Howdy! Nicely done! Pretty simple solution to a sometimes complicated issue. Thanks for sharing 🤠 Oh... and I don't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me or what, but it looked like there was a water drip in that opening in the wall right behind your head - around 17:17. Just in case... lol
Thank you! Also, not sure what that was... no water lines above that part and no wet spots or former wet spots. Thanks for the heads up though!
Please send me the info you have on your camera......thanks bryan
Please email me at modelrailroadtalk@gmail.com so I can send the info.
thanks for the info. you got my wheels turnin on this. :)
You are very welcome
CHECK RAILS ARE USED ON THE MAIN LINE AND MODEL RAILWAYS SHOULD HAVE THEM INCLUDED ITS PATHETIC THAT THEY ARE NOT STANDARD IN THE FIRST PLACE
Some manufacturers do include them on certain types of track but your right... it should be more available.
Just stumbled on you today. Regarding a simple adhesive to use. Try using shoe goop. Apply little dabs with a tooth pick for mounting LEDs or securing wores. In case you javent seen hos channel before, Elite194 has a lot of great tricks in his archives. Good DIY stuf.
I will now be wiring my test track/programming track with a double pole switch! Thanks for the tip !
Thanks for watching and your welcome!
Fantastic idea !!!
Thank you
In Holland the use an normal rail, 90 degree angle. So the use the bottom of the rail as a gard.
Thanks for the info
Check Rails, in the UK.
Thank you for the info
Ive had to, or decided to have numerous track gaps, in my layout at lift bridges, a 4 track lift out section and Femo style boards, over 12 joints, so far... If your track is getting missaligned so your guard rails will be too. So they can't reverse a derail as nothing is aligned??? I devised secure locating blocks to guide the tracks into position and to further ensure that they do line up with a specific product which solders under the rails. And aligns the rails perfectly. ModelTech's ProAlign rail joiner, available for various track codes, made in Wales. I think I will add guard rails to some of my bridge sections, but only for the look.
Guard rails can potentially help reduce derailment. However you are absolutely right in the fact if rails are not aligned, then nothing can stop derailment. Guard rails can help in certain spots however.
Thanks very much. Pardon my ignorance; would there be any advantage in slightly offsetting the Guide Rail cuts, rather than aligning everything? Paul.
The guard rails cuts would need to be the same as the rails in a gate situation just for the fact of the movement of the gate and rail clearance.
Just found your channel and glad I did. Some really great info and good video value. Look forward to catching up on past videos and seeing some future content. Thanks.
Great to have you aboard. Thank you for the kind words!
Awesome idea
Thank you
Good video, very clear. Thanks! Q: at 10:58 you say you put the Pliobond along the web of the rail. Perhaps on the ties at the edge of the spike line might be better wording? A reminder to put on those safety glasses when using the Dremel, especially when you are looking right down the line of the cut. Take this from one who had microscopic pieces of nickel silver removed from one eye. Those Dremel discs can also fly apart. I taper down the leading edges of guard rails on my points (turnouts). using code 75 bullhead rail and very tight wheel gauges, this has eliminated most derailments. That is after being sure each "switch is dead level cross-wise.
Thank you for the info & kind words
I see a lot of these videos but the poster always fails to mention the camera and model that was used. This doesn't help those of us who may want to do the same thing on our own layouts.
The camera I used is a cheapo one I got off of wish. I need to figure out how to use it better. Thank you for your post. I WILL do a video on the camera!
I always listen to you on Spotify. Thanks for the amazing content!
Thank you for listening in!
Well done.
Thank you!
New sub, nice video 👍

On your guard rails do you use a smaller code rail for the guard rail? I run code 100 on my main and code 83 on my branch. I have 2 lift sections I’m working on my layout.
I run code 83 on all my track and just use code 83 rail. In your case you could use the code 83 on the code 100 track.

I feel like you're cheating on me Randy. 😅
nice work on the buildings and you got quite a layout! :)
Thank you. It definitely is a work and pain in the butt in progress. 😁😂

Good video. Thanks! Another option for paper buildings is Model Builder software from Evans Designs. Allows customization of all aspects (size, windows, doors, siding material and exterior details, etc.) of a paper building
Thank you for the input. I have bot tried the Evans Design program. I know Evan Designs has great products.
The Bandit! Great to see you buddy. been listening on Spotify for a while.
Thanks for listening!
Like the keyed switch idea!
Yeah, it adds to the operation aspect in a simple way.
Great demo/tutorial. Thanks! I just got an inkjet printer and have printed a few buildings to build. I love the idea that if I mess up something I can just start again - I don’t have to throw a kit away. It’s easy to experiment and change things up. Two questions: - When you are scoring for a fold, do you score it on the side that will be inside the fold, or the side that will be on the outside of the corner? I’m thinking it should be the inside, but haven’t experimented with that yet. - Before you do any weathering, especially with airbrushed paint, ink washes, or whatever, do you seal it with a matte spray? And would you do that before or after constructing it? I am looking forward to diving into these!
As for the corners, I score it on the face. Yes you may see the chipboard, but I generally use a magic marker and darken the edges. Most times I will use scale lumber and put corner trim on. As for Airbrushing them, I would be careful as using paint can make it run so you would need a sealer. However in my opinion I would either us a photo editor or colored pencils to apply weathering. Using a spray to weather could potentially make the fact they are 2D stand out even more.

Afternoon. Just got onto your channel today. I like your content but having trouble following along as you walk around. Can you please mount the camera on a tripod and discuss one area at a time? Don't want to sound mean but the shaky camera is detracting from what I think is good content. Keep up the good work.
I have been working on upgrading my videos. Thank you for the input.
Love the placement of the intro! I need to meet that guy! 😁
Why Thank you.... Not sure where I got that idea from.🤔🤣

I've listened to around 20 of the podcasts so far and have gathered some great useful information from them. I was mostly an "armchair modeler" for many years but am now "full steam ahead" building an around the walls layout in a 12X16 shed for the last couple of years.
That is awesome. Taking the first step is the biggest one. When things seem to slow down, just keep moving forward!

Happy I caught your channel…enjoy watching modelers being creative in the build stages….you have quite the layout under construction…
Thank you
I noticed you are using a few sheets of plexiglass or lucite on your layout. Can you tell me where you got it and how you cut it? I am in need of a few pieces myself but have no idea how to go about getting some, or how to cut it to the size I need. Thanks!
I had the plexi, but you can get plexiglass at most home improvement stores or hardware stores. I cut it using a high tooth count circular saw blade. I have the blade set to where the teeth are no more than 1/8" through the plexiglass when cutting. GO SLOW when cutting.
@@ModelRailroadTalk Thanks for the tips!
