    It's expensive but, how many applications would you get from that wee tub?

    • @LivandTrekGoCycling
      @LivandTrekGoCycling Місяць тому

      Hi Kevin, thanks for commenting. Whilst the tub is a small 3 oz size...only a small amount of paste was needed to cover two rotors of one bike. I didn't need much at all so I'm fairly happy that you get at least 20 uses out of a tub..maybe a little more. As a home user and not a professional mechanic...I'd bet the tub contents would last for longer than I'd actually need it.

  • @chrismcgourty1756
    @chrismcgourty1756 Місяць тому

    Glad you got it fixed. Just want to add that having had the same problem at times, cleaning the rotors like you did as a start. Second, remove the wheel and the pads and push both pistons out with pads in using a flat headed screwdriver. Put the pads back on. Put the wheel back on. slacken off the brake calliper, quite loose, a good 1.5 turns away from torque.. Clamp the brake lever and tighten equally both bolts whilst holding the brake lever. Let go of the brake lever. Clamp the brake lever, fully tighten to torque. Never failed me yet. Cheers.

    • @barriobarranco
      @barriobarranco Місяць тому

      That doesn't always guarantee that both pistons will travel the same distance- you may have one that is "stickier" than the other resulting in the caliper not being centred over the rotor. I worked in an outdoors centre with 60 bikes and the kids always dragged and glazed the pads, some bikes were so past it the calipers sometimes leaked and what I found was that contaminated pads- from oil, mist spray from aerosols(ie WD40-instructors trying to "help" by working on the bikes behind my back!!), mineral oil etc all went in the bin...the time and effort trying to save them wasn't worth it and rarely worked!!! With rotors you can always carefully apply a flame from a propane torch to the brake surface(don't discolour it!), this will burn off any impurities that the other methods don't fully resolve. FWIW- Personally I've never had squealing brakes on my bikes, and I stick with resin pads anyway!

    • @LivandTrekGoCycling
      @LivandTrekGoCycling Місяць тому

      So...resin pads have a benefit of reduced squealing then?

    • @barriobarranco
      @barriobarranco Місяць тому

      @@LivandTrekGoCycling Sintered ones are noisier, but take a while to heat up and are the strongest braking power (and you get a compound that's "semi metallic" (half'n'half) IIRC, the rotors may advise what pads you can use anyway- sintered etc generally on DH/MTB where brake fade would happen with resin pads under heavy use....Once bedded in and working remember to never touch the rotors with bare hands and watch for aerosol contamination!!

    • @LivandTrekGoCycling
      @LivandTrekGoCycling Місяць тому

      Oh..yes, I've learnt the hard way about touching rotors with bare skin. I even make sure I remove the rotor from the back wheel or cover it now when I put the chain through my parktool degreaser bath...so flying dirty oil doesn't land on the rotor. Once bitten...twice shy 😉

    Yes there are 2 ways up. The way you went up is the easier of the two. As you went up you passed a couple of fancy gate posts. This is where the other route comes out. The other route is steeper and plenty of hairpins. It is accessed from the back of Luc Major. N.B. I would recommend not going down it on a normal bike. It is steep in parts and sometimes has loose stones on it. If you go through the gate posts you will see a hermitage but I have never stopped and looked at it. Another monastery climb is "Santuario de Monti-Sion", near Porreres, so not much further than Randa. (no cafe though.) Muchas gracias for the video. Brings back good memories.

      Palma was it's usual, absolutely ram packed. That's why we only ever visit it by bike or bus 😃 Hey, don't knock a market on a bike ride 😉 There are always food trucks to fuel up and less 'death stares' if you're pushing a bike through it rather than cycling a bike through it 🤣 I ended up with severe Lymphoedema after cancer treatment. Extremes of heat or cold bother it and especially so with heat. It's the same with fibromyalgia but the cold is soooooo bad with fibro. I'm a 'not too hot and not too cold' kinda gal......like Goldilocks 🤣🤣 I can't push myself too hard, or I'll end up suffering for it. We had a fun day with cycling and gorgeous weather. Mid September through to late May is off peak for regular tourists but very much 'on peak' for cycling tourists 👍 It was a relaxing change to be a regular tourist. Much needed too after a stressful few months and with more surgery for me on the horizon. ⛱️

    Nice one. I did almost exact same route from same hotel in April although i didn't go as far as Valladmosa I turned near Espories towards Banyulfubar and then down to Port D'Andraxx etc. Cracking route and superb scenery on west coast although I had a front puncture on a descent which was hairy! I think as good if not better than up north as much quieter.

      Hi Steve, thanks for commenting. Its a good route isn't it...that coast road regardless of whether you ride it up or down..is a pleasure to ride. Sorry to hear about your puncture especially on a descent. You came out unscathed?

    • @stevedouglas3975
      @stevedouglas3975 2 місяці тому

      Yes I was lucky as at speed downhill. I subsequently found it was a dodgy wheel on rental bike as I had 3 punctures in 3 days(!). After 3rd one I was fed up and shop changed wheel and all good although it was odd as nothing obvious that I could see neither could shop. Anyway, fortunately I didn't come off. One thing that came out of it though is having only 1 spare tube with a rental bike not sufficient so from now on when I go abroad I will take some ready patches with me as back up as if I'd had another puncture same day I'd have been stuck.

      @LivandTrekGoCycling 2 місяці тому

      Blimey...you must have had someone smiling down on you from on high that day 😇. As for patches...they're a good idea, I try to carry a packet in my tool bottle. I'm fortunate in that I haven't a puncture on a rental bike. I think they tend to put hard wearing 'puncture resistant' tyres on rental bikes which I bet are a bugger to get off 🙄

    Living the dream! Can't really believe it's less than 3 weeks ago I was there...June has been pathetic and here in the Scottish Highlands our heating is on... we booked to go to Applecross for Thursday-Monday and at sea level it's usually warmer, but to add insult to injury the weather is forecast worse over there and 4-5C cooler than where we are in the mountains....!! (I hope to do the Bealach Na Ba this time...same ascent/distance as Sa Calobra but very difficult gradient profile in comparison...got the 30/46 chainset and 11-36 cassette on...!)..... Did notice something on your videos and from my own experiences using the designated bike paths- next time I'm taking a bell to attach to the hire bike as so many of the "leisure" cyclists are in a world of their own just cruising along...! Enjoy the sun mate!

      Hi Barry, thanks for commenting. The weather in the UK so far has been atrocious, the fact you've had your heating on in June says it all doesn't it! Hope you have a good time at Apple cross...ride safe 🚴👍

    At least you managed to get a good 50 miles done. That first section was not the best though was it. Those cicadas were so loud! Almost sounded like a loud freehub behind you. And do you see the guy towards the end pushing his luggage along on a trolley from the airport? Thought it was a wheelchair at first. And how was the coffee/cake stop with the Guvenor?

    Cool! I was there in April. Really good hotel and we thought the food was best we'd ever had from a hotel. Only issue I found was gym pretty rubbish, the rack was too wide for the bar so had to remove bar to put weights on. A minor niggle as I cycled for 5 days out of 7 anyway so only used gym once. Quick tip, supermarket just across the road is cash only. I hired my bike from Whynotcycling which is about 2 miles away and found them very good. I stored bike in the luggage room and wasn't an issue at all. I found cycling in area was good, I headed up to Puigpuyant and Banyulafar, Galilea etc and typical good Mallorcan roads and pretty quiet. Better in a way than up north as far less cyclists. One point, the hotel is actually called the Fergus Palmanova. The Fergus Tobago is the one down the road near the Whynotcycling shop.

      Hi Steve...thanks for commenting. I agree about the food. Good to hear you had a great time cycling here. I also agree there are less cyclists down here than the North. However...I'm quite happy that the hotel I'm staying in is the Tobago 😉

      @@LivandTrekGoCycling Ha! Apologies you are right. We stayed at that which is indeed the Tobago but my confusion was we were going to stay at Palmanova one but changed. Anyway, we loved it and agree on staff they were excellent. Hope the pool had warmed up as when we were there it was freezing. The sea was warmer.

    Another great interview Pete. I'm not a football follower at all, so haven't watched the program you mention. Maybe I will look it up. I'm sure you will be at the 500 subs mark in no time at all. Pretty sure I have cycled along that bit of coastal cycle path you showed at the end after the cafe, recognised it from a ride years ago we did.

      Hi William, thanks for commenting. That's a good question and I suppose much of it depends on your current level of fitness. It's a difficult question to answer but I suppose the simplest answer I can give is this....I wasn't quick up the climb, taking about 60mins to do it from the bottom to the top. As such...I would try and increase your fitness as much as possible but find a local hill which has an gradient of 6-8 percent and ride it...for 60 mins.
