The eyepieces that came with my Sky-Watcher Explorer 130 - Review
Thank you! I just borrowed a telescope kit from my astronomy club and have been confused as hell trying to figure out how to use this! May your skies be clear, your socks warm, and your pillow cold on both sides :)
Hi. Thank you broo, I didn t knew how to turn on the red dot thanks to you I learned. I think I aligned I l see tonight, it just arived to me my 127 AZ. Cheers from Romania!
How close is your eye to the back end of the red dot finder no one every mentions where you put your eye. The dot moves around depending where my eye is. and do you use both eyes or one. I can’t see a red dot for the life of me and it’s has a new battery. I saw one a yesterday and now it’s disappeared. I’ve spent hours trying to align the scope and the finder and this red dot is going to cause my demise,,,any minute, someone HELP please
Hi sorry for the late reply. When i use use the red dot i am actually about half way down the scope, sometimes 1 both eyes sometimes just the 1. It could be that the red dot is that far out (too far left/right/up/down) that ot isnt insight. This hobby really can be annoying at times but so rewarding when you eventually find something/anything out there. Also i havent been able to make any more videos as where i now live i am surrounded by trees and not having any spare time to go out with the scope.
@@astroamateuruk thank you very much for replying,. Much appreciated. The battery wasn’t sitting properly in the finder which was why I couldn’t see a red dot at all, I ended up putting a piece of cardboard on top of the battery to push it down and then screwing the cover on. I’ve managed to calibrate finder and scope and can use it during the day. I’m practising finding all the various knobs by feel. Can’t wait to see the rings of Saturn. Wish me luck. It’s a pity you can’t use your scope, your videos were very helpful. Makes me realise as a complete beginner how you forget just how little a novice user knows and understands. I watched 8 different channels on finderscopes and not one said how to look thru the red dot one. They mentioned using two eyes but no one said how far back your eye is from the eye piece. The way mine is constructed you can’t get your eye right on it anyway. The instruction booklet was very basic and talked more about the science of how the galaxy rotates than how to use the telescope. I’ll stop rambling. Go well and “ Sursum spectante” 🥂🦘
I just bought a celestron powerseeker 60eq, but it's missing eye pieces. Could you please tell me if omni eyepieces are compatible with it?
yes i think so, as far as i am aware the 60eq would need 1.25" diameter eyepieces just like my skywatcher, try 10mm 15mm 25mm eyepieces 👍
Hello dear! I'm interested in that camera but I'm confused! What is the longest exposure time? 1000ms or 30sec? Because I've read somewhere that there has been an update...
Yes im sorry i dont really have an answer to your question hopefully you have found your answer elswhere by now (i dont use my telescooe anywhere near what i used to do, i moved house and im now surrounded by trees).
Window frame annoying

Can I use that to put on my Toy rifle?
Not sure, it would depend on the fixing.
Hi, can you tell me what I am doing wrong if I can’t see my red dot at all? It’s switched on and I can see it is on but not in the scope?
You wont see the dot in the scope. What you do is point the scope at a target off in the distance during the day is best, using a low magnification eyepiece such as a 25mm, (something solid that wont move, a singpost/chimney stack/tv aerial etc) then adjust the red dot up/down left/right so that the dot is on the same target as the scope. Then repeat with a say a 10mm eyepiece, checking that the scope and red dot are pointing at the same target, if they are then well done you have aligned tje red dot to your scope if not then keep making adjustments to the red dot until the dot and scope are pointing at the exact same spot. Hope this helps.
@@astroamateuruk I can’t see a red dot when I look thru my finder. And yes it has a new battery and is turned on
Hi I'm new to telescope I've got a 25mm in my celestron now I've seen a osmi celestron lence 40mm will that make things closer thanks
Hi no, it will make things look further away, the higher the number is the lower the magnification will be. So try a 15mm & a 10mm to get closer.
@astroamateuruk thanks for that I asked some one else too and said a 12mm or 10mm be better to get a closer shot
Are those better than the Plossl or Supper Plossl 50-52 Degree delivered with a Telescope ?
Omni plossl are good, the higher number degree will give you more of a view of an object. Usually the more these things cost the better quality they are. (you get what you pay for)
Aren't the SvBony eyepieces with 66 or 68 degrees better then this one for the same price ?
possibly yes, i havent had the opportunity to try one out.
Thank you so much!!! Easy when YOU know how.
Thanks for watching 👍
How come you havent done more Vids ? The last one was with the fitting of the motor. I thought you were going to take shots of the moon and planets.
I was but a few things happened that just got in the way including a house move, now surrounded by trees.
Thanks for your reply. I now have got my very first scope. I got a Skywatcher 250pds, and also a NEQ 6 pro. But up till now I have know idea of how to set it up 🤣 . But I'm sure I'll figure it out at sometime soon. I know I need how to learn a lot before I can start taking photos. Anyway thanks again for the reply. Take care.
way to many wigs
Have you ever unscrewed it to a 1.5 to test it on anything? I was wondering if the views work as a 1.5
I have tried using it as a 1.5 but I didn't think much of it, seemed pointless
How do the planets look with that barlow?
Ok but there will be better out there, i recommend spend a little more money on a better one if you can, if not it's OK for the money
с каким телескопом снято было ? ато откуда стоук хроматизма изза окуляра так ?
why does mine never line up with the red dot? like I have to mark how low it needs to be for me to see the moon or a star
You need to adjust the red dot finder, during daylight point the telescope at an object in the distance (something stationary, not moving) then adjust the red dot finder to point at the same object, start with a low magnification eyepiece at first, adjust the red dot finder, then change the eyepiece for one with more magnification then again adjust the red dot finder so that they are both pointing at the same object.
how do i make my telescope go up and down?
If it is a manual telescope then you would use the slow motion controls and adjust with them
There are telescopes that have motors to do that job too but they usually cost a significant amount more
Just bought the same telescope and just about to buy the motor drive, just checked your channel and saw you're from north west! I am as well pal, where abouts you located?
I'm in Rochdale 👍
Thank you so much for this video really hard to find stuff for complete beginners
You're very welcome!
Cheers at last a no nonsense guide. Top man
Glad it helped
Always make sure a window frame is blocking have your finder's view.
Obviously NOT, if you look closely the red dot is not on the frame is it
Do these work for live viewing (no DSLR in focuser)?
Looking through by eye ? Yes they seem to do
where did you buy the Barlow and eyepieces?
The barlow lens was an ebay purchase, the 15mm I bought from Harrison telescopes online. The 9mm TMB eyepiece I think I got off Amazon
@@astroamateuruk can I borrow just 2 minutes of your time?I'll try to keep it short. Recently I decided to buy a Telescope. Being a complete beginner, after hours spent on various forums and UA-cam videos I set my eyes upon one: the Skywatcher 130/900 EQ2. It seemed perfect: good enough to see the moon and planets in great detail, capable of DSO's too, not too bulky, easy enough for a beginner to use and most importantly not too expensive; being my budget pretty small (~300€/$). Before I go on; yes, I know I could get a lager dobson for the same price, but I reckon an EQ would fit me best in my situation. Having said that, Soon enough I came across people saying that anything shorter than 150 mm in aperture is useless, thus they recommended the Skywatcher 150/650. As I began to feel confused about which focal length would be better (900/650); some started to say that anything beneath an EQ3 mount is garbage and that an EQ5 would be best. They therefore recommended a 200/1000 EQ5. Needless to say, this is but a pipedream for me: too expensive. What I am asking is: what do you recommend? A 150/650 EQ3 or a 130/900 EQ2 (maybe I can find an EQ3)? Take into consideration that I am not afraid to modify the mount if it comes as too wobbly, and that yes; I should strive to save as much as I can as I would then have to spend an additional ~150€/$ on better eyepieces, a Barlow lens and a moon filter Thanks for the answer on where you have buyed the eyepieces.
@@lorisperfetto6021 What you have said sounds very familiar/similar to my experience in the hobby. You are correct in you get what you pay for, I wish I had the spare cash to buy an eq5 and an 8" aperture scope. What let's this skywatcher 130 down in my opinion is the mount/tripod. Yes if you can save the money to buy better that is what I would do, you can buy better quality eyepieces as you can always use them on other telescopes.
@@astroamateuruk thank you really much. I think I'll go with the one you've got, or maybe a 6'' dobson. I don't know if the 150/650 is worth it. If it comes as too wobbly I'll modify the mount. Thank you once again!
Thanks 😉
Thank you for not using difficult words that I can't understand :D
if you unscrew the bottom part having a1.5x, can you screw this part to an asi camera? thanks
Im not sure about an ASI as i have never used one but it can be screwed onto the SV205 from SvBony. So maybe yes 👍🙂
If it’s standard thread then Yh
I have a skywatcher Explorer I wanted to upgrade my eyepiece what one would you say is best for planets I was thinking 8mm to get a nice view
I think all Celestron ep's are good. Generally the more you spend the better it will be. If you want cheap then maybe the same as the one in this video but 10, 8 or 6mm 👍
@@astroamateuruk wouldn't 6mm be blurry on planets I got the skywatcher Explorer 130x900
@@spacewatcher968 yes it would be blurry with a 6
@@astroamateuruk ok I've been trying to get 8 or preferably a 10 for looking at planets
@@spacewatcher968 the lowest number have/highest power is a TMB planetary 9mm, seems OK but there will be better out there
eye relief........ lol!
I've found that over time that soft foam tends to disintegrate. I made a custome case with plucked foam as you have and found after a while the foam started to crumble. The case that came with my eyepieces also had custom cut foam and after a year or so began to disintegrate and left foam dust and particles all over the lenses. I'm making a new case with a stiff foam and will see how that goes, otherwise I'll make a custom wooden inlay with compartments and cover them all with felt flocking.
That sounds like a good idea, similar to gun/rifle case foam a bit stiffer would be good 👍
Nice Review

High mate just wondering how you got on with your tmb 9mm.thinking of getting one only 38 quid?
It's OK for the money 👍 I haven't had time to use it much lately
Can you move RA and DEC axis manually while the motor is attached? Or you need to remove it before pointing to a target?
If you open the clutches yes 👍
I went out in the garden for the first time with my explorer and saw what I thought was a very bright star.i used a 20mm svbony 68 degree eyepiece and it was Jupiter it was east to southeast.i even saw three moons.can’t believe my luck!
Well done 👏 Jupiter is my favourite 👍😎
Hello, I bought a 15mm OMNI from Aliexpress and they can't be good, just because of their weight. I have other good quality PLOSSL eyepieces and the difference is very noticeable. Now if you buy the original, it sure will be good. An astronomical greeting.
I agree 👍
Hello. I bought a 5mm TMB and sold it, since I wasn't very convinced. Especially those bought on Amazon or Aliexpress. In the same focal length I prefer an orthoscopic eyepiece. Although for tastes the colors. Thank you very much.
The Barlow lens is 21 pounds from China but from anywhere in the uk its40-70 pounds.presume it’s the same quality!
The one I have feels OK quality in my hand. Never had one of these from a reputable store to compare with but they do cost a lot more
It’s not on eBay it’s like £27
@@hakman239 I bought mine from eBay for 23 quid!
@@Stephen-gp8yi i got mine about £10 from China
I ordered a 15mm fully coated plossl eyepiece off eBay for 16.99 plus 3 quid postage.I’m wondering why it was so cheap.they normally go for 30-40 quid.usually if it’s to good to be true it normally is!
Yes always best to buy from a reputable store 👍
Is the Barlow lens you get with the explorer also multi coated?
Can't remember, I will check when I get home tonight 👍
I tried to find out but nowhere online that says if it is or not 😕
I’m a novice and after a few migraines deciding what to get I ordered the skywatcher explorer eq130m.is that the same motor?I may need some advice in the near future hope you don’t mind✌️
As far as I know it is the same 👍
Do you think it’s the best telescope for around 250 quid?was looking at the skyhawk 1145p but this one seems better.tbh I’m a total novice though!
Hi Stephen, The Skyhawk 1145p has a 114mm aperture, but does that have a go-to mount ? The 130 has 16mm more aperture so would collect a little more light but is a fully manual telescope whereas a 'go-to' actually goes to the target if set up correctly (polar aligned). If I was to start over again would I have this telescope 🤔 I would probably save a little more to get better. I hope this helps with your journey into Astronomy, and thanks for watching & commenting 👍 😎 (I'm still a beginner too) Clear Skies 👍👍
@@astroamateuruk thanks think I will go with the 130m.seems better cheapest I could see was 259.money well spent✌️
I have the 5mm TMB PII and I do not like it,...it is much to glary for me on the Jupiter and Saturn, it gives me magnification of 165x in my 127mm refractor. But it was Ok on the moon. It wasn't dew or sky haze from moisture in the atmosphere. Do you notice this with that EP? I know its a different FL than mine...just curious. Thank you.
You are correct, the moon looked OK, Saturn & Jupiter a little bit glary. There are better out there but cost more. Thanks for watching & commenting 👍
@@astroamateuruk Thank you for your reply, I'm considering the AT Paradigm 5mm or something in the 4- 4.5mm range. Looking forward to more reviews.
Hi mate, just subbed do you still have the scope? I just bought a one on Gumtree yesterday for £100 with other lenses and filters, moon / Light Came with some SLR mounts but I just want to use my phone. What mount did you get? Also there Is an extra lens Meade Series 4000 40mm Super Plossl Lens? Total noob as you can tell, but the moon is my first target!

£100 for that sounds good 👍

@@astroamateuruk Did the Better quality barlow make a big difference?
I own all of the Celestron Omni eyepieces (4,6,9,12,15,32,and40) All of them are great. (I initially purchased all of the Omni eyepieces because I purchased the Omni 2X Barlow - the Omni 2X Barlow is great for 31.30 USD you get a 2X Barlow and a 1.5 Barlow in one - The bottom unscrews and you can screw onto any 1.25 eyepiece.) Other Plossl eyepieces I own and would recommend: SVBONY 32mm and 25mm(there are 2 different SVBONY Plossl 25mm pieces on Amazon -- pay attention to the FOV. The all black on on the SVBONY store page is 40 degree FOV. Search for SVBONY 25mm Plossl eyepiece - you'll see the high gloss and black color 48 degree FOV for 16.74 USD) Gosky 6, 12.5, and 20 Plossl set - 52 FOV Price comparison: SVBONY 32mm 29.99 USD Omni 32mm 44.40 USD I like and enjoy all of my eyepieces. I'm not sponsored by Celstron, SVBONY, or Gosky - just giving information to fellow stargazers.
How to replace battery
There is a tab toward the front underside that you can pull off, the battery is just in there 👍
@@astroamateuruk I still don’t see that tab 😢
I like the 15mm because it has better eye relief then the fancy tele vue 15, so the Omni is more comfortable to use.
