Taken from a couple of those great Discover Card Ads, this is kind of the way the 800 number for the VA comes across.

San Francisco Mable Joy cover of a Mickey Newbury tune.
Переглядів 1,5 тис.16 років тому
My cover of Mickey Newbury's "San Francisco Mabel Joy" done for the HCAG VOM1T for January 11th. I haven't done the song for at least five years so it's a bit rusty. The idea behind the HCAG VOM1T is, it's a Virtual Open Mike, 1 Take, just as you would do an actual open mic.
.I was on the uss Samuel n Moore dd 747 64/66 TONKIN GULF and the south Vietnam
F 8's and A4's, early goings, me.......... I miss Olongapo! USS Saratoga, VAW 123.
This is only my opinion, once a nation's military dominate either sea or air, they cant be defeated in a war, like some saying United States loss in vietnam, well the fact is not on the armed forces.
DLG-30...USS Horne first mission ran with carriers..spent time off coast of North Vietnam..75 miles from Haiphong....carrier went south to dmv..never took out air base..left us with ww2 destroyer as escort..during mig alert we would go to sea and destroyer went toward shore. When we lit up fire control and had a lock Migs would turn around and go back to base..we "were never there"😅
Horne was on CAP off Haiphong 12 miles off shore. I served on her from Jan 67 Pre Com in Hunters Point until we came ba k from 2nd WestPac deplyment in July 1970...great duty SK2 S-1 Division
Served on USS CACAPON AO52 and USS MISPILLION AO 105 unrep ships on Yankee station and Market Time, Token Gulf 1965-1968 SFP 3
I served 13 years in the military, my first 3 years were in the Navy, the rest Army, the Navy years we're some of the best year's of my life
Then WHY did you go to the Army??😮
The Vietnam War was an absolutely obscene waste of money and resources for the American taxpayer. Poor tax-paying Americans having their hard-earned money wasted by political and military morons on a totally unnecessary war. The Vietnam War was an economic catastrophe of massive proportions for the American people.

Yet we ran
Im a rear gunner ;)
With all that tech, we still got our butts kicked by a lesser technology.
Didn't get our butts kicked! The U.S. could have ended this war within a few years. Yet those in power chose to treat this as a policing action rather than a war.
Hardly, scoreboard boy. 59,000<2,500,000 The dinks were slaughtered. Obviously you were NOT there.
Salute and respect from down under 👍
I served 2 1/2 years aboard the USS Ticonderoga CVA-14 in Vietnam ('65-'67) as a photographer. Amazing times. I loved it on the flight deck.
I was onboard the Tico in late 66 as we went through a Typhoon . Green water over the bow ! LOL . Flew in EA1F's as an NFO
@@johnmarlin4661 I was there! I remember that storm..... we had to lash ourselves into our bunks to avoid being tossed onto the deck . Fun times, especially when they came over the 1MC, telling us to remember our abandon ship drills. We were taking on water faster than then could pump it out! The Tico was a WWII ship, and almost past her expected live span. She took three direct Kamikaze attacks during one engagement.
Was on the Forrestal when we had the fire, was a plane captain with VA-106, went back on the Intrepid when she celebrated her 25th anniversary. Made it to Australia. Great ship to work the flight deck, great bunch of ships company that worked the flight deck.
Double sonic jets ? What is that ? Two engines ? I served 6 years and never heard that phrase. And computer accuracy is nonsense. The electro-mechanical devices to aim the guns back then were not as accurate as computers. And where are the DDG photos ? They were there.
At 12:28, the sound of the A-1 Skyraider during landing sounds like a Harley Davidson.
Ko thấy lm phim về vụ hạm đội 7 của mĩ bị 2 chiếc mig17 của Việt Nam đánh bom nhỉ
USS BAINBRIDGE DLGN 25 1966 1967
Long Beach ship!
U.S.S. HANCOCK, CVA-19, 70-73 ...and many cruises before that...
Cool, bombing the hell out of villages grass huts. That’s showing them who’s boss.
hatuxka yea because the north Vietnamese never disguised machine gun nests and sniper hideouts as grass huts.
itscold yeah, you just knew every grass hut was invested with armaments, you just knew. What you didn’t seem to get is that you had no business being there.
hatuxka those coordinates were called in via marine patrols that were fired upon from those innocent huts that were so totally never ever used as cover on nests. And yea every single Vietnamese citizen wanted to be ruled by communism huh? They were all just begging for it.
itscold yeah right, carpet bombing huge areas was based on US patrols who had great intel
What a bunch of crap. Another CYA production, a poor one at that. No thank you, the exception being one of ours, an A3-D (number 7) arresting at 12:20. From an AE-3, 1967-68 (VAH-4) out 'there.'
Four West PAC deployments, '68-73, 21 months on station, Yankee Station. DESRON 7, North SAR, South SAR, Plane Guard with multiple Carriers. USS Coontz DLG-9, USS Bainbridge DLGN-25. Weapons Division, FTM-2. Best of times and the worst of times.
Excellent. Best wishes/PH.
USS Truxtun DLG(N) 35. PIRAZ, North SAR, Red Crown - '72-'73.

The lack of forward observers that would operate in the target area was a hindrance. I notice that many WWII videos render with better quality than those from the Vietnam era.
USS MIDWAY CVA 41... TONKIN GULF/ YANKEE STATION 70-71..... "M" DIV. #1 Engine Throttleman...

I was in Vietnam on board the RCL Legend of the Seas back in 2015. Coming out of Nha Trang we almost ran out of shrimp cocktail at the Windjammer buffet and I had to fight my way through a crowd of obese American tourists. It was tough but I survived and sometimes I still have flashbacks.
Wow, How did you survive? You should apply for PTSD benefits.
Father Bertolucci Lol. Yes it was difficult but you pulled thru. Great Combat experience. Thanks for sharing. 😜👍
USS St. Paul CA-73 66-68. Busy times at sea and on station. VanMarter BT -3 Yes it was very hot there also. #3 Fire Room. Port time was a blast made up for the hard times at sea. Yep I wood do it again as a younger person. At 70 I sure couldn't do it now. Omg. We were all young in those times, ( look at us in the videos ) wow where did all that time go. Great job to all Vets. 👍
Was on DD703 W L LIND Westpac Sept '70 -- Feb '71 -- Anybody else ??
Any body know how to get Agent Orange benefits from Navy --- WE showered and probably drank bay/sea water with agent orange runoff from land to streams to rivers and bay and ocean --- but they Deny ---we were even there ??
Deny? It was WMD.
My father died from it in 2008 (3 tours in Vietnam). My mother receives survivor benefits. She contacted the Pentagon to find out what awards he had earned as he was being buried in his uniform. That's what started the talks for my mother. Good luck in your en-devours and thank you for your service. Bravo Zulu
There is a list of ships that the VA has dealing with agent Orange was on DD-840 glennon she was contaminated
DD-881 Nam mostly yankee station. operation linebacker lots of gunfire support.
That war lasted 9 years too long. Dad said "It's a rich man's war." Way too many guys and gals never come home alive. That's a shame, I did my time from 1962 t 1966 in the Navy.
8 American military women were killed. About 50 civilian women, mostly all nurses

these carrier pilots were and are the best pilots ever produced. utterly amazing how they landed on a carrier when water was rough and bottom of sea fell 15-30 feet sometimes just when ready to land on the carrier.
Love these vids!! Thx for posting.
USS McKean (DD - 784) WestPac 1968 & 1970
jack how long did it take you to loose your destroyer walking legs after leaving a destroyer. i believe you had to learn to walk with a 10 degree lisp.
Normally about 24 hours did the trick. The amount of alcohol consumed had an affect on the length of time. Oddly enough it seemed the more you drank the sooner you got your land legs back.
ok my friend=have a san miguel beer on me at the copacabana in olongapo then.
There should be pictures of USS ProvidenceCLG6 we were on station Viet Nam,and YankeeStation 66-68,I was a 3rd Class Signalman during her tour of duty as ComSevethFleetFlag, I was ships company

Steve America's Reality Checker yes I remember the Providence. I was on the Oklahoma City when we Relieved the Providence in 1967.? I was a fire control man guns and there were several fire controlmen that transferred to the Oklahoma City when we relieved the providence.
We communicated with NUKL during the Easter Offensive, '72-'73, from NPO. I last saw Providence in mothballs at Mare Island in '74.

There is about a 5 second shot of MSO 436, the USS Energy. There is a good chance I was on it when the footage was taken. The Energy only made 4 WestPacs to Vietnam that I am aware of. That was some year 65-66. What an experience for a 19 year old. Long hot days boarding Vietnam craft and checking for contraband. I stood bridge and helmsman watches. What a hoot seeing her in this footage. All the MSO's are gone now. It was a great ship and a great crew.
Aviano M.F.L.C I have a really cool picture of the Engery, that a shipmate of mine from the USS Pyro AE-24 had taken while doing UNREPS with her, somewhere between 70 & 73. I served on the Pyro too, but not til later...... Late 80s/early 90s. I wish UA-cam would let us include pictures in our comments!
USS Pyro AE-24 1976 wespac B Div. Skipper Banned "Swim Call". {He was former XO of the Evans and in the water Too long before rescue).
arcadio garduque are here
Perhaps that is not a tower at all. In some views I plainly see a "tilley" parked behind the island. This is a very large crane used to pick up disabled or wrecked aircraft.
I did not see the Enterprise (CVN-65) anywhere in this footage. You can google up "the US Navy Aircraft Carriers" and confirm the hull numbers shown.
Thanks for posting I was there on the South China Sea, Yankee Station I served on the USS OKlahoma City CLG 5 I believe it was shown @1:05 it sure looks like my ship, glad to have served my Country back then.
Joe Rivera I served on the Oklahoma City from 67 70
Anyone know a Windle Seaton ?
I'm certainly not a carrier expert and my suggestion was only because the carrier shown was in line with the mention of nuclear power. The Big E was the first nuclear powered carrier.
thanks ... I've always researched on that carrier ... in an old book about plastic scale models appears an aircraft carrier with that tower, and is named as the USS Lexington ... but do not think that this boat has a name as honorable ... the tower is not the common way of the other ... maybe then was remodeled?
