I aim is to provide glimpses of various events, countryside walks and scenery (some in 360°) by way of a vicarious experience. Occasionally I produce 3D versions of the videos (for viewing with a VR headset or 3D tv) mostly I publish these on my other UA-cam channel "Isle of Wight in 3D" and provide links within the associated videos on this channel.

2024-10-13 Newtown. Lapwings are back after an absence of a few months I heard the distictive sound and recognised the blurred wing movement so I pointed my camera and sure enough there they were.

Kitesurfers were out in numbers enjoying good conditions at Yaverland a few days ago so I thought I'd film from the top of Culver but by the time I got there there was only one on the water... still I managed to get a clip of him jumping.
Butterflies @ Rylstone Gardens

A recent visit to Rylstone Gardens reminded me that I haven't tried the macro capability of my camera's lens (the zoom capability of which I have often used). So I sat on a bench and set-up my tripod..
Eagles playing hard to find

I tried Brading marshes and Newtown Nature Reserves but no luck in finding any white-tailed eagles only a silhouette of what could be an eagle. Still it's great just to sit in a nature reserve to watch and listen

Tested the Unicorn 360 setup, but wasn't comfortable so back to the drawing board perhaps start off with a more comfortable helmet
Thanks for the video, always interested in DIY board making. I would have liked to see how it held up with repeated jumps. There doesn't seem to be anyone posting the best advise of what to use as a final seal. I'd like to do one, custom paint it and them use a sealant as a final coat that best stands up and possibly adds some strength to the board but retains flex at the same time so there are no sealant cracks as a result of flexing. My guess is to find out what surfboard builders use on wood. Mostly they seem to use fiberglass over foam core which speaks of the strength but surfboards do break. Boards are insanely priced and as the prices climb yearly the cost of living is too. Any pro at this is welcome to reply and appreciated.
Many thanks for your comment Mike John; Here's a more detailed board making video where I included the fiberglassing etc: ua-cam.com/video/k7jUTCPUGmg/v-deo.html Also while I trust the robust strength of 9mm thick marine plywood you've alerted me to the fact that I should state that I don't jump with my boards I'm over 60 and its not a risk worth taking for me I just enjoy cruising and now foiling but I never jump except on unavoidable large waves. I make boards only for myself (as a hobby I'm not a professional board maker) I never sell them here's the others I've made over the last few years: ua-cam.com/video/01UTLWyqq08/v-deo.html
This is brilliant
Thanks you're welcome to wear it if you wish next time I see you on the water, its two 4k cameras each covering 360°x220° then synchronised (the hardest bit) and stitched using software
What are the dimensions and weight of your board? I'm tempted and try making a board.
Hi Pia, I bought a 1.5m long piece of Marine grade plywood for £25, as you can see I then shaped it a little maybe lost a couple of cm in lenghth and I've just weighed it as is with straps etc on the bathroom scales and it came to 5kgs, the whole thing including straps etc came to around £90 approx
Thanks for that! I'm going to have to compare to my ocean rodeo Mako to get an idea of the difference. What was the reason you shaped the tips the way you did?
Ha ha no I wouldn't compete with a mako (but thats the next shape I was going to try next), I looked at these designs www.instructables.com/id/Plywood-kiteboard/ among other webpages and I thought the shape would be good as an alternative to gouging channels along the board on the underside which good boards have as I couldn't achieve that in the available thickness of the plywood (would've taken a lot of work an would've weakened it)..as it is it works it gives a channeling/grip on the trailing edge of the direction of travel.
Thanks, it was certainly exhilirating
wow khalo that looks amazing
