Hello and welcome to the channel! This is my first UA-cam video, today you get to join me on the up's and down's of buying a dirt cheap mystery PC and subsequently trying to get it to play old games! Sub for more old computer content like this!
This config is pure overkill for Win95. This build can even handle WinXP effortlessly
You're an amazing computer collector with alot of love for computers especially old computer the setup looks cool you are cool and I'm subscribed waiting for more Content
its got a little eeeee ee ?? 😂1:06
I had a case like this!
You did an awesome job on this! I also absolutely love that IBM bear
I think I enjoy mid-90's rigs the most, nice work on the restore!
If you want to use Windows 10 or 11 without the bloat, there's Tiny10 and Tiny11. They're debloated versions of both of those OSs, and operate just the same as the official releases, including getting official updates from Microsoft. And arguably the biggest upside to using the Tiny OSs, is that you can install them on much older hardware than the official releases allow, so you can breathe some life back into a really old desktop or laptop from the early 2010s you might have lying around collecting dust. Everything you need to know about the projects is on their official pages on The Internet Archive, and a quick search on whatever search engine you use will easily bring it all up.
I think the missing part on the monitor stand is the "IBM Business Audio Speaker 02K4241". I found one on ebay for $19. I don't think it sold.
That space in the monitor stand may be for an optional USB hub. That's the only thing I can think of. I had a ViewSonic monitor years ago with a USB hub in the stand
I think the monitorstand is twisted sideways. The round side must be at the front and the part with the empty space at the back.
i dare you to run NT 3.1. Its *fun* to run.
not me watching this video on Windows 95 on the 300 GL hooked up to a LAN network
i like your lil character in the thumbnails & the profile picture! do you draw them yourself?
yes i do! you can find more of my art on either my twitter @thinkcentres or my bluesky @happychoice :]
A lot of power users got Central Point Desktop or Norton Desktop to have a better working environment. These replaced the Program Manager as the Windows 3.x shell and provided drive icons on the desktop, a top taskbar, better file manager, and multiple desktops / workspaces. I had an 8MB 486 back then and felt like I was running out of memory when I had a couple of applications open with CP Desktop and a 265 color wallpaper set. Good times.
Double click the left [ - ] button to close the window. This actually still works today for win32 apps (like Paint) by double clicking the app icon on the left.
I absolutely enjoy this old computer restoration videos. Awesome to see them coming back to life!
Ha, I just recently have been playing with setting up a Gateway 2000 Pentium II machine with MS-DOS 7.1 and Windows 3.1. 7.1 is an unofficial release put together by enthusiasts which creates a full release of the very last DOS version that shipped under the covers of Win 9x releases. It's main advantage has to be that it can read and write FAT32 partitions. Have you tried installing the graphics drivers for Windows? It would make your user experience vastly better, with higher resolution and colour depth. Love this ol' computer as it was current when I was starting my career, and I did work for an IBM dealer for a while back then.
Just found your channel. I SO missed building & troubleshooting pc's. Great memories!!!! Keep it up
Where’s part 2?
YAY
I remember in 1998 and 1999, the school district I was in started replacing all of their old IBM EduQuest, Compaq, and Apple IIe computers with systems in this style. The oldest ones ran Windows for Workgroups 3.11, which during summer 1999 were upgraded to Windows 95. The newer ones, which were purchased some time in 1999, all had Windows 98.
Glad to see you back, man :)
watching this on a crt lol
Impeccable timing. Was wanting to watch a Video on 3.1 just yesterday.
I feel like people who use old hard drives are living on the edge lmao. Say what you will about SD/CF adapters but I'd rather screw with those then have a 30 year old hard drive that could break at any point lmfao
Captain, just steer!
USB 1.0 wasn't released until January of 1996, and according to the Home Computer Museum, the 300GL was released in 1997, which would make sense given its 64MB of RAM, which would've been a ridiculous amount in 1995. It does kind of make the choice of Windows 3.1 feel rather out of place, lol. Regardless, love the video, love the channel, love the thumbnail art! Keep up the good work!
oh we're eating GOOD tn
9 views in 7 minutes, happy fell off. (just kidding this is peak)
JOYOUS SELECTION
I see old IBM I click video :D
Buddy, ya still around?

@happychoice98 ok, I was just worried about you. You seem like a very promising person and I was worried ya had abandoned the channel
Good stuff man. I make a lot of sleepers/ be a good ass case to convert. I need to rebuild my old pc software pc again…
im loking from windows 98, im from Swerden
Oh that's a 5 dvd burner setup right there, gotta make some money in school break time.
Get # 90 MM Noctua Fan :)
Growing up in the early 90's building PC's was the best part.
looks like old DTK case
HELL YEAH moment
That's one big boy 😲
I’m confused, is this just a tiny guy ?
W10 has a 32bit build you know
You said you do car stuff in the Appalachians. If you ever come down to the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee, come on down to Cookeville. I'll treat you to lunch. You seem like a right proper lad
why is that faster than my first setup with windows 10?
I'd rather run Windows 5 on a new machine.
Yeah the OS and apps will be thrashing memory pages to disk (and to a hard drive instead of an SSD at that) because Windows by itself takes too much of that 2 GB RAM. It just goes to show how stupidly bloated software has become. A customized Linux distro would probably work much better.
you can get it running better.. disable search and defender
These old systems are fun, personally I'd install Windows Me on it. Though going the other way maxing out the RAM at 4gg and adding an SSD should help a lot. Also if you can get a modern video card installed it will offload video rendering a make the system actually usable
may be small but your content is good
This looks like such a cool setup!
