    Nice Video! A small "pro" tip: you don't need the Viviana RF Saver on the Receiver. It is used to get the antenna away from the human body/skin when you hide the transmitter under clothing. On the receiver-side it doesn't need to be there. Won't hurt though and it may be a good place to store backups. For me it would be to big and to close to my eyes :)

    As a Sony user, I borrowed a Nikon Z8 and the Nikon 50mm f1.2 for a week to compare them with my Sony A7rV and the 50mm f1.2 GM. Visually, I don't see much difference. Both lenses are great (sharpness, bokeh)! However, compared to the 50mm f1.2 GM, the Nikon 50mm f1.2 is huge, heavy and has a slow and loud autofocus. The weight difference of the camera-lens combination is around 500g (Sony around 1.5kg and Nikon around a little more than 2kg). So if you ask me, I won't be buying the Nikon 50mm f1.2 anytime soon.

    Great review. Yes, the CRDBAGs are expensive. They do serve a purpose for me as I move things from one camera bag or case to another depending on the job for the day. It's super convenient to grab my "cables" CRDBAG or my batteries, or small tools, or whatever else and essentially build the gear combo for the day. Admittedly these are a luxury item but they are holding up well and I can tell an assistant to grab bag "X" which is clearly labeled and also easy to see if things need to be added to the particular bag. Would I recommend them to everyone, nope! Do they fit a specific niche if you want to spend the $$$, yes. Overall, I agree with your evaluation.

    I have both and use them for different reasons. For work events I will use the 50mm 1.2 on the Z8. I'm almost 70 and I don't have a problem with using it for about a 6 hour period. I eat my spinach. The 1.8 is excellent also and if I am going all day, i.e. 15 hours, I'll go with the 1.8. Non-photographers seem to notice how pleasing the prints of the 1.2 look, especially at 1.2 or 1.3 or 1.4. They have not seen anything that looks like the prints at 1.2. It's the rendition that different from the 1.8. It is subtle, but they notice.

    The lens cap/protection for the Everyday has been my question. I have 35mm 50mm 85mm. I was going to buy the filter size (67) to fit my 85 and use step up rings for smaller lenses. But now it appears based on your video, is I’ll also have to get the defender cap ($50) to replace lens cap so there’s some protection. My question is, the defender cap to cover the filter for 85mm size, will that work for the 35 and 50 since it’s the 67 fit for filter?

I use all three major brands and my personal collection involves Nikon which I believe is in third place at the moment. I’ll be switching my focus to camera lenses instead of bodies since I’m more enthusiastic about them on the Nikon side of things rather than their camera bodies. What are the benefits of the non slim version of the ambient with new slim locks upgrade vs the slim . I would think it’s better on sticks than the slim and it’s less messy with “ coiled” internal cable . I use an ambient slim 10.8 feet its internal cable sticks out but it can be removed to put a transmitter on it which is nice cause it’s lighter than the non slim version . The non slim version does not bend extended though ..when is no bend good ? On sticks ?

    • @yostinyouthful
      @yostinyouthful 29 днів тому

      The QP slim has one less segment if I remember correctly which helps to have one less segment to mess with. The QP Slim also has an optional internal cabled kit with stock being available sometime late August according to Gotham Sound. When it comes out I’ll buy that. The amount of bend is all down to preference I like the way the QP Slim handles. Try renting some Boom Poles and seeing which ones you prefer.

    Hey there! Few things here. I’d recommend and internally cabled pole. I actually haven’t seen anyone with externally cables poles in a REALLY long time. They’re inefficient and make you work slower. Name of the game is speed and production really doesn’t care about us these days. Camera moves quick so we need to match their speed. I’d also recommend looking into used lectrosonics 411/um400a combos. Can be had for about 500-600 with a mic on the used market and triples your range compared to the g4s. And this is less of a recommendation for you and more for folks watching. Get the highest input machine you can afford for the price. High track count machines last you much longer career wise. Having a 4 input set up really limits you with what jobs you can take. A mixpre10 isn’t that much more and packs a huge punch. I’ve ran mixpre10s as my B cart on features and it keeps up well to my bigger 8 series cart. If you’re serious about production sound, the mixpre 10 or zoom f8n pro are the minimum I would recommend as systems that grow well with you. I would honestly own a mixpre and 4-6 channels of pro wireless before even thinking about upgrading my recorder. I ran an f8n for 5 years before I upgraded to an 8 series and I’ll be on this machine for the next 10 years (I’ve had it since launch). Smaller input systems like the mixpre6 are really more aimed to video people who need to do sound rather than us dedicated sound folks. Great video!

    • @yostinyouthful
      @yostinyouthful 29 днів тому

      Hey! Yes I totally agree on the internally cabled boom pole! Gotham and Trew didn’t have it in stock when I ordered but whenever they do I’m definitely buying it! I totally agree that an upgrade to my wireless is needed but I’d rather go A to D rather than A-B-C-D if that makes sense :) I’ll be getting into the A20 system as soon as I can! I agree! I’ll be getting my pro wireless before I invest into an 833. Thank you for the well thought out comment and kind words! :D

    I also have the 50 1.2 85 1.2 and 135 1.8 and the 50 1.2 is the one I use the least, I agree with you that the 1.8 is more than enough

    • @stefan_becker
      @stefan_becker 4 дні тому

      In my opinion f1.8 is definitively not enough, but the Nikon 50mm f1.2 is huge, (front) heavy and has a slow and loud autofocus. So knowing both lenses, I'd also pick the f1.8. However on my Sony system (A7rV and 50mm f1.2GM) I'd always choose the 50mm f1.2 GM because the Sony lens is small, relatively lightweight and has an instant, completely silent autofocus. And yes, if you take full body shots, you see a lot of difference between f1.2 and f1.8.

      Hey! Try the “PolarPro Chroma VND/PL”. It comes in 2-5 stops of light reduction or 6-9. The 2-5 takes care of me 90% of the time. Buy the filter in 82mm thread and then buy the appropriate Step-up rings to adapt them to your lenses thread size. That way you only have to buy one expensive filter and you can then adapt it to any lens thread under 82mm.

    Good review, it's a very specialised lens - I wouldn't want one. I still love my old AFS 50mm f/1.8, but it's a bit big with the ftz adaptor, so I just got a super small and cheap Viltrox 40mm f/2.5 (180g!) and love it for casual shooting when I'm walking my dogs or going to the store when I don't want to carry a big lump around my neck. I find 40mm really nice - a bit more breathing room than a 50, but still a similar look.

    Choosing a background so far behind is bonkers. You could have an f4 and see little difference. The 50mm f1.2S is an amazing lens. So is the 1.8S. But they produce very different portrait results in the conditions where one would reach for the 1.2S. The size and cost are the downsides and the 1.8S will be perfect in many cases.....but c'mon, if you want to make a comparison, show the conditions where you would actually see the difference.....full body shots or half-body shots (not headshots) with some not so distant background.
