@almas3427 if there are several candidates with the same basic qualifications, the one(s) who personalize their communication (vs using an impersonal “Dear Hiring Manager”) will automatically appear more favorable to the hiring decision maker. Most people like to be addressed by their own name versus something impersonal and generic so you might as well take advantage of that if you can. I wish you much success with your job search!

@@themagiccoverletter I’ve been on a hiring team side and I know that no two candidates have “the same basic qualifications”. EVERY candidate is completely different in their background and experiences. I know all of these UNWRITTEN RULES are there to discriminate including hiring for “cultural fit” instead of qualifications. These bullshit HR practices are the reason why all big box companies are going out of business. They hire culturally fit and teachers pet candidates and wonder why they are going bankrupt and blame Amazon and millennials make other excuses. In reality, they hired a bunch of idiots who get along really well. They forgot it’s a business not a social club. Agreeable people are not creative and can’t come up with solutions to unique problems. I remember 10 -15 years ago, there was ALWAYS conflict between employees and someone was always getting fired. But these days, hardly any conflict due to HR hiring “cultural fit” people but at the same time the companies are going bankrupt because they don’t have any smart people with creative ideas or who will argue against someone’s stupid idea. Popeyes CEO took a failing and outdated fast food chain and made it popular and relevant among the millennials and gen z because she was QUALIFIED and focused on excellence instead of hiring based on which candidate said Hello and which candidate said DEAR SIR/MADAM.

2utubewatcher806, even so, it may be your best bet when you are changing careers and need to highlight experience that doesn't line up well in a reverse chronological resume. Or, you can use The Magic Cover Letter with a reverse chronological resume and persuasively showcase the same experience.

@BE INSPIRED thank you for your kind words, and yes, as much as possible, in both your resume and Magic Cover Letter use the exact words and phrases that are in the job description to describe your work experience and/or qualifications. This automatically makes your resume and cover letter more appealing than an applicant with the exact same qualifications as you who does not do that. Make sense?

Personally, I prefer to go ahead and include a Magic Cover Letter as the first page of my resume because it gives me the opportunity to make it very easy for them to see how I meet the job criteria. I want to make it as easy for them to see that as possible and so even when they don't ask about one I usually include it if at all possible. Make sense?

@Michael Cardenas I'm glad the video is helpful. You can only use the persuasive email cover letter described in the video. It's very powerful when done correctly. But I think it's even more persuasive if you include a Magic Cover Letter that you submit with your resume, either as the first page or uploaded separately (depending on the company's process). The Magic Cover Letter gives you another opportunity to demonstrate very clearly and persuasively how you meet the job requirements. @Norbert great! Check the line spacing on the style tab in pages. For example, the line for your name is 1.1 instead of 1.0. The line for your email, address is 1 but notice there are 2 pt before and 3 pt after the paragraph. Change that to 0 and the white space becomes less. If you mean the white space between the TITLE OF JOB YOU SEEK and the horizontal line above or the EXPERIENCE heading below, you should be able to place your cursor there in the white space and back space to delete the line. Let me know if this helped or not.
