Yes, Raph's range is 4 pixels longer than other turtles' so he can clear waves faster and stunlock bosses easier.

How did you not get hit by the demutagen lasers? Also, how did you know which Shredder was the real one?
Hey. The edge of the screen slightly below the middle horizontal line is the safe spot. The ray won't be able to hit me there. And the real Shredder is always the right one when he first clones himself, but if you lose track of that, you can find out by his walking speed. The real Shredder is slightly slower than the fake one.
You slashed Tora 3 times in one of the fights and he didn't run away. You should try your setup long enough to avoid death and then just trading with him. It might be even faster than these two strats. Or try straight up trading.
Oh I already tried. It seemed to me Raph took more time to get back to his feet than to step in and out, so I reverted back to this strat. But still, it also seems that trading gives me higher chance of landing 2-3 hits at once, so it still has potential. I haven't tried to time the trading strat yet. I'll try that some time.
Yeah, some enemies cycle like that. Traag does the same - you hit him 3 times, he knocks you down, hits you once, knocks you down, then repeats. Same with Granitor. Maybe there's some kind of rhythm there?
I think the main issue with trading with Tora is that, landing 2-3 hits in a row is very rare compared to Traag. For Traag, I can get it about 60-70% of the time, but for Tora maybe only 10%. But recently I found a way to make trading with Traag slightly faster. If I stand still, Traag will only knock me to the ground every other punch. So If I stand still after I manage to make 3 consecutive hits, he won't knock me to the ground and I can make the next slash almost immediately. If I implement that to Tora strat, I might be able to even shave a few seconds off.
Yea, was literally going to reply, there's weird timing involved. :) Traag you wait slightly after the first hit double hits to hit him again, and trade. Granitor is the same, you can hit him x4, jump to avoid the counter, wait slightly and repeat the cycle. I'm sure there's something similar with Tora. Bosses seem to move between two cycles.
OK, I tested it. But man these Tora double hits are so hard to come by. I know you already know what we're talking about, but let me explain in details for those who happens to stumble upon this. Tora has 112 HP, which requires either 38 kicks or 28 jump slashes. His attack does 4 points of damage. My turtle has 60 MAX HP. That means even if I take no damage during the whole stage, I can still only eat 15 punches while having to make 28 slashes (15 vs 28). But when you jump slash Tora, there's a small chance for that slash to land a double hit, so it's not exactly 15 vs 28, but slightly better than that. Still, you can't trade with him right away because you'll die. I have to check my remaining HP and do the math before initiating the fight. Then do the sidestepping until his health is low enough for me to trade without dying. At that point Tora's health will be too low for double hits to make any difference, and there will be more time loss from getting knocked down. Dodging to avoid death animation like Traag doesn't work either, because for Tora it's much harder to loop like that without getting any hit at all. (It's possible to avoid his punch by jumping and control the rhythm by kicking to accelerate the drop, but your timing has to be very precise or Tora will back away to get the ice rock, and even if you can pull it off, it doesn't save any more time than sidestepping.) I experimented with this trading strat with max HP and got the average time of roughly 34s, slightly slower than sidestepping. But for some instance where I was lucky enough to make several double hits, I got like 29s. The chance for double hit is seemingly equal, in my opinion. Maybe the question is not whether to sidestep or to trade, but whether we can find a way to get that elusive double hit consistently. With 15 vs 28, it's possible to do the one cycle if we can get the double hit to work every time. Someone just has to discover the way. (And yes we can save time ONLY if we get it to work every time.) =d

Sorry, I can't really remember. I do the routing from scratch every time I feel like beating an old record. If it's not more than several seconds faster then it's probably the old one. Just noticed that I wrench a first aid kit in this video though. Not sure if I can optimize by saving that wrench for something more necessary.
Do you happen to know timings for the various interactions with all the characters? And is there still any kind of Monaco community or wiki with useful information for speedrunning? I'm starting Locksmith 100% on Friday or Saturday btw.
Like how long it takes for each character to interact with each object? I don’t think there is any useful written speedrun guide that isn’t already outdated. The main idea for each map isn’t much different anyway. The foundation of speedrun strat is almost always the pickpocket and the wrench. Maybe the most useful guides for speedrunning this game are guides about game mechanics. Knowing game mechanics really helps with planning routes and shaving away every unnecessary second.

I'm pretty sure you could have gotten the last safes coins even with that guard sitting at that spot if you just sneak down the left side of the solid. Or am I remembering wrong?
Oh yes I could, but I'm pretty bad at that kind of maneuver so I prefer a more noobish, conventional method. =d

There's no bad coin for Locksmith in this level. Just have to be patient for the guards. The only hard part is the safes. =d

Absolutely insane, the routing and guard prediction was amazing. Was that a pattern the guards usually go in, or did you get some really lucky pattern with guards? I have been trying to get into speed running one player, and I haven't quite gotten to the point where I can manipulate guards as well as you can. What are some tips to get better, and improve my times? I have gotten in the top 15 or so people on quite a few levels now, and I can't quite bridge the gap any more.
The patterns are random but there are only several of them. I just memorized them through countless attempts. =d I think the only place I need to manipulate the guard is the last scan door, where I need him to hold the door for me. There are so many things to know that helps improve time. If you don't mind, please add me on Steam. We might be able to speedrun 4P together with other people.
