Camry Transmission Software Update - Performance
Переглядів 42 тис.9 років тому
Acceleration from a stop to a stop at operating temperature with the new "U760E Transmission Shudder Software Update" from Toyota.
I have 2012 camry 2.5l se, 184k miles started the shudder issue. Noticed if i place transmission in sport mode it shifts fine but in automatic mode its shudders low acceleration around 30 miles per hour.
thanks for the tips. it happens to my lexus is350 from 2006. I believe I put in sport mode, it can resolve it as it revs higher by avoiding the shudder at lower rpm.
Same as mine. Shifting in sports mode doesnt register the problem. Only when it is in auto mode does it occur.
Did you ever figure out the issue?
Calls that acceleration lmfaoooo.
Did you get tork converter and software done?
You're are beautiful
Your grammar is horrible while complimenting someone on UA-cam 😂😂😂
@@gdc6153😂 it won’t work dude. This is the comment section.
My 2015 Avalon V6 behaves exactly like this only due to me having a higher final drive ratio, my torque converter releases at 22 mph
Almost like this POS 8 speed transmission tries to emulate a CVT. So glad I passed on the 2018 and got a 2015.
This is a 2012-14 model pal
@@DuckSlap3051bestvidsever I THOUGHT that cluster looked a lot like my 2015... Question, why the need for a torque converter and software update on a 2012-2014? Were those the 5-speed auto? Or does the 6 speed have a problem too, that I don't know about? I specifically passed up a 2018 with 300 miles for a 2.5L / 6-speed model. I thought all the problems were on the 2018+ 8 speed?
@@DuckSlap3051bestvidsever Also, is it possible to replace a 2.4L in a 2009 with the later 2.5L? Asking for a friend.
One question. What do you think about this transmission U760E, is it good? Do you know if they have quality issues or defects? I have read they have some issues with the torque converter. Thanks for your support.
I’m taking mine in my 2012 Camry has a bad Torque converter. It’s still under warranty. Currently my car has 127k miles on it. If y’all having the same problem take it in to Toyota
My dad just took his 2012 Camry in and they said the transmission needs to be replaced at 75k miles. Ridiculous. Can a bad torque converter cause this? Because the car does have that acceleration problem.
What is happening? The Toyota's I owned in the 80's, 90's, and 2000's were bulletproof. Now I'm hearing about problems with software torque converters, CVTs failing etc. Cars are too expensive for this crap to be going on.
Tell me about it... Shid!
Do you have to do the software update when you replace the torque converter?
Yes. To fix transmission shudder (under warranty) for 2012 to 2014 Toyota Camry. They do a software update. If software update doesn't fix it they re-do software update AND change out the torque converter and add new ATF and add magnet to the transmission pan.
@@prandomable my 2008 corolla has the same problem. Is there an update for it?
@@zacharyayaga6661 I'm not sure about 2008 Corolla. This particular problem only applies to 2012-2014 Camry with this type of transmission I believe.
Hey B.J. Do you still have this car? If so, how is the transmission performing? I recently bought a 2014 RAV4 with this transmission and noticed the shudder on the way home. Toyota is fixing it as we speak, but I'm concerned about how long the fix will last. I tend to keep my vehicles for over ten years or until they are totally worn out or wrecked.
Shutter is because of trans oil dirty and or low transmission fluid
@@carlitos19cali that was my case. Ty
@@edgarduran8291 also make sure you clean your throttle body
@@carlitos19cali yup. I’m doing that this week. Thanks man
Five months ago I bought a 2019 Toyota Camry LE. It’s been a nightmare ever since! I found out that the reason the transmission seems like it’s fishing for gears and is jerky is because they switched transmissions in 2018 from a six speed to an eight speed. The dealer took a drive with me and said that’s normal for the eight speed transmission however the ride quality sucks and I’m worried about long-term! I want the vehicle to last at least 200,000 miles! The six speed was bulletproof I don’t understand why Toyota would do this! I’m sure it’s for gas mileage but it got gas mileage years ago! I’m an unhappy customer!!
Just bought a 2018 Camry SE. Had the initial reaction as well. I'm learning that it's a bit more sensitive and I feel like adapting to driving it has helped. Hoping that even if I bought it used it'll still learn my driving behavior. It's not perfect, but so long as I don't mash it down it's not terrible. I might still take it into the local toyota dealer to see if they'll install the TSB update. Did yours offer to do this?
Ben Larkins It’s in the shop NOW! There is an ENGINE update that causes hesitation and drivability issues! The GM gave me a loaner Camry SE. It drives and shifts wonderfully. The GM is gonna drive my car a bit today and test it out tomorrow too.
@@GirlDad189 So the loaner SE you have...is that a 18/19 year as well? Glad to know you're getting it fixed. I bought mine used with 42k miles...wonder if that's covered under the warranty. Not that paying $300ish to get this fixed would be a deal breaker.
Ben Larkins It a 2019 Camry SE with 15,000 miles. Drives totally different from mine!! No shifting issues at all. I’m not sure if the ENGINE bulletin is for 19 or 18 & 19 because I didn’t ask. It’s FREE so you should check! The bulletin just came out on November 1st. FOUR DAYS AGO
Mike Vance they fixed u trasmision issue ?
Just wanted to thank everyone for their inputs. My 2012 Camry SE had the shudder symptoms going from 35-45MPH. Thanks to this youtube video, I dropped off my car at the dealer this morning. I show them the "Warranty Enhancement Program - ZE5" letter and expect to pickup my car later this afternoon. Was shopping around for a new crossover SUV, torn between the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the Mazda CX-5 Turbo....not anymore....due to the way Toyota took care me. TOYOTA RAV4 IT IS!
I have 2012 camry that I bought from auction had a litle accident which I fixed but Am currently having thesame transmission problem..Pls do you have Any idea if Toyota dealership can also update or fix mine??
Can this still be fixed under warranty on my 2012 Camry SE? Mine has around 117,000 miles and still shutters. I took it to Toyota and they did not fix the problem. They kept it for a few days and in the end said the Carfax reports shows it was already done which I do not believe one bit. I'm still making payments and acceleration is bad especially with all the hills in my area. And it's costing me a fortune in gas money.
I have a 2010 Venza with 124,000 miles, its basically the camry just a SUV. I cant even take it on the highway anymore. It shakes so violently past 60 mph it feels like the tires are gonna come off. When i try to accelerate past 60 it shakes worse. Still have 3 years of payments left and can barely afford basic maintenance for it.
Bad programming can kill even the most reliable of transmission designs.
I just took mine to toyota dealer today. I have to take it back on Tuesday so they can update software and replace torque converter. All of it is covered under this warranty extension
Hey I have the same issue, is the extended warranty for all camry's with this problem? May you give me more information on how it worked, since I do not want to pay of out pocket unless I have to.
@Bert Dahlman Hey , I have the same problem with my 2014 Camry SE. Did you get yours fixed for free recently? I've read some stuff online and they all say the extended warranty ended on Oct 2017.
I’m so glad it’s improved
I have 2012 camry that I bought from auction had a litle accident which I fixed but Am currently having thesame transmission problem..Pls do you have Any idea if Toyota dealership can also update or fix mine??
Toyota have 8 years 150 miles warranty from the day of purchased for 2012 to 2014 Camry. I just dropped my 2012 Camry Se of at a Toyota service center and they gave me a loaner car. My Camry has 6600 miles and had the same issue.

Anthony D. That’s the problem I’m having with my brand new 2019 Camry LE. I’m really worried about it and I’ve got an appointment to take it back to the dealership! Ever since they switched in 2018 to the eight speed from the six speed this has been an issue. Wish I knew about this before I bought it five months ago!
David Well No! I was told after the update is Installed the technician does a test drive to be sure that fixed the issue. So I would call the service manager ASAP!
@@GirlDad189 Please keep me posted. Saw this after the first comment. I'd like to know if that improves anything.
Well good news is i took my 2014 camry in the toyota dealership and they confirmed the shudder so next week they will install new torque converter free of charge to all camry owners from 2012 to 2014 don't wait to get it looked at especially if the dealership fixes it for free the warranty runs out april 2022
Nick Shannon awesome thanks Nick. We have a 2012 LE and it has been stumbling between 40 and 50 mph during regular acceleration but during those speeds it stops if given more gas. We have just under 140,000 so I took a screenshot of your comment and gonna take it to the dealer. Your the best, thanks bro 👍🏽
hi how we know if is been updated?
so is this considered a recall where they fix it for free on the 2012 - 2014 camry
just purchased a 2012 and it's doing that on low RPM
shoud i take mine in to the dealer even if i am not having trans issues to get the update?

I'm past 60k standard warranty but due to the extended torque converter coverage from Toyota warranty ze5 memo they must perform a software update free of charge BEFORE 10/31/2017!! thanks ace just going through the same issue, my 2012 Camry is at the dealership they are replacing the torque converter, they had updated the software in 2014 but i started having issues around 79k miles. Hopefully it will get fixed because i really like my car
elprofesor82 absolutely! I just got my car back last week and the problem is solved. Be sure they kno about the updated ze5 warranty memo. Good luck my friend, love this model of camry! Right from Toyota! "* The Primary Coverage offers warranty enhancement until April 30,2016 with no mileage limitation. ** After the Primary Coverage period ends, the Secondary Coverage is applicable for 8 years from the date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. "
Hey, I am currently having this problem with my camry at 60k miles. They tried to charge me $6k... saying some coolant fluid leaked into the transmission and that is causing the shuddering.
Johnny that sucks I don’t see why they should charge you it is under warranty. I just got my car back and after they supposedly change the torque converter, my car is still having the same issue. I will have to take it back. I’m disappointed at my dealership
I think they are trying to get me. I read up on the ze5 warranty and they didn't even say anything about this warranty when I was there. & wow.. im definitely not going to pay out of pocket for this repair. No way a 60k miles car should be having these problems.
I have a 12 Camry LE that I question. It takes off hard at times and shifts 1st, to like 3rd back to 2nd then to 3rd again
Long shot man.. But did you ever figure out that issue?? I bought a 15 le.. Same thing with gears.. only had it maybe 6 months.. Put maybe 15,000 Miles on it so far.. One oil change at toyota dealer.. after i got it back noticed right away my rpms from the start of ignition where already 200 rpms higher.. from 700 too 900.. was sceptical of the shop after that..
It has to do with the torque converter lockup It’s normal for all Toyota 6 speed automatics that are found in the Camry and RAV4 Even my sister’s 2017 Camry does it just like my 2013 Camry Nothing is wrong with it It’s annoying, but we’ve never had an issue

hi my name is Sal i have a quick question. the software update recall was an actual RECALL FROM TOYOTA? IM ASKING BECAUSE I ALSO OWN A 2013 CAMRY AND IT JUST STARTED GIVING Transmission problems on the gears when it shifts especially when it reaches 40 -45. if so i can take it to the dealer and let them know . please reply as soon as you get a chance thank you .
hi, I'm having the same problem as you. I took it to the dealer and supposedly they fix it. I test drove my car before leaving the dealer and wasn't feeling it right when it hits over 40 it starts shake in the front like when your driving in a bumpy road so Toyota said that because my warranty expire that I would have to pay 1600.00 out of my pocket and i still haven't finished paying off. I've been reading other comment that this is happening to other people and Toyota is refusing to fix this problem because this is from them. let Toyota know that your experiencing this issue because there are a lot more people out there.
Wolf there is a warranty enhancement for this issue which requires replacing the torque converter, the magnets in the transmission pan and recalibrate the ecm. check with your dealer to see if your vehicle still qualifies for the enhancement
Maria Arjona same thing goes for you
Please take a to a Toyota Dealership and tell them to do a software update, if that STILL doesn't fix it then tell them to swap out a torque converter

can i get some more info on this. what does this update really do? and how can i do the update? thanks
you have to goto a dealer for the update, they will update only if you exhibit transmission shudder symptoms and have the U760E transmission. The dealer updates the ECU software so that during light acceleration the transmission does not shudder (lose power)
and if that still didn't fix the problem, they will switch out the torque converter and transaxle. That's what I had my done after the ECM update didn't work...
