How Can I Set Concrete if it’s Surrounded by Water?!? Fire Pit Swing Build Pt 1: Foundation
I am building a fire pit swing. I am building it next to my lake. The problem with this is the holes I dug for the concrete forms keep filling with water. I have to find a way to allow my concrete to set when it’s surrounded by water. Hope you enjoy.

How to Install Knee Braces to Support MASSIVE Beams
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
The 21ft beam I lifted by hand around 8 months ago is starting to bow. Some people warned me that it wasn’t thick enough to support the roof. They were right. Once I put the roof on it started to get more noticeable. I have to install some knee braces before it gets any worse. Very gratifying for you I am sure. You like to work like I do. Shouldn't the shoulders of the beam be butting up against the slots in the posts? Perhaps you could fill that gap with some lumber to make it more rigid. I'm sure you could make it look intentional.

I did not realize you had done this on a shoestring budget. It’s the way I started building. You are doing great, I wish you continued success. One thing to remember buy the best materials you can afford. If you use low quality materials you just end up doing the job over later at twice the cost of the original materials and two or more times in labor. Also don’t be afraid to ask an experienced person for advice. If you show an interest they will usually respond in kind. Greetings from Maine.

How to best fix the mistake. Well you came up the most logical answer. With tunnel vision. We all have it we just don’t control it well. Back to the fix. Jack up your sagging beam, then go up a little more. Now scab on a longish 2x12 on each side of your 6x6. This will settle slightly but will look much better. This needs some bolts or lag screws to provide support and prevent further sagging. Your solution may work but the first thing I see is that sag.

I think there may be an easier way for you to load the saw. If you built 2 or 3 little ramps beside the sawmill and If you bolt on a few pieces of steel to the front edge of the bucket like mini forks. You can then lift with the bucket “Forks” while pushing most of the load up the ramps onto the mill. I often work alone so I have to come up with some innovative solutions. Also you have already identified some shortcomings of your boom . Maybe you need to shorten that. Think of an engine hoist and it’s adjustable boom. I find with anything like your boom gets in the way and damages other stuff while you are maneuvering. Very nice build so far. Be safe please. Greetings from Maine.

I have just used the torch on fence posts and they lasted over 18 years so far.. Did not wire brush, no chemicals etc. I've build picnic tables out of spruce and torched the entire table(s) which where left to the weather for over 10 years and they are still doing well. The chemicals aren't necessary, just messy and are a pollutant. Just make sure you thoroughly burn the outer wood. You can give the tables etc. a very light sanding.

damn, as informal as this video was, this was by far the most informative video or post i've seen. Every other post or video kept saying "well you see it depents on the axial load" orrrr "well it depends on the speecies" blah blah blah. I understand the technical aspects are important, but i'm just building a bed and I just care if the wood can support a human being. The vast majority of us with this curiosity are just diy people, we're not looking to torture the wood with thousands of lbs in a house. this video told me, yups a 2x4 douglas fir is going to hold a human being without issue, and can in fact hold 2 humans who aren't morbidly obese.

I have a 2020D with a loader have had it for 23 years, it has NEVER failed me. I use Shell Rotella 15-40 in mine, I use regular old tractor hydraulic fluid for the transmission and 3 point. If you look on the bottom of the tractor right below where your left heel would be there is a plate with a couple bolts, when you service it undo those bolts and there is a round metal mesh tube in there, pull it out and clean it good with diesel fuel and reinstall. You'll love that thing. Someone mentioned Fredricks they are good there's another good one in Electra Texas called Hoye tractor they also are very good. I haven't had to use them but a couple times but they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. And yes at $4,000 you got a hell of a deal

Beautiful hoisting job. But if you cut the ends of your beam as you have, you might as well make the entire beam the same size as the tabs at either end. Thus no real chore to hoist it up. Either use a much larger beam if you want to tab it like that, or reverse the tab from beam to post so that you get more bearing area, or add posts to that beam for proper support.

So, this is quite helpful. I just built a grape trellis and used 2 2x12s as the horizontal top beams. I notched them into 2x6 uprights by routing off 0.5" of material from each--screwing and gluing together, of course. Since I want to do pull ups 6 feet away from the uprights, and I have the equivalent thickness (2") of more than a single 2x4 positioned vertically, and I only weight about 160 lbs, I should be good. Online calculators said I should be, but there's nothing like empirical data, thanks! Reach out if you'd like a free electronic copy of my 2nd book.
