I was born on the gold coast in the 70s so I've seen it change massively. These days Brisbane is home and i wouldn't want to go back to the GC. Its nice for a visit and a swim

Born and bred Brisbane old bloke. Hi, great to see you in Brisbane and going down to the Gold Coast. Used to go surfing and camping at the Gold Coast in the early 70's when it was far more wild, natural and primitive than it is today. Gold Coast took off in the 80's mostly due to Japanese investment and tourism. It never stopped after that. Prior it was just a beach town for surfing, camping with lots of motels, caravan parks etc etc.
