...don´t know...but "I was born when I was 17..." always hits me HARD!!! ...great version of a fantastic song. thx so much for posting this. love, o
This song was such a masterpiece lyrically and melodically.
On the precipice of leaving forever to a new state. I will always miss my hometown.
Splendid version
Delighted to have come across this gem
So nice to hear Graham play guitar and so eloquently.
THis man is a genius, and I don't use this word often. His songs show an amazing blend of insightful, intense, well-put lyrics, good, memorable melodies and his singing is outstanding. Amazing. Love his songs and performance. Not well known enough, that's for sure. Sunday papers, for example, brilliantly satiric. Live performances just amazing. Hope he was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame long time ago. He is certainly in mine! If you read this, Joe, my hat's off to you. COngrats for your fantastic work over the years! You have given greater insight into some very important human dilemmas, -- just wonderful. You have my profound apprecation! Many thannks! Ted
As an artist, this song really touches my soul! It might possibly be my favorite Joe Jackson song. Also that violin is just... chef's kiss.
Been a Joe Jackson fan since forever🥰.
AWESOME SONG !!!!
I wish the interlude from 3:14 until the end of the song would go on forever. It's an exquisite riff.
MASTERPIECE !!!!!
36 jahre ist es her, dass ich ihn dies in Hamburg singen hörte (und sofort die lp holte ). bis heute ein sehr schöner Song.
I love this song, and this version of it is my favorite.
He isn't kidding about those layers. No one knows who wrote it, so the plea is itself ironic af. With everyone thinking it's Irish (the lyrics are, the music, I believe wasn't) the BS ending was perfect. As Mike Scott sang, "Dublin is a city full of Shite."
I saw this live and recorded it .. amazing
What a musical sensitivity
I hear some of Pachabel’s Canon’s legendary Chord Progression
Could be one of the best things Joe has done. Brilliant
That Violin is so beautiful
Voila
Top 👍
LOVE this arrangement and performance of a classic JJ tune!
the man is a genius......
Saw Joe Jackson in concert twice. This song is so awesome live
It is a truly beautiful song.
TY JOE IS SUCH A MASTER MUSICIAN THAT HE CAN HAVE AN AWESOME FEMALE DRUMMER , AND WE MISSED HER BEST PART , THE FINALE. OH WELL GREAT SONG AND UPLOAD, JOE LIVE IS AN AWESOME TIME.
Waves, seagulls, football crowds & church bells. My hometown too. Portsmouth. God bless you JJ.
My hometown is Rijeka, Croatia, Yes the seagulls,, football crowds-I lived 500 meters from stadion, church bells-church was even nearer. So this song lot of us have in commons.
les racines!!!
I still live in my hometown.... such a nice song.
This is fantastic, I'd love to see a live performance of this entire album - does a video exist?
I doubt it. You'd need two oboists, someone who plays the ondes martenot, a trumpet player, two cellists & a violin player as Alison can't play that _AND_ the violin at the same time. Mind you, he _did_ get together what seemed like a massive production for the release of Heaven & Hell. I didn't that that *that* was possible. I've heard Joe in interviews. He doesn't seem to have written these songs as linked thematically in any way, but with a little tweaking of the order in which you play them, you almost have the story of a couple, one dying & the other waiting for the same. Not all the songs on the CD fit this, & it isn't a full picture without some more of them to fill it out. But tracks 5 through 9 in order, with "Ever After" being in there somewhere gives me the beginnings of a story I feel could be worked out.
Unbeleivable! I ´d never thought seeing that live one day... In fact i’ve never seen jj face in 1995😀
From the fantastic album Night Music, probably the best track. Man's battle to be remembered for all time and his pact with the devil....
One of a handful of songs that consistently bring tears to my eyes
Same
Oh yes
Yep
It's been 30 years and I'll probably never go back. I love this song.
This song takes me back to my hometown again and again .... I never thought I'd miss it, but I do .....
I LOVE THIS SONG!
Memories! 💖 Happy Birthday Joe 🎈
A MASTERPIECE OF MUSIC AND THOUGHT
the only modern prophet musician , imho
great song
NIGHT MUSIC, one of the greatest albums ever made.
Joe's song writing is very underrated; he almost always says something searching and quite profound with both music and lyrics.
JJ "Night music": Thank you for this beautiful CD!
I LOVE THAT 1 THE BEST, BUT ANY JOE IS GOOD
One of my all time favorite CDs
Aww, cuts out in the middle of Sue Hadjopoulos kicking it on the drums! That's such a great section of the song, as well.
If this were sold commercially, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
+Byron Gordon Joe's album Night Music is available and the studio version is probably a bit better.
The studio version is *wonderful*, and yeah, even better than this one. Jackson is a genius.
I just discovered this today! Gorgeous
JJ band!
