    Is there a way to show each bill entry checked off when you have paid it?

    • @MichelleSemones
      @MichelleSemones Рік тому

      Hi Elizabeth! Not exactly. But, what you could do is change the color of the appointment entry once you’ve paid the bill. That way you would have a visual cue of what you have paid and what you haven’t. You could also set them up as repeating tasks instead of appointments and then you could check them off. I hope that helps!

      @@MichelleSemones Great ideas! Definitely solve the problem. Thank you! FYI: I also did some searching and found Google Calendar Event Checker 1.6.4 - once installed as an extension to CHROME, it checks the "event" off and shows it as a strike through. I'm using it and like it a lot.

    Don’t save cash or if you do trade it in for gold & silver immediately cash you lose by saving it each year through inflation. Saving in gold or silver will hedge against that inflation and will actually grow your savings over time rather then saving a $1 in five years that $1 is still a dollar it just buys you less do to the cost of goods going up buy one ounce of silver five years ago and you would have paid $12 to $15 a ounce sell it five years later for $25 your protecting your purchasing power through gold and silver which has been the medium of exchange for thousands of years since the beginning essentially. Hope you understand what I’m saying god bless

      Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I get what you're saying, and I understand where precious metals can sit in an overall investment portfolio, but I can't get on board with having all cash in gold and/or silver. Especially for someone's general savings. Putting everything into precious metals make them too illiquid for my tastes and sensibilities and stress level! But, thank you again for taking the time to comment!

    We (I) spent years and years believing that debt was just a normal part of life. More life, more debt, simple as that. Finally we had enough. Thank goodness it never got to the point that we were not able to make payments but we had no money one day after payday. So our thinking was that we would take debt to the grave but finally one day something happened, could have been really bad but turned out to be just enough to scare the wits out of us. Suddenly though we rethought the whole money thing and considered the possibility that we could maybe get control over our finances. I remember saying to Sue "we are going to do this, we are going to pay off everything and start saving". It was sort of like warming up an engine in the dead of winter, slow at first but once it started heating up it ran great. So the 6th mistake we must avoid is not believing that we will be successful. Set the goal, craft the plan, set the date, get working on it believing that you will cross the finish line. It was an overwhelming feeling, that moment in time when we finally got all the paper on the kitchen table, sorted it out and added it all up. It was like "oh my this is impossible". It actually was impossible...until it wasn't. Great video Michelle!

    • @MichelleSemones
      @MichelleSemones Рік тому

      Hello Thomas! Sometimes that's exactly what it takes: you just get FED UP living paycheck to paycheck and DECIDE that things are gonna change - no matter what! And, thank you for the feedback. You are exactly right - the sixth mistake is not believing we will be successful! I'm going to do a short and add that one - in your name! I have a friend who is a life coach and she is always saying "we can only believe up to the edge of our self-image". Believing we can change our behavior only results when we change our self-image and, you're right, that is a slow "warm up". Because change is so hard. Thank you so much for the comment - and my best to you and Sue! ~Michelle

    Buy a large thermos flask and a small one. Boil a full kettle to make a hot drink to put in the small flask to take to work with you. Pour the remaining water into the large thermos flask to use for other hot drinks or cooking. Using both thermos flasks this way helps you save on the following 1. Electric ..because you are not boiling the kettle every time you need hot drinks. 2. You are not spending money on a hot drink when you are out as you take the small flask with you. 3. When you need to cook something in hot water you won't need to use as much fuel to heat the water as you already have it in the large thermos flask.

    I'm in the UK and have used a combination of the snowball and avalanche method to cut down on debt. I switched jobs, don't use credit cards at all, rarely use a debit card and buy in bulk to save paying higher amounts during inflation times. Now I'm using the tornado method to pay off the last debt. So far I'm on track and hope to be completely debt free by Christmas 2023. I don't go on holidays, haven't had a holiday away from home for over 30 years and don't really miss them either. I rarely eat out or get takeaways, stopped smoking cigarettes as it got way too expensive, don't drive for medical reasons so don't have to worry about car expenses. Getting into debt has made me more frugal and now I budget a lot better than I used to. I know where my money is going now, whereas before I didn't. It was so easy to get into debt by tapping a piece of plastic without thinking. Now cash is king all the way for me as it makes me think more before I buy anything and I won't pay full price unless it's a necessity rather than a want. I don't want to get into debt again as it's stressful and hurts like hell. I will continue being as frugal as I can and once I pay off my final debt can save more towards my retirement. I've got about 16 years left to save towards my retirement and am hopeful I can achieve a reasonable amount to live comfortably in my old age.

    • @MichelleSemones
      @MichelleSemones Рік тому

      Samantha, that is amazing. What a journey you've had! I agree, thoughtful spending and prioritizing saving is the best way to meet our financial goals. If you've been able to pay off all of your debt and stick to your journey so well, I'm sure you will be able to save enough to have a wonderfully comfortable retirement. Here's to you being debt free by December 2023! You can do it! And, please, do let me know when it happens. I want to celebrate with you! Until then, I'm over here in California cheering you on! Thank you again for sharing your journey. :-) Best, ~Michelle

    Where Dave r fails well one of the many is factoring in weird nuances Of billing. So as an example I have a 800$ medical bill with a small chill office who tbh doesn’t give a crap. I also have a $100 bill that went to collections in a month and a half. Yes. That’s what’s happening these days . Far far less time bills exist before sold to collections its gross but I digress. I’m not attacking the 800 when the dr office says meh pay what you can when the collections is after my ass for services rendered like two seconds ago. So no a militant snowball doesn’t work In that example. I mean yes collections bill is smaller but what I mean is it would have penalty and my big bill doesn’t

    • @MichelleSemones
      @MichelleSemones Рік тому

      I completely agree! If the big bill doesn't have a late fee and the person you're paying is chill, but the little bill does have a late fee, I would totally pay the bill which might add a late fee. Sounds like you're working your plan out pretty well! Good luck!!

    I hope it doesn't matter that I'm not a woman! I have been on the fence about reading I will teach you to be rich. I have a few of the popular books on getting rid of debt and I figured sooner or later I would get that book but haven't yet. I'm going to take a pass on Smart women finish rich because no matter what I will always be a dumb guy LOL! Now, to Get rich carefully. I never ever thought that I would ever grow up and see the need to read a book on investing. Due to circumstances beyond my control I find myself (and spouse) about 3 months from being totally, 100% debt free, a situation I never thought possible. My spouse and I have money going into 401s, 403s, an IRA and Roth IRAs and should have in the new year 2023 maybe $1000 a month to put somewhere so I'm thinking that I need to learn what is available so that I can ask a few semi-intelligent questions about where to park those monies. So giving Get Rice Carefully some serious consideration. Good video, thanks.

    Another male here. One of the big life questions in my mind is "why is it that almost all of the "get out of debt" or "how to get on a budget and stick with it", why are there so many youtubes by the ladies and very few by men? Ok for me I'm not going to make videos for public consumption because no one wants to see my face on their screen. Anyway, we (my spouse and I) started our get out of debt push in Dec 2017. We were doing fantastic but I got stupid in Sept 2020 and bought a new truck. I needed a new vehicle, I didn't need a brand new truck. We made slightly bigger than required payments (+$200/month) right from the start Oct 2020. Bumped that up to +$300/month December 2021 all this time we were taking care of a few other debts outstanding. In March of this year 2022 we bumped it up again to double monthly payments, in July triple payments. The balance as of Sept 2022 is $10k. In April we had paid off all of our debt except the truck. Here we are in Sept and we simply want to get this paid off before Jan 1st so that is the time line, the target. I have been scheming and planning and just trying to find a solution to paying off $10k in 3 months without destroying our savings account. In the past we have used a combo of the snowball and avalanche and being on a budget and paying cash and being frugal has become almost second nature but there is room for improvement and so we are just going to focus like a laser on this and one way or another finish off this debt in 2022. A big order because we have already paid off $85K in 4 years. In the two years before that (we were not focused at that time) we killed off another $22K so over $120k in 6 years. I really really really want to get all this paid off. Once we started becoming serious in 2018 we would have said we are using the snowball because we had 5 credit cards but actually either a snowball or avalanche would have been the same order. In looking for ideas and trying to think up what could we do to accelerate payment of this debt I sort of had settled on what I now know after watching this video is what we are going to use, it's called the modified tomato method. Wrecks the debt but saves the crops! Thanks great video!

      Thomas, What an amazing journey you and your wife have had! I am so impressed with your dedication and commitment to make your situation better. Big, big congratulations to you both! I have no doubt at all that you will wipe the rest of that debt out by the end of the year. Now, you have so much money to redirect towards other areas of your financial life. I am so excited for you and your wife and the kind of financial wellness you are both going to be able to build for your future. Really, I am a little bit in tears at all you've done and all you can now do to set yourselves up for the future. Congratulation, you two have done what so many are even afraid to contemplate. I am sending a big hug your way!! BTW, guys are always welcome to my channel! Feel free to visit any time, lol! I started making these videos during the pandemic after a couple women friends of mine were laid off and were completely unprepared financially. Then they pulled in a few of their female friends. In helping them out, I realized how so much of their situation could have been fixed with basic financial education and support. Which was something I felt I could provide! Women have such shame and fear around money because they think they "aren't good at math". As you and your wife have found, it's a little bit of math, but it's mostly having the courage and confidence to stick to the plan. I am hoping that in some small way, my channel can help make that happen. Thank you again for sharing your journey. I sincerely believe that someone will come along and read your story and it will help them. Best to you and your wife, ~Michelle

I can "hear" the joy in your post and I am so, so happy for you both. You were courageous and did the hard thing. I am sure you made sacrifices along the way to your goal, but look what you've accomplished. Please give yourself a pat on the back for me, you so deserve it. Thank you so very much for letting me know about your journey, you have absolutely made my day. I hope 2023 brings you both much success and happiness! Best, Michelle

    This video was empowering for me, thanks. I like how you said you get to decide when you want the debt paid off. My payment schedule end dates get messed up if I skip a payment so I think your mindset will help me. (BTW you look really pretty!)
