I was a friend of Frank Robinson. We met in Golden Gate Park in the late 60's. Frank was a reserved and kind man. I had a fascination with writing and he was a real writer. Frank was a gay man and I was not. But, as I traveled in my lost youth, Frank bailed me numerous times. I was hopping on freight trains around the country and found myself in trouble in Mayor Dailey's Chicago. I called Frank and asked him for a few bucks to save me. He sent $50 to the Playboy headquarters for me to pick up. With that $50 I was able to make it back to San Francisco. Frank was a very kind and honest man. I used to go to his place in the Castro, I think it was on 21st St.. He bought his place after selling the rights to Irwin Allen for the Towering Inferno script. Frank was always working upstairs writing. As you came into his house, to the left was his collection of vintage comics. To make a long story short, Frank was a deep and kind man. Frank was a true writer. I miss him and I honor him. Rest in peace,.... Smitty,.....

This is very sad news to me. When I was 7 years old, My mom took me to the whole earths festival in Davis California. I saw primo dancing in the middle of a circle of people and I decided to join in. The Davis enterprise took a picture of us together. In response to dawnnaYT: You must be confusing the current version of the band Jefferson Starship with Paul Kantner and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. The one with Paul Kantner performs music from the Airplane and all of the Jefferson Starship music and music from the solo music of Paul and Grace(1970s) and Marty Balin and other members except the ones with Mickey Thomas. The one with Mickey Thomas obviously performs music from what he did with the Jefferson Starship and the Starship(not to be confused with Jefferson Starship) and other music he performed in other bands(Elvin Bishop, etc.). So to answer your question this band you are talking about is the Jefferson Starship, not the Starship and they are 2 completely different bands. So no, the Jefferson Starship does not need to stop covering Airplane songs since Paul and Marty are the people who wrote, recorded, and sang those songs and it is within their right to do so. This is not some tribute band even though they have different musicians and different lineup(not the original one) who are also veteran musicians in their own right who have also played in different famous rock bands from 30 to 50 years in the music business/music industry. Why don't you go ask Mickey Thomas to "cover such lightweight commercialized pop travesty songs" as Starship is a band that is "pop goes the weasel" and the "weasel goes pop" which is that Mickey Thomas is such a weasel. This is not the band with Mickey Thomas. So get your facts straight! Go figure! Why don't you go on the youtube videos and video posts of the Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and post your comments there and elsewhere! This is the wrong band you are referring to! This is not the right one to post your comments on since you are confusing the 2 bands! Please go elsewhere and post them comments and do everyone a service by not confusing or misleading people!

The one crowning moment of the song is the so-called "nose" solo. Put two drumsticks on either side of your nose, and start snorting!
