Im a frequent traveler and I will say good luck renting from others that arent graded for customer service. Moreover, pick up the protection and save yourself the hassle. There is no commission or profit off of protections and they work only to benefit the customer. Why risk paying a deductible and filing a claim with your insurance for a car that isn’t even yours?
