    I just wish some of these San Soo people would STOP using the Bill Lasiter yell. Lo Sifu said you don't do that. Bill did it because he could never quite get the breath right. How do I know , several 1st gen Masters who trained with Bill at El Monte told me so. Dont believe me you can look it up here on YT. Grand Master Woo says we don't yell in the same video where he explains the different sounds like Dik and Yak and Ha as the training breath sound of San Soo, He says "in actual fighting we don't make noise" . Look it up, Don't take my word for it.

    KUNG FU WEARING KARATE BELTS.... WTF ???

      Jimmy H Woo adopted some aspects of Karate to appease Americans who were only familiar with Karate. He even called it San Soo Karate Kung Fu for some time due to American ignorance.

    I have a friend who is a hard core MMA fighter. I showed him a Dave Hopkins demo promo video. He really liked it and said San Soo is Mixed Martial Arts. He said San Soo has every thing, kicking, punching, karate, judo, Aikido, takedowns, grappling etc. What a great compliment from a hard-core MMA fighter!

    I wonder why it is every SanSoo teacher on line is a Master or Grand Master. It seems that's all there is just SanSoon masters everywhere on line. Looks like Jimmy Woo was handing out mastership to anyone that took his class. And with the san soo Masters touting it as the oldest and most dangerous fighting system in the world it makes you wonder about the credibility of sansoo. That must have been a selling point for Jimmy Woo when he was handing out masterships. Some of the Sansoon masters online are poor tacticians and I'm not sure if its the art itself or their abilities but, across the board the sansoo masters out there are far from what you would see in a master of many other styles. Its as if Sansoon master level standards were set lower to allow for more people to advance to master level. Then there's the art of sansoo itself, with many ludacris moves and a lot of wasted motions etc... I'm actually surprised so many people study san soo

    I learned San Soo under Master Dennis McClellan, Moreno Valley, Calif and I was one of his teachers in the 80's. In San Soo you train 1- 2 -3, over and over- again and again always knowing that you will be trained to adjust to anything your opponent does. I too as a teacher trained many students to be prepared to make a choice in seconds. I trained under master Al Rubin Riverside, Calif ( RIP ) and grandmaster Bill Lasiter when he was in Ontario,Calif, in the early 80's. My partners were Master Bill Vigil, and Master Gary Sims. San Soo came very easy to me and to this day, it is a part of my life. I live now in Colorado and there isn't a place for me to train, so I train with my 22 yr old son, and I work out with my police officer son who lives in Pasadena, when I come to Calif to visit. Remember San Soo is a way of life, and as life changes so should we also be prepared to change as our opponent changes. If you have trained in San Soo, you will always be a San Soo warrior. Enjoy your training !

      Yelling comes from deep within to help your breathing and adds to your power punches, and it can rattle your opponent as you hit him ! ( 1973 ) wow, I started in 1971 under Jimmy H Woo in El Monte, Calif, as I grew up in Baldwin Park, Calif. Breathing is part of your natural training. Enjoy your San Soo training !

      It does look different from even when I took San Soo from 89-93. Its like they tried to mix other MMA type stuff to market it to UFC followers. I train BJJ now I would never look for realism with San Soo they shouldve just kept it like Jimmys San Soo

    I learnt Wing Chun Kung Fu. I consider that San Soo is somewhat better. I'll have to practise on my own with an imaginary partner.. ideally need hands-on and someone to model reactions a real body to work with to get a feel for it. I'm afflicted with the unsocial lone wolf syndrome and don't know anyone in my tiny circle that would be interested enough to train with 😔

    That takedown is terrible... I wanna say you're trying an Ouchi Gari which is a good and light takedown, but ur stance is too wide, and then not to many people are going to fall just because u push them and ur leg is right there. At least I wouldn't. The other thing is that if ur gonna kick me in the groin, don't bother blocking, just square up and block your face and ribs and I guess kick me in the groin, cus ur block is too slow and all it's gonna do is make me come from behind you and use a takedown or throw. I feel like this martial art would be effective, if you guys actually sparred. But your lack of actual engaging experience makes me feel like you guys are basically just actors. A WWE wrestler can do suplexes all day, but he may not be able to do them on an opponent trained and fights everyday. Brock Lesnar was an actual wrestler before WWE and MMA, that's why he's successful. Someone like John Cena would be torn apart in MMA due to the fact that he's just an actor.

    To train to block first is foolish. Have you ever saw a boxer, or an MMA fighter block a punch or a kick first and then counter the attack? No, because in real life, it doesn’t work. Train realistically, don’t waste your time with techniques that don’t work. Classical martial arts are great in the schools, in tournaments in demonstrations and in the movies, but on the street in a real fight, or ambush type scenario, they are totally useless, you’ll end up in the hospital, or worse!

    • @quasar4601
      @quasar4601 6 років тому

      I AGREE the attacks are so fast you just have to eat them and counter attack. Trying to time an attack and have sequence of moves is not going to work unless you're Bruce Lee

      But MMA is absolutely no match for Wing Chun or Shaolin Kung Fu! MMA is regulated in ring by referee and legal Japanese moves! Real Kung Fu is designed to kill! Shaolin Monks perfected and used this method for thousands of years to defend their land! Time and time again I’ve seen MMA come in to the temple and challenge only to loose badly! San Soo is just something bizarre form I would not use! Really any martial art you do you should be proud of because we do the same thing! Protect ones self, family and the weak!

    San Soo can be very effective. Just don't be overly analytical about fighting and what opponents will do. Adapt! You don't know exactly what your opponent will do. Use proper training in ALL techniques and aspects so you can be ready for any attack. Also, learn to read your opponent, read their movements. Get a feel for how they move and pick up perpetual habits they have. Learn to notice movements opponents make that you can time. Learn how to detect movement to see what's coming in time to counter or avoid attack. Learn how to tell when your opponent is just about to strike...etc. In San Soo videos I notice it's all very analytical and each demonstration is a counter for a certain attack, which is fine, just know that in a real situation, you will have less time to execute the techniques, less time to think and react and won't know what your opponent will come at you with. Adapt accordingly and these techniques can be executed.

    • @jesspeters1213
      @jesspeters1213 5 років тому

      As you progress in training you will not have a plan until your opponent makes a move. Once your opponent makes a move muscle memory will control your reactions with little conscious thought. If a technique for any number of reasons fails to have the result you expect, instantly change to another technique. Give your opponent no recourse but to stay on the defensive until are disabled. I love San Soo. It is very effective.

      its all practice repetition, its why we do more than 100 combos and forms, its all in th efirst counter after that its just follow up, Sa Soo is not a competition style its a survival style if you foght end s in 10 seconds you have done ur job effectively.

  • @tjp2131
    @tjp2131 8 років тому

    It's all generalizations and that's fine, but do you ever prepare for unlikely attacks in San Soo and teach students to always be ready for the unexpected?

    • @jesspeters1213
      @jesspeters1213 5 років тому

      Initially, we learn specific combinations for a specific situation. As we gain more knowledge and experience we train to fight multiple opponents, with or against opponents with a variety of weapons, blunt, bladed or firearms.

      They do. I did not train at his school but others in the area. We trained against multiple opponents, sometimes blindfolded, or using one or both hands incapacitated. Lots of fun.
