Lower upper upper Calapooia Jan 2020
After planning and dedication, a small crew assembled to successfully and legally run the upper upper Calapooia river based on the new accessibility rules. Our take out vehicle was located and parked outside the gate and we arranged for a shuttle driver to drop us off at a point where the river and road are very close together so we could legally access the river. We put in below the gorge and the class IV boulder garden which made the overall run about 10 miles. It was super fun with class III+ rapids and minor wood issues and plenty of water. The estimated gauge down the river at Holly was around 1500 cfs. It is possible to boat this super fun stretch of river, just need to plan the logistics!

A winter time run with a gauge reading of 1599 cfs at Beaver and holding steady. A very beautiful river as this section is designated Wild and Scenic! More water would be more fun, but a great day on the water.

Fun in the sun and a summertime run with a few buddies. Trying to get a feel for this super fun boat, the Dagger RPM! This was a run from June 2016 from Paradise campground down.

Opal Creek - Whitewater kayaking (low water run)
Переглядів 1,7 тис.8 років тому
This was my first run down this incredible wilderness area and former mining site. The water and geology is astounding and the whitewater is top notch as well! A flow level of 420 cfs was less than exciting, but scenic nevertheless. I was one of the few who opted for the seal launch instead of running Big Fluffy. Boy this was a mistake! I enjoyed watching everyone have great lines on Big Fluffy...
Whitewater kayaking - North Santiam River, Buno Mountain Run
Переглядів 3419 років тому
One of the last good flow days on the North Santiam for 2015. This day was a treat because it was foggy in the valley and mostly sunny for this run, although the vid doesn't show it. 1450 cfs is just about premium level for this run.
Siletz River - Whitewater Kayaking, Nov 2015
Переглядів 4639 років тому
A higher water run on the main stem of the Siletz river from Buck Creek down to Moonshine park. This includes the Silache rapid section, where I had a fun swimming experience! Also, quarry rapid is a fun one at this level. Good times and thanks for my solid crew in recovering my boat, paddle and shoe!
"Double Days"

A fun-filled summer day kayaking on two separate drainages...the North and Middle Santiam rivers. Each of these rivers offer short, but action-filled class 3-4 action with reliable reservoir-fed flow. Full utilization of the long summer days.

Breitenbush River - Whitewater kayaking (IK)

Deschutes River Float 2015
Переглядів 1,4 тис.9 років тому
A birthday float for me in August down the Deschutes River from Warm Springs to Sandy Beach which is about 52 river miles. We took three days to enjoy this stretch, camping twice along the way down. We were concerned about smoke from local wildfires, but ironically enough the day we were worried about the most was the clearest day and the other days were smokey from fires to the north. Great ti...
Meadow Camp run, Deschutes River - Whitewater Kayaking

Firing up some solid class 4 over on the famous Meadow Camp run on the Deschutes River in central Oregon just south of Bend (one of the few rivers in the world that flows to the north). This 2 mile run is packed full of action and gradient. Add that to a healthy flow of 1900 cfs of water and you have a classic run. Much appreciation goes to the local crew of paddlers who spent the time showing ...

Moved into this area 5 years ago and juat discovered this. Would love to run it with someone who knows the river. I run an IK. Have run up to class V. But i prefer to explore a new river with someone who knows it the first time.
That is what I think of on a creek run: lots of tight spots surrounded by rock walls. I would love to do that one someday.
Killer run, I live on the Siuslaw River, just getting into WW. Wil be doing Siletz for sure. Thanks for the share.
I run the Siuslaw from the RR bridge above Stagecoach Rd down to 1 mile below Tide. It is a great 2+ run in March and part of April. You should start on the Siletz from Moonshine going down first to get the feel of it. Do Lake Creek 4 miles above the postal office and take out above the horn. The season is a little earlier in early spring than the Siuslaw.
Thanks for the ride!
Is this breitenbush in Oregon?
I've watched this video several times. This looks like such a cool run. That strainer at 2:40 looks bad
Looks like fun. I have done from Moonshine down several times, and next time I want to start up just ahead of the quarry section and take out one bridge above Sams. Silache looks like a blast at lower levels, but I wouldn't want to swim it.
I ran from about 4 1/2 miles above Blaine to 3 1/2 miles below Blaine. It was fun.
Can't wait to paddle this stretch next spring!
Ok they make such a big deal at Waterloo beach and it’s this big they had me thinking it was a 10ft tall watefall
Man I remember when I almost died out there
I never thought there was videos of the calapoolia river I'm from albany btw
Hello, que referencia son los Kayak? Saludos desde Colombia
👍👍
Wow - as a newer kayaker and GoPro enthusiast- I have a kayaking pal - who’s moving to Bend and he told me we could kayak the Deschutes river - I sent him you video and he’s like no - through town and stuff - well I must say - my new life goal is to do this part of the river - sick! ua-cam.com/video/eJN0Ah_sT2c/v-deo.html
Both giving me ideas for a Aire or NRS someday.
Yep great advertisement for a outfitter 1 and a drysuit to say the least. Canocopia could be around the corner.
Are you buy yourself a Lynx or what? You watch this like weekly dude.
does this usually run in the summer?
N P yes, this is the summer run for Bend. Flows are weird on the Deschutes depending on the time of year and the stretch of river because of dewatering for irrigation, but this run is good
Большое спасибо! :) Некоторые ваши приемы мне очень пригодятся! :)
Brooks, I live in Eugene :) What IK do you recommend these days? I have a hardshell, but i'm looking to get an IK. Thanks
The NRS outlaw is basically the same shape as the MaverIK and is cheaper with lighter material. Also, the new material slides over rocks much easier. If you can afford a Stilletto or a Sotar I would consider those too. Whatever you do be sure to get foot pegs and thigh straps for additional boat control and edging capabilities.
You should join and share on the NCWWI (Northern Colorado White Water Inflatables) Facebook group.
Rolland Deschain feel free to share it there if you like
Cute 🐭
Where did y'all put on and take out? I heard there are access issues for this run.
Hunter DeMint the access issues are for the class 5 portage downstream from this section. This is the class 2-3 run that is above that portion. Do not proceed past Rocky Bend campground. Check out Soggy Sneakers for the exact locations as well as many other runs in Oregon
Where did you put in and take out?
Take out is Larwood covered bridge. The put in is about 9 miles upriver along the creek until you come to a locked gate on the road.
What was the CFS?
Shea Darland I don’t recall, but it was low flow during summer time
Крутяк!
Hi! I loved your video, that seal drop was BOLD and the whole thing looks awesome. I have never really done white water kayaking (I'm a salty Florida boy) but i'm in good physical condition and I am enamored with the idea of Kayaking Opal Creek. I imagine the water level should be more or less around 420cfs when I go. Do you think it would be too much for me as a first timer? Or my girlfriend? We're both in our early 30's and heading out there in early June.
Also, could you recommend the company you went with?
Hi Rob, glad you like the video. I went with friends and not a guide. For starters, Opal creek is a rain and snow fed creek so it is only runnable in a kayak from fall to spring. When you’re here it will still be worth hiking to as the swimming pools and water is still clear and gorgeous. That being said this is a class 4 creek when it comes to kayaking and definitely not for beginners! Things always look easier on video :) If you want to hit whitewater while you’re here you could look up eNRG kayaking out of Oregon city. They do trips on the Clackamas river and north Santiam rivers during the summer. Have a great trip.
Thanks Brooks!
What a beautiful creek! Keep on enjoying them while you are young enough. I had to stop at age 64. Life on shore is pretty boring!
Many thanks for showing us another beautiful creek.
I don't think I will ever run the horn - too freaky and too long of a lead up with a qtr mile of rapids before the rapid
Nice one dude!
Nice video, awful music!
Do you know what class is the river? And what section of it -- from where to where -- did you do? Thanks!
Michael Zlatkovsky this is the Hollywood Gorge section of the Toutle River. It's class 3 with one class 4
Got it, thanks! Have you ever done the class 2+ section, "Toutle, N. Fork - Green River to S. Fork confluence"? (www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/3509/).Any thought on it, if you have (is it scenic? is class II+ a good classification for it? do you know what flow rate you did it at?...) Thanks!
No I haven't done that section before. American Whitewater is usually pretty accurate in their river info.
I think the RPM is a little more fun than the Party Braap
Thanks for the footy Boss
Is it always so brown?
logophile no it only gets brown during high water events.
That save though, coming out of the "room of doom," though!
That RPM looks like such a fun toy!
I go tubing down this every summer lol it looks intense this year
Lookin' good out there for your first time in that boat!
Yeah Boss! Havin way too much fun!
What kayaks were you using?
The yellow boat is an NRS MaverIK and the orange boat is an NRS Bandit I
Nice, I have a couple inflatables but they don't turn as nice as those.
I enjoyed the music, enjoyed the video. Nice seeing someone descend the Row River. You must have good core strength because I did not see any shake in the video. Fun Watching
OMG ouch!!! I guess this is a lesson that a seal launch can be just as dangerous as dropping a waterfall. Hope you get better soon 😀
Nice run boys! That River looks sweet.
The music you picked works well for the feel of this run. Hope to get up there this season and enjoy the pristine snowy pureness of Bruno!
That was a really fun day last summer despite the swims at the Narrows by 3 out of 4 boaters including me haha... Just glad I got my 2nd roll attempt at Scrawley's Wall and didn't have to swim through Concussion! Will have to do this again next year when everything else is dried up.
Thanks, it's a great run. I like my pogies, I've had them for four years I think and they are still holding up. A bit awkward to get on and off but very warm inside....my hands are often sweating in there and melting my paddle wax!
