How to be Openminded | How to Connect Beyond Politics | How Diversity of Thought Transformed Me
I feel like this video is one of my bravest yet because I open up about my own origin story - how this California girl's politics and view of the world have been transformed by traveling to 40+ countries, living abroad, and living in Austin, Texas for 10 years.
I talk about how to be open - to me that means being 1) openminded, 2) openhearted, and 3) vulnerable & authentic.
And I break down the 3 levels of listening taught by the Co-Active coaching model, and relate that to the book, True Love, by Thich Nhat Hanh. (TLDR: It's all about being mindful and present for yourself and others!)

Here are the links to the books I recommend in the video, from my favorite local bookstore, Book People:

Supporting Your Kids' Self-Expression | How to Use Gender-Neutral Language
Переглядів 130Рік тому

What's most important is for your kids to know you love and support them in fully being whoever they are, always. In this video I talk about how to support the nonbinary and gender fluid people in your life by using they/them pronouns...
Why Binary Thinking is Bad | Sexual Orientation is a Spectrum
Переглядів 88Рік тому
Black and white thinking can lead us astray and make us feel trapped into a box that doesn't fit us! Binary thinking doesn't capture the nuance and complexity of our lived experience as well as spectrums do. As someone who lives in the middle of at least a couple of spectrums, I'm learning about the power of celebrating the middle.

The Three Circles Of Presence | Learning Life Skills From Improv
Переглядів 3012 роки тому
In my improv training I learned about a concept called the three circles of presence. It helped me understand how I tend to default react to stressful situations and times of change. It also helped me understand how my kids are reacting to transitions like starting at a new school, and to communicate with my kids about how we each tend to react to stress and insecurity. My goal is to help my ki...

Thanks this was very helpful and you have a good energy!
Thank You!🎉
What a cute video, despite not being a parent. Also, if you do decide to move to Denmark I'm sure we'd all welcome you and your family
How is it that academics think they are so much smarter than the rest of us? Just something I have observed over a long life. And judging by the comments or lack thereof, this is probably only of interest to only herself and her ego. Having said that, she seems like a nice and committed woman and I wish her all the best in what she is doing now. Greetings from 🇩🇰
My daughter has a canadian boyfriend. He calls her "low maintenance". Her hair is long and get cut twice a year. Her nails are short and without varnish. Etc
we have a way of speaking which is: "expect the worst and you will never be disappointed." - with that mentality it might be seen as a bit negative, but you will always be positively surprised. "I go to a job interview, but I don't expect to get the job.." SURPRISE.. I got it... great positive experience. UNFORTUNATELY.. i didn't get it... Well, that's what I expected, so I'm not disappointed. (It probably wasn't the right place for me anyway.)
Nice tips, but I'm afraid the sad state of work-life balance in the US will be in the way of implementing several of them.
If a child does not challenge it's own limits and your boundaries, how can it develope? When it comes to teeangers, the my Danish advise is: take at deep breath and read the sign on their foreheads: "CLOSED for reconstruction". Shake your head, leave - and bring up the subject again, when you see a glimse of somebody at work "in there". Shouting, screaming and worse just makes you look like an idiot. Not respectable!
"Hygge" is when your SOUL is cosy and comfortable. It's got an opposit: Uhygge, which means dismal/sinister atmosphere and uneasiness.
Thank you for the amazing content!
Sooooooo good. Sending to Sam (my husband) now 🎉
One of the best life hacks I have learned, is from a Danish Philosopher Storm Petersen (Called Storm P). It tells us not to bother about things we can not change!! Kind regards the Danish Viking

You two are so cute. Great explanation!!
Thank you!!
Definitely buying this book. Thanks for the review and info. I'm not due until November 2023, but excited to learn more. I lived in Germany for a few years and traveled around Europe. I'm very intrigued by how different cultures parent. <3

Speaking so much truth. Loving every part of this 👏👏👏
Dear cute
5 minutes in - this is so good! Triggered when you described the mom on the play scape. 😂👏🏽💕
Hahaha I’m guilty of it too at times! It’s not an all or nothing thing, just an awareness. :)
So happy for you Justine on what sounds like an awesome relaxing vacation with your daughter! Great insight about reading the right book at the right time in the right mood and how that can impact you.
Thank you! It was amazing!!
Your channel is so underrated!
Totally agree with you, Justine! I realized this early on and approach my 1:1 conversations with vulnerability and openness. I find that people open up immediately after they witness my vulnerability.
It’s great that you took the decision to start you Chanel 🎉 awesome 😊
Came over via Amandas post..like your positive vibes in this video, just keep going 🚀
Thanks so much! Will do!
Great conclusion to the series Justine and now for me to actually read the book!
Indeed! The book includes so much more color. It’s great!
SOOO exciting Justine! I'm super inspired by seeing your youtube channel start and come to life 💓

Aww thanks so much!! Amanda's army is awesome!! 😂
Ehhhh thanks for the shout out 🙌💕 I'm so proud (and inspired) by you! The first year is DEF the hardest. Congrats on making it here. I love how you broke this video down - including your stats, set evolution, confidence boost, etc. Sooooo good
2:38 Justine what’s an example of a poor ultimatum and how can the situation be handled differently? Great vid as always 👍
Great question! Really any ultimatum is “poor” in the sense that it sets you up for a power struggle. For example, if your kid refuses to come to dinner and you say, “You better be at the table by the time I count to 5 or else I’m taking away screen time for two weeks!” then you’re setting yourself up for a battle of wills. Your child might dig in their heels with a “so what!?” attitude. On the other hand, if you get curious and seek to understand why they don’t want to come to dinner, you open up the door to deeper connection. If you don’t have time for that or if they won’t open up to you, the natural consequence that follows - hunger that night - has the potential to teach them what they need to learn about skipping dinner without you needing to do anything! We often try to save our kids from discomfort (i.e. going to bed hungry) but that’s a much more effective natural consequence than punishing them, especially with something as unrelated as loosing screen time. I hope that’s helpful. Thanks for the kind words, Dave! I appreciate it as always!
2:24 Just like "Seek first to understand, then to be understood" from Stephen Covey's 7 Habits ... I've tried to live by this too since reading this years ago! Adding many books to my wish list watching your channel , thanks Justine!
Thank you so much for this video 😊
You look like so pretty 💓 your smile cost one million dollars 💖💖
Congratulations on the new role! 💖🎊
Thanks, Jade!
Amazing! Congratulations on this amazing opportunity and looking forward to hear the Danish Way!
Let go! 💕🙏🏼
Grats and best of luck on the new position Justine!
CONGRATULATIONS, JUSTINE! 👏🏻
