Charleston Contest - 2014 Gatsby Afternoon Picnic
Переглядів 2,2 тис.10 років тому
The Charleston contest at the 2014 Gatsby Afternoon Picnic put on by the Art Deco Society of Virginia. The winner was Laura Windley, followed by Alyssa Kelly and Sydney Bernstein-Miller. Thanks, UA-cam for fixing the unsteadiness! Music provided by the Glenn Crytzer Quartette: Glenn Crytzer on guitar, Dan Levinson on clarinet, Mike Davis on cornet, and Rob Adkins on bass.
I hired the band for my son's wedding in Brooklyn. They are incomparable. Vince is an encyclopedia of the genre--and a consummate gentleman. I've loved and performed this music for years, and he's the best! Without guys like him, and his musicians, this wonderful tradition would be lost.
What is the big black tube behind the front row of musicians?
It's so beautiful when singing isnt even needed. Know what every word would be just from the music. That banjo, piano & violin (fiddle playing), followed by solo on drums. Complete heaven.
Search Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band...less sartorial but possibly a tad more ..um..
Cool Stroh violin.
Love this. Sounds amazing.
Just fantastic 😊
Hats off to these great musicians. The music they play reminds me of Gatsby
Amo está orquesta.!!❤ larga vida
What stringed instrument with a horn is that man playing? Never seen anything like it!

Hand the pleasure of seeing you live with my cousin Al Brogdon for his birthday celebration. Thanks for a fantastic memory and time!

Oh amazing!!!
Would it be ok if I used this audio as background music for my videos if I link to this video onscreen at the end of the video and in the description of the video?

The mixup at the dry cleaner in Mumbai: Whose Sari Now?
...music from the 1920s sure beats that of the 2020s.
To give credit where credit is due, from left to right: Jon Erik-Kellso, tpt; Evan Arntsen, clarinet; Paul Wells, drums; Jim Fryer, trombone; Vince Giordano, basses; Arnt Arntsen, banjo; Peter Yarin, piano; Rob Hecht, violin. This was filmed 8 days before out final night at Iguana, pre-COVID.
The end of an era!
Yes, love this! I bought the video of the band a while back and saw it like 20 days in a row. I still watch it weekly. Vince's story is amazing and the musicians in the video as well. Everyone has and interesting story for sure. Life as a performing musician is not easy. Take care.
I should also add that at the time (1926), Edison was using a technology that allowed for a lengthier recording, thus the 5 minute duration.
The song is "Hurricane", originally recorded by Red and Miff's Stompers (11/10/26), featuring Red Nichols and Miff Mole. Transcribed and re-arranged by Scott Martin and Vince Giordano in the 1980's, recorded by the Nighthawks for the album "Quality Shout" (Stomp Off Records). Composed by Paul Mertz, with a published stock arrangement by one of the major stock arranging companies. Pianist Arthur Schutt probably had something to do with the original arrangement. Nighthawks on this recording are: Pete Anderson, Evan Artnzen, Mark Lopeman (reeds); Rob Hecht (vn); Jon-Erik Kellso, Mike Ponella (tpts); Jim Fryer (tb); Arnt Arntsen (bj); Paul Wells (dm); Vince Giordano (basses and leader); Peter Yarin (pn). This video was recorded 8 days before the Iguana gig was suspended due to the COVID pandemic.
so cool.
Living history right here. I can't wait to do something like this some day.
Congratulations Miss Windley!
Well deserved!!
