It's specifically so the plane can maintain normal descent rates and profiles while operating at higher engine power to avoid shock cooling and reduce stress on the turbocharger. These "single engine prop" planes are certified into the flight levels, FL250, and it'd take a very long time to come down without them. You can't just pull the power to idle and coast down from that high.

Stick your hand out the window when you fly and you can lose 5 to 10 knots from that sometimes lol.

@jsk8drummer This comment is a bit late but you can fit 11s out back so long as you massage the inner fender with a BFH (big .... Hammer) check out thirgen.org to see more. there are plenty of guys that have 11s on the rear.

@WitchdocMotorsports do you need to mod the rear end or do anything for the 11s to fit? please reply back i wana put those same rims on my 88 z28 but i dont want it to be a pain in the ass or cost extra money to get the wide rims to fit
