Thank you for the discovery! I am not so much as many versed into the mono analogue style of older synths. But can be seduced by some. This one does it! And pricewise, it isn't totally out of reach. I really love the possibility to use a discriminative hold in order to make it an ambient synth. Yes, overall good!
My first synth back in the 80's was a SH101 which is very dull compared to the SH5 - although a lot cheaper - but got me hooked ! This machine has much more to it and capable of some great unique sounds. I have both mono and poly synths, but do find something more attractive about a deep mono synth ! Loving the Sequential Pro2/3 models - check out my other videos.
Thanks for the guided tour. The thing sounds ace. I wish that it were either less expensive, or did come with some modern touches, like the Poly D has, like a sequencer or ways of routing velocity and aftertouch,
I agree they could have added some modern touches, but £398 in uk for this machine that seems to be made of steel, lead and concrete (its heavy as f**k) seems like a great price to me.

Thanks for this cool video 😁, all that’s left to do is advertise it
@@emilylamb1883 it’s a pleasure 😁
You had me at are friends electric….
Excellent ! Such an obvious one - but it's sooo good !
I just want the sequencer on the pro 3.
@@PermanentGreen better buy a pro3 😁
Thank you for the great video, I think its time for Sequential to make an sequencer with CV and midi, it so fast and intuitive to work with it and there are not that many good ones out there that work fast like this and you can chain patterns fast.
What a great idea. The Moog Muse has a good sequencer, but they have over complicated it - the Sequential way is so fast - and you can remember how to do it without the manual after not using the synth for ages.
I sold mine, cause it was missing slide per step. But what was really amazing was paraphonic sequencing, so have a different notes line for each osc. That with polyrythm was awesome. Today I use digitone 2 and am much more happy.
Yes that's great the Pro2 does that too and I did a video on that ages ago - did think of adding that to this video, but it was long enough already ! Will have to do another one now !
@@FracturedAudio cool, I will watch it, even without owning a Pro 3 anymore.
This comment is not a critique of the video. The video is great. I still don't really understand the tuned feedback though. I should probably try multiple types of audio analysis visualizers to hopefully get a better idea.
It's a great comment - the manual describes tuned feedback as "Tuned feedback is a method of processing audio using a delay line with tun-able feedback. By varying the amount and tuning parameters you can use it to create a variety of effects, some subtle, and some industrial-grade nasty, especially if you turn on grunge." - that does not really do it justice either - will have to get a scope plugin and try it on a simple wave to see the effect - just know it sounds wicked !
Hey UA-cam, I am glad for this recommendation.
Im glad you got here ! thanks
An amazing beast. One day ..... :) Well done my friend, well done. Many good ones and thanks !
See if you can grab a bargain on FB Market or Ebay - I fear Reverb seems to make people put silly prices on things !
I bought it 2 days ago. Thanks for this video.
Fantastic always happy to enable people to buy synths !
Lovely indeed!
thanks.. just can't help coming back to this machine
Pure synth porn 😋🎹 May I ask. I've got a nice little studio together but I'm looking for my mother ship synth. I was set on the Subsequent 37 and then I came across this beast. I am only learning, so my question is, which one would you go for as a sort of beginner out of the pro 3 and the 37? Cheers Tony
Interesting - I have a Matriarch and a Muse and love them both - but the sequencer on the Pro3 blows them all out of the water - I am planning a Pro3 Sequencer video. So knowing what I know, I would probably still go Pro3 if it was just one mothership. Subsequent is also a great synth, but limited compared to the Pro3.
@FracturedAudio OK, thank you for your opinion. Tough decision.
@@tonyhart810 or get both 🤪
@FracturedAudio Ideally yes lol. I have to save up in-between each purchase. On a different note, I really want a modal carbon8 as well. I've never heard anything else like it!
@@tonyhart810 Yes that does look cool although for those tones I tend to use Arturia's Pigments which is also insane !
I got the SE used for a grand . The headphone socket is INCREDIBLY loud , and if you turn it down it turns down the midi volume ? WTF ! , the knobs are too stiff to use , and the LFO section is very odd , endless stupid encoders that are almost unusable in a live situation as you have no idea where they are , infact that applies to almost all the encoders ( bar bank and program changes ) . Not a good choice , half "real"pots and half silly encoders But i love it anyway . . . .. .. . it has a great sequencer (apart from not being able to enter a blank 16th or wrap to more sequences . I think you will have alot of fun if you can get over those points .
Stiff knobs are a little strange... but still the synth I come back to the most for creating something different.
@@user-rv8wb1nl1b Ok, good info thank you. Don't like the sound of that really though. I think my heart is set on the Moog to be honest.
@ Moog does one sound (really nicely ) the Pro 3 does that too . . .. and more .
@@user-rv8wb1nl1b agreed - Moog Muse takes it to another level - for a lot more $$ or the Matriarch just goes totally nuts - Pro3 is super versatile and creative
@@FracturedAudio you can loosen the knobs by doing 30-50 full CW-CCW consequent turns.
Thanks for the tip today have to try this with my MK1.
Did it work?
@FracturedAudio my MK1 has only left and right in and out and CV Gate out. But I run the A4 thru a overdrive pedal and it is fun. Also I bought a Korg SQ-1 Sequencer sometimes its fun to sequence the A4 or Digitone Have a good day
My MS20 only seems to be willing to sample&hold when I open up FM for the modulation generator all the way 🤔.. otherwise using similar settings to yours
that's a bit strange.. maybe you have a faulty pot
Same applies to Analog Rytm MK-II?
@@Stray_side that is an AR mk2 just the grey one not the black one
@@FracturedAudio thanks for replying and sharing the vid, but they’re two diff units.
thanks🎉❤
You're welcome 😊
A beautiful sound!
thanks !
Ive owned both synth... The PRO2 gives me a more moodier 80s darkwave vibe, while I created more dark and aggressive Berlin Techno with the PRO3. In the end, I sold the PRO3 to purchase a Matrixbrute which I immediately sold, maybe I didn't give that mono synth much of a chance, but no way does it stack up to the PRO2 or 3
I agree, I also have a Matrix Brute and love it for the look/UI and form factor, but rarely use it these days - really struggle to get the kind of sounds that come easy on the Pro2 - still have the Pro3 and its still used regularly. My main synth for the last 18month has been the Walkdorf Iridium Keybaord, its on another level.
cool, although I thought you were gona stop track 1 going directly to the main out so that track 1 wouldn’t be going to both, one effected and one as is (unless you did)
you can certainly do that, but often distortion pedals can kill the lowend, so I typically keep both in but you mix it as needed
and how can i do this one the mk1? it just has a main out that is going into my mixer
sadly you cant because it only has a single stereo output - bummer :(
@@ianturner6453 im trying to do this with a patchbay now, it should double my outputs in half normal mode
correct - bummer
Il pro 3 è più acido, graffiante. Se hai già tanti suoni 'grassi e caldi' va benissimo così! Se in un set le macchine sono tutte calde e affascinanti si impasta tutto.
I do find the the Pro3 can be more "fat" & Warm than the 2 due to the two analog oscillators and filters - but it is still very versatile and fits well in a mix
Well done
thx
11:10 … Those are both “4-poles” … 😊 Yes, the Ladder with bass compensation really kicks. I love the PRO 3/VCOs … but I also love hybrids, so interested to try the PRO 2 again. You can patch additional analog and/or digital oscillators into either … but I think I’d miss that Ladder option if I only had the PRO 2. Do you use the filters on the PRO 2 in serial/parallel a lot? Which one/in which configuration, would you use them the most? Thanks; Be well! 😎👍🏼
the filters are why I really love the pro2, very versatile and use them in both serial and paralel.. probably more in serial much like an MS20
@@FracturedAudio I wonder what Sequential is working on … ?! I’d like a Prophet ‘24 … an updated P12, with all three of the PRO 3 filters, but in series and parallel.
@@kierenmoore3236 P12 with the filters from the Pro2 would be amazing 😁
@@kierenmoore3236 I love the pro2 too - and use the filters mostly in parallel mode
I got both but in the end kept the Pro 2. It has such a unique character and depth to me that I could not replicate on the Pro 3. A larger keyed + 4 oscillators are huge also.
I still have both - but the Pro2 does get more use than the 3
So if you like a higher octave get the pro 3. Fans of the lower octave, its Pro 2 all the way. 🤔
Interesting way to look at it - I definitely manage to get some "trouser shaking" low end from the Pro2, but I know what you mean. I keep thinking I should sell one of them but nearly 3 years after getting the 3 I can't seem to bring myself to sell either !
I’m just joking about the “comparison” video. The pro 3 is being played an octave higher. I know a synth programmer gets as much low end he/she needs from whatever synth is at hand. I think workflow, user interface, available resources (sound sources, modulators, etc) are the big factors that make one instrument more useful to a given user than another. Sonically they’re all just a block of marble waiting for our magic.
Agreed ! @@robertkondor263
Perfect just what I needed to know, gonna go experiment :) thank you
enjoy !
that is such a gorgeous timbre. i am in love
thanks ! Its a great synth !
Well done 🎉🎉🎉
thanks
for some reason on my MS-20, the sample and hold output is not as wide, meaning that i dont get a wide range of voltages. Do you have any ideas why that might be.
Just spotted this .. .strange, not looked at the MS20 for a while not sure why that would be -0 hope you find a solution

Awesome! Which are the bass notes of the intro? Thanks
if you go to 1:31 on the video the notes are listed on the display of the Pro2 - also note these are not correct per the original, but "close"

got get another one !!
Thanks man

Is that pattern built into the MS20mini.
No - its an external sequencer sending midi
Legendary tune. Great tutorial, it’s only two Oscillators?
It has four .. but only using two here. Its a very flexible synth - even one Oscillator can sound great.
hey :) thank you for the vid. I'm trying to find a way to sync Frequency of the Modulation Generator externally to a sequencer/keyboard or any other clock source. So far, no luck. Does anybody know how to do this?
hi - thanks. I don't think it can be done without some internal hacking - the excellent MS-20 Legacy Plugin does support clock sync of the LFO and sounds fantastic ! While I love the MS-20, I do find when recording I use the plugin more often than the hardware.
@@FracturedAudio thanks for your response :) do you know of any other good mono synths with syncable LFO's/frequency modulation?
@@elderchildren ooo lots of choice there - the Pro2 and Pro3 from Sequential are superb also if you want to have some serious fun you should try the Behringer 2600 ARP clone - it has clock in for the LFO and is totally bonkers
@@FracturedAudio thanks dude! that sounds sick, i'll check these out :)
wtf i did the same patch and mine doesnt do that at all,how do i know if my MS20 mini is broken or something thats sad...
Hmmm unlikely it is broken but you never know - try again and check that all the controls are set to same as the video
Did you ever figure out the problem? I am having the same issues.
@@AngryPenguin22 I know your message is 2 years old, but I guess my message might help anyone else that might have a problem. You need to check your tuning on the second oscillator because if it is just a wee bit out you can end up with beating dissonance that sounds like an LFO. He's also got a lot of reverb on the sound as well, so the release is coming from that.
@@adeisidaemon Interesting. Thank you for the update.
Leave it to Giorgio Moroder
indeed !
Wicked, are you sequencing from ableton into it via midi?
Yes Ableton or Logic - usb midi works a treat
Yes indeed
