North Carolina Flounder Season Got My One Keeper (yay go me!)

Set out on the neuse river in search for the bull redfish. To no avail, but caught my whole North Carolina limit of one flounder. Been running for one the last 2 years at least. Can get frustrating not finding them. or not being in the right place at the right time. But I will find one eventually. it won't be with a guide it will be on my kayak. #flounder #kayak #ncflounderseason

Nice to see ya back, great video bud. Wanted to let you know, I finally got to cherry grove in mid Aug, use both vudu shrimp and what you suggested with white plastic w chartreuse tail w stinky stuff and they liked that better, still learning in that area at 42 st at hog circle at round houses, but did catch some finally, thanks
@@robwinemiller9712 that’s awesome man. Sometimes you just got to bounce something off their heads I think. To get them to bite
I thought flounder had to be 15 or over ?
@@anthonylewis9572 yes in North Carolina is 15. But this is in south Carolina it’s 16” but atleast you can keep flounder in sc.
@@Captain_Kdawg oops. I kept a few this season out of hogs inlet.
@@Captain_KdawgSo in NC. you can't keep flounders?
@@anthonylewis9572 yea no not in nc. That’s why I come to South Carolina to be Abel to keep some flounder.
Is that the big bridge by surf city? High tide or low tide ?
@@RobleroRubx it’s the 172 bridge. I caint remember if it was high or low to be honest. I believe I was fishing incoming and outgoing.
That's awesome! Enjoy brother.
Good to see you back out Dawg great and entertaining as always
thanks man! was a good day for sure. I've still been fishing the last month or two. but sadly no one wants to see a video of a skunk! 😅
I’m glad it’s warming up some!
@Captain_Kdawg me too brother I fished in sunset back in December I loved it. We need to plan something this year
@@heathwatford1737 yea man I’ve not been to sunset beach before. But man I’m down to meet and us fish together somewhere. I’d be willing to go any where from nc all the way down to murrels inlet.
@Captain_Kdawg heck yes brother let's plan something soon for sunset inhave a couple buddies that love to fish there as well
great day of fishing bud, looks like the creek was full that day. so awesome that you can fish like that so early in the year. hopefully getting ready to start bass fishing here in the north soon, many of our lakes around me are super low. but awesome job bud. so cool that your water temps are that high already, i checked the cherry grove pier stats and they were about the same temps. dang, so jealous, lol
Heck yea man water temps are up pretty good for the middle of march thats for sure. But im sure the water temps a fluctuate up and down the next month or soo.
Been a while honkey tonk
Good job kdawg
was a tad bit windy but a dang good day fishing catching some reds!
Yo Chadillac!!!! I’m your first subber, it’s buck lol.
Good morning, I have the same rig....where is your pfd?...nice video and be safe
I keep it behind my seat. I normally don’t wear it unless it’s sporty outside
That’s gotta be one of the best places to fish 🐠
Really nice spot for kayaks. Clean water most of the time.
@@Captain_Kdawg yes Definitely great for kayaks . I live not far from there and I’m looking into buying one this coming spring. Maybe I’ll see you sometime… subscribing Cap’n
@@skeymoson thanks man! Yea hopefully soo man. Kayaking is addictive! 😂
What battery set up do you have on that yak
I’ve got (2) 100 amp hour lifepo4 redodo batteries. I carry an extra in my milk crate. As I’m allergic to paddling! 😂 thanks for watching!!
Good looking video. I’m thinking about getting a 360 camera and was wondering if you used an external mic with it or is the audio just thru the 360 camera
This was just through the external mic. I’ve heard you can use your air pods with the 360 camera though. I’ve not tried it yet tho.
What up brother congrats on the the new yak. I was in sunset earlier in the week and di ok. I believe that was a type of worm that reds eat when it gets colder
Thanks man. Yea it kinda felt like gummy feeling. I’ve never noticed that before. I’ve seen something kinda similar. that would grow on bridge columns. But it’s different shape. First for me!! Catch any decent fish?
congrats on the new kayak, looks like it lets you fish more and not worry about steering, can so relate some on my bass boat, i love my cruise control on mine, and i just have to steer with foot. so cool your still fishing this late in the year. congrats. enjoy bud
Thank man. Yea I try and fish this year. It’s a lot harder to get on a good bite. Normally this time of year I’ll go to like Jordan lake or shearin Harris. Just the simple fact it’s closer to me. And fish fresh water. I’ve actually been there like 3 times. And never put together a video. It’s just kinda fun fishing for me.
@@Captain_Kdawg that's great, good for you. i didn't get out much this year, family stuff, but hoping to in 2024. fishing is my passion for sure. keep up the great work, and hope your winter is mild for ya
@@robwinemiller9712 yes sir hopefully so. Merry Christmas 🎁!
@@Captain_Kdawg same to you
Could you describe your kayak and seat ? I live in little river and want to buy something like that
Yea man I need to do a video on the set up. Actually I just purchased a new kayak! I haven’t put together a video on it as of yet!
That was off a mud stick hahah where was that can you send me a long and lat on that
I didn’t mark it!
Fishing the ditch
Thats wild af
Craziest crap I’ve ever seen. How it’s placed soo nicely in that stump. Shoot I was going to pull it out. But I couldn’t. You’d have to cut it out .. 😂
Stainless steel prop and a stainless steel shaft now you know why people run aluminum props
Why would anyone even put themselves in that situation? You know there are old posts....so avoid said posts .....that simple.
Could have been simple ignorance, especially if the water level was just a bit higher at the time the accident happened
@@Ivan.Wright yea the lakes definitely low if it was up another foot or 2 you’d never see some of these tree stumps sticking up till it was too late! Unfortunately like this unfortunate fella what looks to be a prop from a ski Nautique in my opinion.
You gotta be from NC lol
All day every day twice on sundays 😂!!
@@Captain_Kdawg I'm from Wilmington NC
@@DIRTY_WITE yes sir I venture there some days. Been to trails end boat ramp a few times
What do you use them for? Cooking or bait or pets?
For bait. You can catch sheepshead, redfish, or black drum
@@Captain_Kdawg thank you!
What??? Cooking. U ever been outside before? Cook a fiddler crab?? Jesus
Good grief…too little to eat
Not eating them it’s for bait to catch sheepshead, redfish, and black drum.
I live in Harnett County and fish at sunset beach a lot. I might have to get a SC license so I can actually keep some of these flounder I keep catching.
Oh yea sad North Carolina flounder laws!
@@Captain_Kdawg Especially this year.
How did you mount it? Wondering if the yak attack boom pole would work for this
I used the (Railblaza kayak camera boom arm mount pole). From Amazon and then gotten a (Railblaza mini port kayak track mount base for rod holders) that fits in the kayak tracking to mount it on your kayak. But there’s two types of rails on kayaks. Just got to make sure it will fit on the tract on yours. I got both of them on Amazon.
enjoy seeing you fish cherry grove, so calm when you first went out, not too bad at end either. looks awesome there this time of the year
Yes sir it’s a beautiful place. That sun rise was beautiful. I’ve though about maybe trying to camp out there somewhere over night it would have to be on a pretty low high tide I’d image.
@@Captain_Kdawg oh yeah awesome sunrise, seen so many surf fishing there. That would be cool, not sure where you could camp out at close
@@robwinemiller9712 yea man not sure maybe up on top of the dunes at the inlet of cherry grove. I’ve been wanting to walk the area at night and try the flounder gig things too. With like a battery powered light pole too!
@@Captain_Kdawg oh yeah, that would be great
Wicked!!!! Looks good brother thanks for sharing
Yes sir thank you for watching man!
HEY DAWG, HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT LOWRANCE ACTIVE TARGET? WHAT MODEL DO YOU HAVE? ID LIKE TO GET THAT SETUP IF IT WORLKS OK. THANKS!
Man I like it I do. Mainly for deeper stuff. I’ve not used it much in scout mode. Witch would be for more shallow stuff. But to be quite honest. I’ve gotten this at half off when I bought it. But if I was to buy at full price. I’d go with garmin
Nice video man question wher did you launch from ?
Right there at the bridge
Bro that was a hell of a flounder
Yes sir he was a thick one. Fried it up on the black stone. Way too much fish for 2 people!!
Heck yes I bet he was good awesome video
Lovely flounder you caught there
Thank you! It’s awesome how camouflaged they are laying in the water/mud!!
@@Captain_Kdawg it camouflages perfectly, and has beautiful patterns.
Thanks
I have yet to venture to that spot on the yak I usually fish right around the ramp tight lines 🎣
Yes sir I’ve been out as far as the ar reef. But you gotta pick a good weather day for that!
Y’all see that flounder I snatched clear out the water?? 😂 hook sets are free!!!
Still a good day of fishing
Yes sir when you get in them. You ALMOST get tired of catching them lol…
were you still in NC? didn't look like SC, just curious. looked like a great day for fishing, and caught some nice flounders. been wanting to get out and do some fresh water here in PA, but with no rain lakes are super low.
Yes sir in North Carolina this day!
That was a good trip those were three ni e ass fish my brother
Yes sir thank man! Thanks for watching buddy!
Looked like a good flounder day my brother
Yes sir unfortunately before the flounder season!! 😞
awesome, nice variety of fishes. black drum was great. reds are so much fun
Yes sir!! I’ve not targeted black drum there before. First one in that area I’ve caught
that's awesome, good for you. keep plugging away. tight lines
@@robwinemiller9712 yes sir all we can do thanks for watching buddy!
Sorry to laugh, but it's only because I thought I was the only one doing stupid stuff on the yak! Glad you got it back. I have the same reel. 🤣
dude I am a idiot! 😝i do it all the time. thanks for watching man!!
Man I can promise you it’s a dang good reel. Any lesser of a reel would be done for..
That was awesome you got the rod back brother
Yea man was all I was worried about.
@Captain_Kdawg I am sure brother
Where exactly did you mount the camera pole? Suction or drill mounting? Sweet video
It was a railblaza pole that went in my accessory track.
I like to know where that jettie at I love the trout game
It’s kinda near oriental boat ramp man. Past all the sail boats!
Awesome fishing. Hogs Inlet great place. Well be their in 4 weeks. Hope the fishing stays good.
Yea man hopefully soo
Bonnet head sharks are pretty good to eat. Try making ceviche out of one, you'll be glad you did if you like ceviche. Shark has a great texture for making it. Ceviche is fish or shrimp that's cured in lemon or lime juice with bell pepper, onion, cilantro, and maybe ginger or hinger ale. Make little cubes of fish, chop up the rest of the stuff and add the juice. Refrigerate for an hour and serve with crackers and hot sauce. You can put jalapenos in the ceviche instead of hot sauce if you want. Awesome.
Nice catch!
Thanks man I appreciate ya watching!
Great Red. Love the vid.
Thanks man!
Brother your commentary just keeps me laughing like crazy lobe it and keep it up
Thanks man. I’m glad someone likes it. I understand it’s not your normal boring UA-cam content. And heck some may not care for it. But I like to laugh cut jokes and have a good time. No matter what’s going on.
Absolutely brother I totally agree
Good to see you back out brother glade u made it to cherry Grove the flounder have been on fire in Murrells at least one 17 to 23 everything I go out
