youre in another country lol
great riding dude ! Just curious as to the end bit lol??
how fast did your ride?
7 Deaths on this road in the last 5 years?? All motorcycle riders?? Its not the best road for speeding, when you have Semis and Buses coming up and down??
Come on guys can ace it up a little more!!
SLOW DOWN FABIAN
Dude, i did that run today but got pissed on by mother nature right at the top ( just as well I was stopping for a pie anyhow ) I thought I heard a scrape near the top, was that a knee down ?
nice video!
how do u mount a photo camera to the side of a bike lol?
what year model is it?
wollongong broo.
Mantis's are some scary shit insect... too much of an alien face...fuck :-/
@krazy4baja Yep you are right. Most of the still done at high mag macro level of insects are usually done with a flash as they move around alot and you do need narrow aperture to get a little dof but at high magnification ambient light is never enough, A flash can freeze motion very well in this situation and means most macro setups can be done hand held, eg. f/10 iso 100 1/200s and powerful flash will give good exposure. :)
I can see it's a vid. and it's awesome!. I meant that if you were taking a still pic for something up close in macro if you want more to be in focus then go to a better aperture to increase the field depth (more of the pic in focus) and for the 5-10 second thing was using the timer to take a pic if you want no camera shake for a better focused pic. But I can see the effect you are going for and it looks great. Don't mind me I'm just a beginner so my input may be wrong!.
@krazy4baja IM not sure what you mean about using f/22 and 5-10 seconds? This is a video so the shutter speed must be at least 1/30s. Also the light is not enough to use f/22. For the pictures, I use f/10 and flash to deliver enough light for the pictures. All the pictures are done hand held as the flash will freeze any hand shake. It is possible to see IQ degredation significantly over f/10 at higher magnifications therefore I think f/10 is a good compromise between DoF and IQ :)
Pritty cool pic but remember to use the smallest ap possible like f22 or so. I know it's hard to get close cuz it will effect depth of feild. Have you tryed some extension rings on the lens. Try a tripod like the others said and for a steadier shot and use a timed shutter setting like 5-10 seconds after you press the shutter button to ensure there's no camera movement. Awesome camera you got as well. I may be getting a d7 too!.
Awesome!!!
This is so awesome
Thanks for posting, must've been a weekday :P lol... the left hander at 4:08/10 gets a lot of people on the down change hehe the truck... yeah I saw that coming haha ;) Wish I was back on it right now! *sigh*.... Very envious man! Stay safe.
nice pig :-)
Holy shit, nice lens.
you're riding on the wrong side of the road!
Nice, like the end bit, surprised you weren't eating a pie. The truck was reversing as the corner is to tight to take in a truck, even at full lock. Stupid trucks, should be banned from the road, ruined many a good run!
agh! this is the coolest thing i've seen on youtube today. nice DoF action
use sticks...
Great video and fantastic place to ride .Awesome quality
@mugget Has to reverse to make the turn I guess.
@YYYYYYYYYYZZZZZZZZZZ IS? Next time, use a tripod.
Nice vid - looking smooth! WTF was that truck doing? :O
Nice !
@a44007 decrease the aperture ? ;)
