…imagine you would watch/listen to Voiceplay with proper headphones 😱
Geoff made a delicious Scar! I want to know how he managed those visual snarls that I swear seemed to have fangs, when he doesn't. And I'm not sure yet whether that ROAR was actually Geoff with a bit of growl or a sound effect. I'm tending towards Geoff. Also Cesar was wonderfully 'vacant' portraying Ed. And Layne's 'scared' beatboxing that you pointed out was perfectly done too. The menace from Eli is less surprising. Even though he seems to be a rather sweet guy, he can do menace really well! The theatrics on this one were really superb.
The fellow you don't recognize is Mykal who was one of the founding members 1997 until he left for Broadway. It's good to see him. Geoff makes a great Scar.
Isn’t Geoff the perfect Scar? I love their dramatic pieces. They all get to play with the characters. It is a good thing we all know he is such a nice guy, because he looks positively menacing in this. I think that they may have chosen not to do a last really low sub because he did that lion roar just shortly before that. Since 2020, when Earl left the group, they’ve been one permanent member short and they fill it in with a lot of guest artists. It can be confusing because sometimes J comes back as the featured artist even though he was a permanent member for several years. I have not watched the replay of the Web chat yet, but I understand that Mykal is going to be featured in another one soon. When they have a guest artist that has to travel they usually will record two of them and then release them a few months apart. (the things you learn when you’re a patron😂). After you’ve seen a variety of their guest artists, you might want to watch their “Just Sing”. When you do, be sure to put on the captions because it will list each person, a few of the things they’ve done with VoicePlay and what they’ve done in the meantime. Mykal has been on Broadway among other things. If you’ve only watched their newer things since the pandemic, you may not recognize all the guest artists because this was done at the beginning of Covid. It was a fundraiser for musicians who were having trouble finding work.
When they did Hellfire, some people thought the flow of the song was interrupted by the spoken parts. So after talking with patrons Layne decided to make the spoken section (from the movie) into a short rap. This does follow the animated movie closely. Although one big difference was Geoff’s interaction with Cesar (when he taps his nose). In the movie, Scar shakes Cesar’s hyena roughly. Instead, Geoff turns and shakes Layne instead.
@Wildecat10 That's hilarious, they really go all out on the theatrics. It's nice they're listening to their patrons, but I liked the spoken bit in Hellfire. Maybe I'm just in the minority there 🤷🏻♂️.
@@MikeBass4456 Well I’m in the minority with you. I really think that the spoken part adds so much context to the song for people who are unfamiliar with the storyline.
@@MikeBass4456 When Layne talked to people it was always a 50/50 split on the Hellfire dialogue. So he made it rap like this time so that maybe more people would like it.
A tip is to always watch both VoicePlay and Geoff videos with the captions on. They often bury a joke in them, as they did here. Layne put the action into a rap, to cover what's going on in the movie scene.
Sorry, the reaction was too choppy, stop and start, and there's no value added. And dude, PLEASE, quit with your pitiful imitation of Geoff's low notes. It's embarrassing and cringe worthy.
@@scottrogers7242 Thanks 😅
@@MikeBass4456Don’t pay too much attention to this. He usually just likes to troll, but can be brought into good discussions.
@Wildecat10 Don't worry, I'm not paying much attention to it. I only stop if I have something to comment on, which is often a lot with Voiceplay. I only try to hit Geoffs low notes to demonstrate how he's hitting them, but am first to admit he hits them better and is a lower bass.
@@Wildecat10 Or if he’s that unhappy, he can choose not to listen to the next one. I don’t understand why some people are not capable of giving constructive criticism without being rude.
@@janetdw True. But some people don’t realize how abrasive they are and I prefer to meet them with kindness.
This is a beautiful song. Adam B did a great job and has a great voice.❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for this reaction! VoicePlay videos are always enjoyable. Their guest is Mykal Kilgore. He was actually a founding member of VoicePlay back when they were a barbershop group just out of high school and before he left for Broadway. He left many years before they changed the group name to VoicePlay. Original group members were Layne, Geoff, Earl, and Mykal, then Scott Porter joined the group and they became "4:2:FIVE." The only other VoicePlay video that Mykal was in was "Just Sing," which they did during the pandemic shutdown as a fundraiser for musicians.
Oh wow, thanks for that info. I'm not as familiar with super early voiceplay but was aware that Geoff, Layne and Scott were originals. Great that he came back for this one and explains how easily he settled into the group.
@MikeBass4456 Most of us (newer fans) learn our VoicePlay history from Huldra Draco's YT channel. FYI - She labels some of her videos "reactor-friendly" if they don't contain spoilers. You will see her listed with the top tier patrons for both VoicePlay and Geoff's solo work. I believe that she lives in Norway.
It's his subharmonic
Beautiful cover.❤ It's a Vince Gill song🎉
Geoff's voice is amazing, obviously. But the fact that he did the arrangement, the production, the video and audio editing makes him a sheer genius. His wife Kathy is the production manager for him and Voiceplay, I don't know how they would get anything finished without her.
"They've all got the range of Geoff; of course they do"😂 Yep, I tend to forget it's all one person when listening. The stacked harmonies are exquisite. We go from growl to floating highs. It's incredible.
Geoff uses Native Instruments plugin for the instruments and sounds and a piano keyboard for the notes. His octave range is absolutely amazing. Each of his clones has their own name, personality and range. In the 3 Hobbit videos he is a different dwarf character. Left to right.... Killi (Jeff). Thorin (Jeoph). Gimli (Geoff). Filli (Daryl). Bofur (Goff).
Actually Kili would be the beardless one. Far left with braided mustache is Filli
@@hwyla4416 You're right. My bad. I get them mixed up a lot. I'll have to put that in the Rolodex in my brain for future reference 😂
Voiceplay is acappella. Geoff's stuff usually isn't.
Thanks for your comments. I like you was in awe of his gorgeous high notes. It's almost unbelievable that one person could sound so beautiful at both ends of the bass tenor range. A wonderful arrangement. Geoff isn't interested in singing super low just for the sake of it, it needs to fit the song. I'd love him to sing a complete song in his tenor range.
❤❤❤
there is something strange with your setup. the song sunds much brighter than the original YT video or all other reactions ... too less bass, too much highs thanks for sharing and spreading the video
@ChristianHermann2 perhaps it's just simply the volume being too high, maybe I'll adjust it down a notch next time. Thanks for letting me know.
Yep, epic! I think "Song of Durin" is my new favorite. This song is from Tolkien's second book ("The Fellowship of the Ring") from the LorR books. I don't believe that it was in any of the movies. This is the song that Gimli sings at Balin's tomb. It's underground in the dwarven ruins. Gimli is joined by ghosts from the past (characters are Thorin, Fili, Kili, Bofur from Geoff's songs from "The Hobbit" movies) to sing this song, which is why they disappear at the end. VoicePlay is releasing their next one this Friday, Sept. 27th. You'll get subs there as Layne arranged it 🙂 It's another Disney villain tune so Geoff is lead.
@vdoyne thanks for the info, really appreciate it 👍.
Misty Mountains has been my favorite for a long time. I find the pacing and the deep bass very soothing . Then he came out with I See Fire with each of the dwarves really getting to show off their own range. This combines the best of both in my opinion. It’s got that slow pacing where you can really appreciate that deep voice, but each of the dwarves get to sing a bit as well. And those harmonies! Delicious! You might check out the mini that he did with VoicePlay for Misty Mountains. It’s short but it’s interesting to hear the whole group, especially with the tenors. He doesn’t do his solo work a cappella. He uses plug-ins and records using his keyboard. He saves a cappella for his work with VoicePlay. I am pretty sure that that opening hum is him with some production on it. It reminds me of the opening of Dragon born / Skyrim.
@janetdw I've seen voiceplays misty mountains short, really cool having the rest of the group doing the harmonies in the back. You may well be right about that opening hum sound, thanks for listening.
Home Free's catalog is very diverse. They are focusing on Basteen because he's new and this is good for him. There has never been a lead singer.
Great reaction. Thank you. #HOMEFREE
Yes, Bastien had the lead all the way through. But it's true that often they switch off and it's VERY hard to tell who's actually singing. So much talent. They do not have a "permanent" lead singer. They switch off depending on who is best suited to the song. I think they're just trying to give us a view of Bastien's range.
A great Vince Gill cover of this beautiful song and video. #HomeFree never disappoints and I hope you'll continue to discover more of their amazing work!
Such a pretty song by HF. It’s originally by Vince Gill so this is a cover done so well by Adam Bastien (pronounced like Bass-teen). He does have a smooth voice. Boys killed it and I can relate to it. I was working and going to grad school. My husband travelled for work. First he travelled in the US and then overseas. It was tough but we made it through. Good one!!!
Great reaction and analysis of this Vince Gill cover.
Another beautiful song by Home Free. Nice that they featured Adam Bastien again on lead vocals for this country song. The background harmonies were great along with Adam's beatboxing. Also love the very touching video that went along with the song. Our lives are so busy these days but we need to connect with those we love in small special ways.
Such beautiful heartfelt song and video of a 1990’s Vice Gill song ❤ All the guys have amazing ranges Tim is incredible where he can drop the bass and the next second go sky high.
@LynnRamsay Thanks for the info, I will have to check out the original too. Tim probably has the most comfortable sounding high range for a bass I've ever heard. He certainly is incredible and Home Free are lucky to have a bass and tenor in just one person 😅.
@@MikeBass4456 Your Welcome Tim is the whole package with his 5 octave range 😂
I love their newer songs but I also love their older songs done when Chris Rupp was in the group. Songs like " Good Ol Country Harmony " and their " Hunter Hayes Medley " it's fun to watch their journey from then to now.
@@PaulaThompson-x9w It's great to see their journey from Sing Off to now and how versatile they've been covering almost any genre being both serious and silly in equal measure. A very talented group indeed.
So pretty. I am looking forward to seeing/hearing the smiles, energy and sounds Bastien will bring to the group. They don't have a lead singer. They are just introducing Bastien and letting us get used to him while showing off his range. Thanks for the Home Free reactions.
The harmonies and arrangement are stupifyingly delightful.
#HomeFree ❤❤
One of my favorite Bonnie Raitt songs gets the HF treatment. This is a perfect song to introduce Bastien to the audience. Perfect for his voice and his personality. Love it. An extraneous comment - you really should use headphones when you listen to a cappella. So much that you can really only hear that way.
A the old west pistol (big iron) was a rare sight, they were very expensive aprox $2000 in 2024 money. Rifles were more utilitarian and much cheaper due to the military having 100,000+ made, and rifles are more accurate at a distance, for hunting a necessity.
They did a great cover of one of my favorite Bonnie Raitt songs. Bastien's voice was perfect for the lead. Everyone sounded awesome in the background vocals, Rob with his bluesy sound, Tim's bass & Adam's vocal percussion. Looking forward to more of the new songs with the newest member.
Ashley Diane Rosa is a performer and recording artist from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where she was an old friend of Cesar. . She spends her time singing female lead vocals with Frequency and with multiple ensembles, like Voices of Liberty at Epcot, Jazz quartet RESOLVE, various recording studios and more. The Spanish version of this song was very popular in Puerto Rico so they incorporated part of it here.
@christinestromberg4057 good to know, thanks. I could always tell they had a good connection and now it makes sense that they were old friends. Also interesting to learn that she sings with other ensembles too, I'll have to check those out now 😃.
#THEBASSGANG
Bastien is a fine fit... Rob bringing it... Tim and the rumble...Adam more fabulousness... Chance yummy...
Another great video by #HomeFree! Love this Bonnie Raitt cover, given new life by the boys. Bastien was a fantastic lead, the BGVs and percussion amazing as always, and any time we get to hear Gospel Rob is a treat. Keep going down the Home Free rabbit hole there is much to discover and you will see that they never disappoint!
The beat goes on ... #HOMEFREE
🔥❤️
Thank you. Great reaction. #HOMEFREE
PLEASE use earbuds or headphones to maximize your HOME FREE experience. You won't believe how much detail you're missing!
Agree 1000% on the headphones! Don’t want to miss any of those sweet harmonies!
First, a big YAY! to Abe and his sweet dance moves. Actually Bastien has been a member of the Home Free family almost since the earliest days in 2000-2001. He was part of Home Free between the time Matt Atwood retired to start a family and Austin joined around 2012 or so and was a member of the Home Free B-team that covered their tour dates while they were on the Sing-Off. When Chris Rupp left in 2016 he started a group called 7th Ave with his sister Tristin and Adam Bastien. The 4th member alternated between a young lady named Kelley Jakle and Bastien's (future?) husband Jerome Bell. Adam and Jerome competed on The Voice together as either OneUp or OneUpDuo. I've seen their videos under both names.
Wow, thanks for the info. I've learned a lot there 👍
I was so impressed with Ashley's alto start. I've never heard her sing in that range for an extended period. This one made me cry the first 37 times I watched it, it is absolutely gorgeous!! Great reaction!
They really hit this one out of the park, bravo to Voiceplay for upping their game for us again. Thanks for watching.
The Spanish lyrics are from a version that's very popular in Puerto Rico and Latin America. I love it when Cesar sings in Spanish--his debut as a guest artist with VoicePlay before he joined was We're Good, and he did it in that cover too.
That's cool that there's a Spanish version and Voiceplay payed homage to that one too, thanks for the info 👍.
His voice changes when he things in Spanish. I love his voice and all it’s various moods, but there’s something very special about his voice when he’s singing in Spanish.
WTH??!!! Stop obsessing over Ashley's lower register. You are SO NOT a good reactor. You're nitpicking over the smallest things instead of appreciating the fine arrangement of this song.
That was just one thing I noticed, it's hardly obsessing. It just surprised me because I haven't heard her sing that low before. I do appreciate the arrangement of this song and Voiceplay did a great job, did you actually watch my reaction? Sorry you didn't like it, I don't claim to be everyones taste.
Cesar and Ashley having fun at an earlier date and now they are both so miserable. It's Spanish - both Cesar and Ashley were born with Spanish Cesar from Puerto Rico and I may be wrong but I think Ashley is originally or family is from Columbia. When I was young and in high school I had 4 yrs of Spanish. Over 50 yrs later, I remember but a little but love the sound of Spanish. VoicePlay had the closed caption if you want to listen to the translation. They have a really great friendship, more like brother and sister.

I am looking so forward to the new era Home Free. Adam Bastien ( Bass like the fish - Teen ) is a wonderful addition to the Home Free family. Home does ask Patrons to star in videos and send pictures or videos to feature in their videos every once in a while they really care for their fans
