A frantic sea fishing session 2024 but why, was it luck?
I was chuffed to say the least once i'd sat back and took it all in. Speaking to some of the other fisherman that day made me realise that I was actually doing really well but was it luck?
Arriving at West Bexington, Dorset UK which is part of the famous Chesil coast for a beach fishing session of 2024 I was surprised to see that around 20 to 30 fisherman were already there beach fishing.
Whilst I was setting up I asked the fisherman both sides of me how the beach fishing was going for them. Not good they both replied. The fisherman to my left had been fishing for 3 hours and had one small strap Conger Eel and the other had fished for 2 hours and had nothing. This was not what I wanted to hear but it didn't deter my positive thinking, I always think to myself that things can change quickly at Chesil beach and maybe i'd arrived at the right time for some good beach sea fishing 2024.
It was a mild day but the forecast had predicted some light showers that did show up but it was just light showers thankfully. I had Blacklug, joey Bluey and some Squid that I had soaked in Annatto spice, more about the Annatto spice to follow. My target was to try for a Cod or maybe a Bass hence me having plentiful of Blacklug with me. I abited up the first cast with Black lug and within 2 minutes I had a small bite and landed a small Whiting. From that moment on the sea fishing session turned out to be frantic, I had Whiting after Whiting. After catching approximately 6 Whiting, all of the regular small size i decided to switch up to a larger bait of Bluey in the hope of catching something other than a Whiting. The plan didn't completely fail as I ended up catching a much larger sized Whiting which was a welcome change from the regular pin Whiting. As I continued on with the Bluey, I did catch a different species albeit a Dogfish however, I was chuffed to catch something different than the relentless Whiting.
After around 3 hours of beach fishing I spoke to two other fisherman and asked how they were getting on and I was very surprised to hear that they hadn't caught anything. It was after I had sat down and thought about it that I realised how lucky I had been to be catching lots of fish. I had it in my head that I was doing that well as i'd only had Whiting and a Dogfish but in reality, I was doing well.
I soon ran out of Bluey as my planned main bait for the day was Black lug to target the Cod. One of the Whiting that i'd caught unfortunately had died before I had landed the fish and so I used it for bait. During the time I used the Whiting as bait I had no success at all and so I soon switched back to using Black lug but also Squid that had been soaked in Annatto spice. For a long time now I had been trying to dye Squid to a pink or red colour, only because i'd seen lure fisherman catching good fish when they used a pink or red lure as opposed to other colours. I tried food colouring but it didn't take at all. I eventually wondered and discovered how Kippers were coloured to a golden yellow colour. My search found that a ground spice called Annatto was used and so I went ahead and purchased some. After a couple of attempts the Squid did become the same colour as the Kippers however, it was very messy using the Squid whilst sea fishing on the beach and I believe the colour washed out very quickly soon after it was in the sea water. It isn't worth the mess or hassel and it's doubtful I'll use it again.
I continued on sea fishing for far longer than I had initially intended but it was worth it as amongst the pin Whiting I did catch 3 larger Whiting measuring, 36cm, 37cm and 38cm. By now it was dark and nearly time to pack up and go home but just before I started to pack away, I spoke to the same fisherman from earlier and again I was surprised to learn that they still hadn't caught a single fish. How was it that I had caught 20 fish and yet they had caught nothing? They were fishing just 15-20 yards away from me, they had Black lug, Ragworm and Squid. Was I in the right place? Or was it that I was casting around 30-40 yards further out? I would put money on it that is was because I was casting out further, what are your thoughts on that?
I was exhausted after this relentless beach sea fishing session 2024 but very very grateful of my catches.
I hope you enjoy my video.

A four-hour fishing session turned out to be one of the best I've ever had, with an incredible catch. I was sea fishing from the beach at West Bexington, Dorset. Upon arrival, I was surprised by the number of anglers lining the coast, with little room between each of us. I managed to find a spot that didn’t require too much walking and politely asked the fishermen on either side if they minded ...

One rod Rob has another epic beach sea fishing 2024 encounter with 5 different species of fish and an awesome rod bender. From the first cast and within minutes, the first fish was caught and from then on, fish after fish with almost a fish a cast. The first fish caught was a Dogfish. Caught on Mackerel and Squid combo bait and on a pulley rig with a snood line containing a 3/0 J hook and a 1/0...

What a fishing session this was. After a few weeks of not being able to go fishing due to illness, I was suffering with sea fishing withdrawals however. although my health had improved, the tides, weather etc were not so good so again I had to wait. Finally the weather and tidal flow looked good and I was ready for a sea fishing session from the beach at Bridport, Dorset, UK. Before venturing o...

Fathers' Day shore fishing from Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, Dorset, UK. It was a sunny day with an inshore wind and some weed was visible. I decided to fish in honour of a good friend Nigel who sadly passed away in April 2024. We had fished this beach together many times. RIP Nigel my good friend. I started fishing at 2:00pm and within 10 minutes I had my first rod rattle but I didn't catch,...

Sea Fishing 2024, West Bay Chesil Beach with a Crab Guard pop up bait preparation demo whilst sea fishing 2024 West Bay, Chesil Beach. This was a spur of the moment unplanned fishing session. The desire to just get out and fish was to tempting however, I only had 3rd class bait, called 3rd class bait as it had been frozen and defrosted twice before (so unfrozen 3 times). Poor mushy bait is bett...

Thank you for the video - L C
Nice video rob, well put together, whiting fest or not it’s still nice to be out catching fish 🎣
Annatto used to be used to colour butter I believe . It was also used to dye white maggots yellow
Another good video .Great to see 👀 some nice whiting comming to your baits. Tight lines Rob
Nice video again rob.. keep it up ❤❤❤
Great fishing Rob 20 fish in a session 👌
Well done rob. Great session.👍
Nice one Rob matey. All the best from GRIMSBY
Cheers Carl matey. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.
Great video, and something that makes it look a lot better alround. Think I'll give it a go myself.
Glad you liked the mods, hope it helps.
Hi rob met you yesterday on the beach with my dad and brother it’s the lad from oldbury great content keep it up 👍
Hi Phillip, so glad you've messaged me. It was a pleasure meeting you all and I hope the fishing trip was enjoyable? Glad you enjoy my videos. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. Hope to see you all again on the beaches soon.
Unlucky rob ... lost fish gutted 4 you .. I hope ur ok... love these vids
Cheers Flinty. I can't complain as I've had quite a good year fishing so far and I was pleased to secure my goal of getting on the board (just). Thanks for watching and commenting. Speak soon mate.
Hi your results are good I am not knocking your workmanship but with your skill and workspace why not make a bespoke tripod to your needs than alter an already expensive tripod
@rayharvey1339 Hi Ray, as so many of this tripod had been purchased and then those people that had purchased them were either disappointed or frustrated with them, I thought I'd show how they could be modified. I know that most people wouldn't have the tools or knowhow for all the adjustments but maybe they could do one or two them. It was mainly to show what could be done and maybe the manufacturers might take note. I hope that answers your questions. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
@1RodRob I now fully understand why you have posted the video and fair play to you for taking the time and effort to give the purchasers of the tripod to modify,as I said I was not being negative to what you were posting but praising your skills thanks for the reply and good health to you and your family.
I didn't hear any negativity and I appreciate your kind words, thank you. I have been considering making a new type of tripod for sometime now and if I do I will be sure to make a video about it. Best wishes! Rob.
Nice video .have u changed the name of your channel .
Yes I have changed my channel name. My channel name was previously called Landlocked Sea Fishing before as I am originally from the West Midlands however, I now live permanently in Dorset and I felt the channel name didn't suit anymore. As I usually only fish with one rod and some have called me one rod Rob in the past, I decided to adopt that name. I only fish one rod for a couple of reasons, firstly because I like to travel light as I have a bad back issue and secondly because I enjoy the challenge with just one rod. I hope you enjoy my videos? Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, much appreciated.
What did the gull weigh in? 😄
A lot lol.
Congratulations, rob at least didunt blank. And great video keep up these great videos. They're really nice to watch.Hope you are all right
Hi buddy, yes I was pleased to get a fish especially as 27 others blanked, it was hard going. Glad you are enjoying my videos.
@1RodRob yes I am keep them coming mate
Great video again Rob in it to win it 👍 i might join you next year 😀
Leighton, that would be great if you could join us mate, Lincoln (Fish Disco) is up for it next year also. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment.
Nice tips
Glad you like it, works well especially when the crabs are in abundance. Thanks for your comment.
great video rob good to see you out again mate
As I lost some good video footage I had to make do with this video, so thanks for the encouraging words. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the video. Take care buddy.
Hey Rob, thanks again for inviting me along & for the link😊 never a bad day when the laughs outnumber the fish. Let’s give it a go again next year👊🏻 take care buddy😎👍👍
Despite the frustrations i.e. Seagulls and difficult fishing, it was great fun and I'm definitely up for it again next year. Catch up soon buddy.
There’s an easy explanation as to why so little fish are caught these days.
Some days are better than others but on this day the fishing was tough going. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, much appreciated.
Least it wasn’t a blank rob, just nice to be out fishing, nice video mate
Hi Paul, you're right mate, myself and Fish Disco were pleased that we had each caught fish especially when we found out that 27 fisherman had blanked out of the 57 in the comp. I really appreciate your support mate, you always take the time to leave a comment, means a lot to me. Thank you!
No problem rob I enjoy watching your videos,
Thank you
Nice 1 .well done ✔️ 👍 👌

Hi Martyn, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the sub, I hope you continue to enjoy my videos. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, much appreciated.
@@1RodRob your welcome rob
Why have you changed your channel name Rob?
As I usually only fish one rod at a time, I had gained the nickname 1 rod Rob, besides, I don't live in the Midlands anymore instead I live on the south coast so Landlocked didn't suit my channel anymore.
@@1RodRob where have you moved to Rob?
South coast, Dorset.
What a beauty! Good to see you out and about Rob. See ya soon. G
Yeh it was a nice looking Conger and a good size too. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
