First bought his Bless the Weather album in 1971 and was a devoted fan since. 🙏🏼❤️
Anyone know what tuning / chord voicing these are?
Love this 🥰
Feel he could be reincarnation of Nick Drake. Both gentle, both missed. Thank you.
Another long fingered fuckin guitar player I'm jealous off! 🙄
Twist the nino....🔥🔥🔥🔥
There's a version that Beck performs on morning becomes eclectic. Worth seeking out.
Why the fuck is michael jackson's image in the montage of Nick Drake. I am disgusted. Nick Drake is a Good Soul 🤍✨🤍✨🤍.
You just want to give him a massive hug, don't you. Lovely soul.
Huge fan of Elliott, but... come on, Garofalo and Smith in the same room? This video could not get any more Gen X even if had Denis Leary wearing Dr. Martens and David Foster Wallace wearing his bandana while smoking in the background.
Man I love me some Ben Ay Fleck
The interviewer is an obnoxious jerk
Hypnotizing, incredible and never cease to amaze me. John Martyn is ETERNAL ♡
I keep coming back to this… I don’t think anyone ever captured the essence of the forces of nature better than John Martyn and Nick Drake did in their work.
This is sublime. True elegance and genius
Actually , wrong song. I thought it-was “Go down easy”!
I, many years ago, was playing this album, (solid air) on my car cassette stereo with my future wife in the car , around 1989. 3rd song in in, she declared “ what’s this horrible crap??”, much to my horror. 3 songs later, she said” actually, it’s really pretty, isn’t it?” Isn’t that great?
Way better interviewer than Carson Daily.
Jennifer Chiba killed Elliott Smith
Saludos!
Is it weird that he reminds me of Nick Diaz the MMA fighter lol
he looks so relaxed here! i love to see him smile. also what did he say around 0:55?
Janeane Garofalo the last scion? AKA Loki and Alanis Morissette. AKA Satan.
The best compliment I could give to John Martyn is that "there's no musician I trust more". John's sense of music has haunted so many people because in a world of musical "entertainment" and musical "performance", John's music was like staring a million miles into the soul of someone that would write the exact same song if nobody else was there to hear it.
I play on that recurring theme in my own art. I have wrote since 8th grade (for reference, I'm almost 37 now), done stuff around my town, I have terabytes of audio recordings and jams, ideas. I'm finally facing my fear and getting past that comfortability of writing songs I'd write that I know no one else will ever hear, and trying to bring them to an audience online within the year. Inch by inch....

Emozioni senza tempo...un diamante...🖤
No dislikes, sums up the taste of viewers/listeners and brilliance of this track.
Still think he was murdered.
Too short
Listening to Elliott Smith in the moments of lack of inspiration, unclear times and when being lonely. He touches my heart so much. I believe he's an angel that lived on earth among humans for some time and shared some secret tunes and touching masterpieces with us; yet that was tough and he left us so early. He is a thing.
I think Elliott would be embarrassed at how he's become this sort of mythic figure now.
Well, when you say "left us early", that's highly debatable. Don't forget that the circumstances surrounding his death are not indicative of suicide.
@Green Rocky Road humans are irrational beings so in that sense it does (make sense) It's cult behaviour. Worshipping people after death. Martyrdom, etc. Kurt Cobain another example. The cult of Kurt. The sofa he sat on once when he was 17 going for hundreds of thousands of dollars on ebay is similar to people making pilgrimages to touch relics of humans who have been given sainthood in death.
What is this song about?
I think the man in the station is himself; it's self-observation/expression. Many of his songs around this time are about being away from home, from his wife and family, trying to make it in the too-materialistic commercial music world, struggling with its false but addictive allure. Listen too, to I Don't Want to Know About Evil and Over the Hill from the same album (Solid Air) which touch on a similar theme. Actually, just listen to the whole album. You won't regret it; it's a masterpiece..
@@papercup2517 that album brought me here :)
@@papercup2517 another masterpiece , though immensely sad, is Grace and Danger.
@@jaykk6940 Definitely sad for me, a real heart tugger.
Elliot Smith was good at music songs.
still sad about this loss
Roc Marci a fukkin genius
Thank you 🙏🏽
Looking at me, never find out what a working man's about Raving all night, sleeping away the day Something to ask, something to say, something to keep the pain away Something I'd like to see if it's alright Life, go easy on me Love, don't pass me by Spending my time, making? a chime? and I'll throw away the rest Looking for ways to?...? and ease my mind Something I need, something I plea for, something I have to say Something to keep me safe when I'm away One way for me, one way for you, one way for all of us To get back home, do whatever we want to do Nothing to tell you, nothing to show, nothing that you don't know Something to play, something to say for now
Bought this album in Berkeley at the original Amoeba on Erik Carter’s recommendation. a truly magical time and place that this music holds for me.
Aaa telegraph ave...those days
First time I saw this man play was in a Pub playing what looked like a DIY guitar. His style of playing was like a breath of fresh air. He definitely was an observer of peoples character because during a break a man walked up and dropped down a pint on speaker and walked away without a word. John put his face to the mic and said. "Thank you sir (slight pause) I guarantee he is the poorest man in this house tonight." God bless the weather John.
ah yes, Portland in the 90s. That was a good time. Apathetic, angry and hated everyone. Now it's full of phony virtue signalers. Protesting is their lifestyle choice. They're all fighting to be first in line to liberal heaven.
amazing, spellbinding.
He seems relatively comfortable with Janeane. But you can tell he doesn't like to do this sorta thing. He's always like, "It's so uncomplicated" like I play music cuz I like it. Lol idk if you've seen the little video they had him make on tips for songwriting and he's just like, I play something I like then another thing then the rest is just implied. It's not super helpful. But I get what he means.
they spelt his name wrong smh
This song has always brought me to me knees,,,, The Collage is Primo also,,, Thank You
