Yup, I agree with that. It has been a little tedious to get the plumbing up and running; to ensure that everything remains free flowing. I ended up with multiple grades of serviceable filters leading up to the Clarisea, that could be cleaned in seconds without messing up the flooring.

Goldfish are hardier fish which is why they are pushed onto beginners but the basics of fish keeping, filtration etc still apply to them the same they do tropical and marine. A lot is down to educating staff, some retail units have a high turnover of staff and so the correct information and training doesn’t always get passed on.

Stones Aquatics but there are other fish that live for a lot less time and don’t grow like 8 inches that are still hardy, like platys for example, we are then told we can’t actually keep goldfish in a 10 gallons tank and that they require at least 20 gallons because they grow so big, I’d hardly say that is very good for a beginner

@@Supersize1556 yes but the misconception is that as Tropical Fish Platies are harder to keep, whereas the only difference between the set up for each is a heater which costs no more than £20. It is something that the responsible stores have been working with trading bodies such as OATA to make change. Most recent changes have seen pictures of goldfish on small 17L aquarium packing being changed.
