A reasonable Sunday morning for flying and another chance to test the Bush X 1250.
The Bush X 1250 at Charnwood

The Bush X has a tendancy to go out of control on the take-off run and crash. The designer has added length to the fuselage, increased the wingspan, added L/E slats and many more mods to rectify this problem. The result is the Bush X 1250 which, I think, has rectified the problem!

A great day for flying at Charnwood! My Draco Mk5 maidens with an upgraded OSD; the Tornado, but still requires some tweaking to get it perfect. For some unknown reason my VCR failed to complete recording for both the Eclipson Model A and my home-built Canard. Sorry about that.

Draco Mk 5 flew three flights last Sunday (only the first and third shown here) and flew beautifully. Unfortunately a landing accident broke the right wheel off when landing. Easily replaceable and no other damage was inflicted.

Love the low flying around the oval. Great video Roger!
Love that Baby Draco landing I dare you to do it again 😊
Nice flying and great landings on all 3 models Roger .. which one do you prefer to fly ?
I don't have a preference Tony; The Nano Goblin is a very simple, beautifully flying wing, that is now 4 years old and meets the < below 240 grm mark. It's fast, manoeuverable and feeds my Fighter Pilot instincts! The Draco 5 displays inovative 3D design, is a good flyer with an intriguing U/C set-up that works very well. The Bush 1250 exhibits further 3D design development and aerodynamic development to become a nice-flying model. It appeal to my test-pilot side. AND, they are all now reliable Sunday-morning Park Flyers. Thanks Tony!
You literally could not even be arsed to splurge for digital? 0/10
At age 83, I can't see 0s or 1s Echo, You should know that!
Isn't Easter a great time of year, have a good one :-)
Hi Roger. The ground shots help to give perspective to the flight. And you missed those birds!!!

Another great video Roger!
Hi Roger. The CandC group were talking about flight simulators today and we found this site. Might be getting a few extra views this week. Regards Peter
Hello Peter and all at CandC. There are several of my Flight Simulator videos on my site; I hope you enjoy them. My simulator is Prepare3D v4 which is old hat now; having been replaced by the re-emergence of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I haven't changed to that as buying the extra scenery, weather, airports, aircraft and systems to make it exactly reflect the real world - to say nothing of the new and expensive computer you will need - is simply not worth it for me. I will continue to use P3Dv4 while I can. So now I spend most of my spare time on FPV ,3D model aircraft. Building your models using a 3D printer, fitting it out with electric motor, prop, servos, receiver etc; as well as video camera, transmitter, antenna, etc which transmits the picture from the cockpit to your goggles, is more engaging and leads to greater involvement with your friends. Cheers, Roger
Something on the wall of that “Crew Room” you won’t see any more😮
Awesome video Roger!
Hi Glen, good to hear from you again. Where are you hanging out these days?
I'm still in the US buddy, hope to make it back early next year, I will catch up and bring a plane to fly. Just want to say thank you! for helping me out, when I started this awesome FPV flying. I hope to see all you guys from Charnwood ACT flying @@rogerlowery6526
Great stuff fantastic
Truly great video, thanks for sharing the memories and images
The Mirage III accident rate in RAAF service seems pretty high. 40 machines or so lost is a huge number. Wonder how that is. The Swiss operated the Mirage for much longer than the RAAF yet they had relatively much less accidents, and none that I know of due to engine (there was one lost due to fuel exhaustion ok but it was not en engine problem it was a fuel management problem) or undercarriage issue.
RAAF pushed their aircraft hard many collisions were known, 116 RAAF Mirage IIIO were produced starting in 1963 and Swiss manufactured only 54 Mirage IIIS starting later in 1967. By 1988 RAAF Mirage IIIO had exceeded their hours while Swiss aircraft had hours to spare thus did an Mirage III upgrade that shows RAAF used their Mirages many more hours than the Swiss machines.
hi Roger! im Martin from Bs As Argentina... nice plane ando very good work!! do you share the files? thanks. and good flights!
Hello Martin, The Draco Bush Plane is a 3D printed model that comes in two sizes, 1460mm or 2m wingspan. I fly the 1460mm model. The STL/gcode files are available at: www.eaglercmodels.com/ and are not expensive. Build details and upgraded componenr files for the 1460mm version can be found on the RCGroups.com Forum at: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3978207-Draco-Bush-Plane/ The choice of props, motors, servos, etc, are up to you but excellent advice can be found in the forum. I have also added a simple FPV system to my model. The design is outstanding and the model flies as well as it looks. I highly reccomend this model.
thanks for your time!!! @@rogerlowery6526
THANKYOU for this Roger. My Dad was an airframe fitter in 2 SQDN ( Canberras) between April ‘63 and November ‘65 and we lived on Penang so the photos bring back memories. Years later he was at Williamtown with the Mirages of ‘76 SQDN. He turned 88 recently so l’ll show this to him soon. 😎👍
Music got me tap dancing 😂
Quite spectacular, if you're going to have a prang at least get it on video :-) Happy to hear the Draco will be back in the air soon.
cheers Roger, some great scenes there at all the places visited....so many changes. Good to see the Mirage getting some well warranted kudos....they served the country well
Looking good, Roger!
Hey Roger wonderful video! Loved the images of Mirages, Sabres, Lightnings, Vulcans etc. a great era in aviation must of been amazing to be involved with! I take my camera up on every flight its a great generator of memories glad your sharing yours. 75Sqn’s amazing history deserves this type of coverage thanks!
Filmed when smoking was good for you, and pin up girls were the only motivation needed to your bit for Australia.
It still is amazing to see a European fighter fly over Australia.
Nice!
Draco nice
That looks to be a very sweet flyer :-)
Despite the disadvantages, this looks like a pretty good site.
Nicely done, looking forward to the next flight.
Nice model Roger looks really good Gee I thought it was going to stall on you at one stage Look forward to seeing it fly with a better COG
❤️ 'Promosm'
great footage my father & i knew the late jim hillary Flemming ! he was a great guy & pilot !!! may rip !!!
Another great video Roger!
Thanks Glen; just making the most of the all too few breakes in the lousy weather1
It's been Windy over this way too mate! The last 5 weeks have been terrible weekend conditions. Tornado 🌪️ warnings every 3rd night.
Looks like another, beautiful day back home Roger. Model A is that a Bixler? Great video mate!
Looks like the weather was absolutely perfect mate, the NG still has the goods 🌟
Awesome Job! Good man
Impressive model, nicely done 🙂
Thanks Ted; long time no hear! Yes, the excursion into 3D model aircraft building has been informative, time consuming and exciting. However the results are something one can be truely proud of.
I'm surprised my dad's mate big jim flemming wasn't in this??? Lol
Hello Peter, When we in 75 SQN were flying Sabres, Big Jim was swanning around the USA on exchange flying F-104s. Big Jim joined 75 SQN in 1966 as CO (we had Mirages then) and he took the SQN to Butterworth in 1967. For more detail, see my UA-cam video " Operation Fast Caravan".
@@rogerlowery6526 thanks roger i believe jim could fly choppers? correct me if im wrong !
I don't know about that, Peter. In those days the RAAF had a Sikorsky S51 (I think it was) flown by members of the No 2 OCU staff for SAR at Williamtown. I don't think Big Jim was ever on the staff of No 2 OCU while it had that task. I can think of nowhere else that he could have flown choppers!
What battery pack you use here. Yours climbs well. Mine osculates up and down when I try and pull much up elevator.
Hello Spartan 329 I'm using a 3S Nano-Tech 1.0 (1000mah, 70-150C, 11.10 Wh). Other equipment includes A STRIX 1808/4000Kv motor (from the spare parts list) A RunCam Micro Swift 3 V2 camera (this provides the voltage level and flight time to the video display).} An RDQ Mach 3 Video TX (video power can be set to 25/200/600/1000mW) } A Skew Planar Antenna } Best 5.8 video combo !!!!! I use a FLYSKY Paladin PL18 TX with an FM302 "lora" module and FTr4 RX Rates and Expo are both set to only 25% This gives the N.G. a weight of about 232 gms, an excellent performance and about 20 min, duration. I use the catapult launcher only because I'm in my 80s and suffer from austeoporoses! More videos are available at: ua-cam.com/channels/HeZvWAsCgVRtibcMwNdWGw.htmlvideos
Nice work again Roger. The 'Top Hats', there is an account of the origin of the Top Hat motif by Murray Raynes: fsb.raafansw.org.au/warries.php?nID=95
Thanks Techo. 75 (Top Hat Squadron - latter, Magpie Squadron) was the only squadron I served in. This included several postings over the years on Sabres and Mirages; interspersed with postings to flying training schools, N02OCU as an instructor, Staff Collages, a Defence Attache Post and Desk Jobs! Obviously I am biosed towards 75 SQN and was pleased tosee the top-hat on some hornets. However, I just wish they would stick to the top-hat and cain as a permenant emblem.
@@rogerlowery6526 Cheers Roger, love the history, 20 years as a Hornet Techo...forever miss the sounds and smells of the fighter squadron work environment. A bit of investigative work indicates that practice footage over Port Stephens was probably shot on 7 Jun 64.
@@Techo1329 Hi Techo13. No, it wasn't filmed on the 7 Jun 64; on that date the Black Diamonds were in Port Moresby having put on an opening display for the PNG Parliament. However, the fact that this footage was taken by the ABC from a Vampire suggests to me it was taken during our rehersals for the PNG display. The commentry suggests the 3 Jun 64, the day before we departed Williamtown for Port Moresby.
Interesting weather :-)
Looks like a gorgeous day. :)
Pretty sure that is my old man at 3:36 pulling out the external battery
The Bungee launcher is working well mate
Great flight. Love the aircraft. I see you got the screen capture working well.
Roger you are a living legend.
Great flights Roger
Wow fantastic flight Roger. Loved it
