I whisper, “Remain hidden, my fragile friend,
No eyes shall witness your tender, raging soul.”
Whiskey spills upon its azure feathers,
Cigarette smoke veils its timid song,
Bar patrons and prostitutes remain oblivious,
To the bluebird’s silent struggle all along.

Your wings beat against my sternum’s cage,
Yet I pour another drink, inhale the smoke,
Shielding you from a world that cannot engage.
I hear hollow laughter echoing through city alleys,
As I drown your melody in amber flames,
But your memory persists, haunting my nights,
A mother’s pride, a secret desire aflame.
And when the brothel sign flickers its last,
I’ll release you, my feathered companion,
Into the moon-kissed sky, where freedom awaits,
To sing your truth, unburdened by convention.
