The flask train came from Dounreay Power station, which has not been making power since 1994. It was radioactive waste being taken to Carlisle and then Sellafield later down the line. The container used contains elements that could potentially cause a serious disaster if not protected

Runs fairly regularly. Always has 2 engines on for the shunt at Georgemas Jnc, and yes, it is nuclear waste.

I 'd have said military - aren't the wagons for power station fuel different?

@@Thechoppersofcardiff Theres no nuclear military establishments in the north of Scotland, Coulport is on the Clyde coast, Loch Long, and gets it deliveries by road.

Theres a naval research reactor at Dounreay that’s also being decommissioned. Also, Dounreay power station itself was a Fast Breeder type which created fissile Plutonium during the reaction. As a waste product, it’s far more enticing to a rogue agent than standard spent Uranium fuel. Fissile Plutonium can be used as a fuel in other stations, but also with a little work can be used for “other purposes”….. such as time machines.
