The filmmaker leaves us to make up half of the story ourselves. You could say the two would never have got together if it had been solely up to the dark-haired boy. They only got together because the redhead took control and kissed the dark boy through the sheet. Which means that the redhead must have been observing the dark one for some time, something we are not shown and have to imagine for ourselves. Likewise, in the last few seconds, what happened after the dark boy declined the invitation of the open lift door and carried on down to the first floor? We know he is not very brave, and he also doesn't know where on the eighth floor the redhead lives. So how did it happen: did the redhead have to come to the rescue again? I rather wish I didn't have to write half the plot myself.

His tense facial expression and eye movements show that he must be thinking about whether to dare to follow him. I looked again and you are right about everything that happened when they were together in the lift: the redhead did stop the other boy from pressing the button for his own floor. I missed this (as did other perplexed commenters) and assumed the lift travelled down to the first floor after the dark boy seemed not to take up the invitation and let the lift door close. I think you are right too in your interpretation of all the shenanigans on the roof. A rainbow sticker on the door -- what a good idea! What a lot you know about these things! You must have had a much more interesting life than me.😂 I'm sure you are right too in thinking that the dark boy, while shy, would have got his man somehow if the redhead hadn't taken the initiative. You can see determination in his face at 10:00. One should not assume that others are like oneself. Yes, I am baffled too about why he first wrote in black on the black garment. It makes no sense at all. As you say, a touching little film. But now I want to see a sequel. I want to know what they said to each other when the dark boy arrived in the redhead's open doorway.

In general: Although I pay quite a bit of attention to detail and very often jump back a few seconds, I too sometimes misunderstand scenes and then found clarification in the comments. As for a sequel: maybe he didn't say anything at all, but just smiled. The redhead then invited him in, asked him what he wanted to drink, and then they sat there and the redhead just asked questions, which the darkhead continued to answer somewhat shyly. Little by little he lost more and more of his shyness. As you can see from the final scene, I guess they really do have a crush on each other.
