Other Side Of Town (Solo Cover)
Here's one from December 20th - Steve Earle's Other Side Of Town - two chords and the truth.
OTHER SIDE OF TOWN
When I'm sad and blue
And I'm feeling all alone
There's a place that I go to
That no one knows
Where no matter what I do
Won't nobody put me down
That's why I'm going to
The other side of town
On the other side of town
Where the sun don't ever shine
Everybody walks around
With a shadow cross their minds
When that midnight train rolls by
And they hear that lonesome sound
They just hang their heads and cry
On the other side of town
Well it isn't very far
And it's not that hard to find
You just follow all the other lonely souls
Take a walk down lonesome lane
'Til you see the dead end sign
And your broken heart will tell you where to go
To the other side of town
Where the sun don't ever shine
Everybody walks around
With a shadow cross their minds
When that midnight train rolls by
And they hear that lonesome sound
They just hang their heads and cry
On the other side of town
So if you've find someone
Who won't ever let you down
Hurry home before the sun goes down
No matter what you do
Don't let night fall like a shroud
And catch you on the other side of town
On the other side of town
Where the sun don't ever shine
Everybody walks around
With a shadow cross their minds
When that midnight train rolls by
And they hear that lonesome sound
They just hang their heads and cry
On the other side of town
OTHER SIDE OF TOWN

Ellis Unit One (Solo Cover)

With the advent of a second Trump administration there's a new political will to ramp up executions in the US. If things persist on their freakish trajectory can the monetization of public executions be far behind? ELLIS UNIT ONE - Steve Earle's great anti-death penalty song about death row. For the factual background of Ellis Unit see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellis_Unit On this piece I'm trying ...
Flying Over Water (Solo Cover)

Sometimes you just have to turn it up. Isbell's FLYING OVER WATER from the "Southeastern" album. This is a new version of the video with remixed audio. The previous version has been deleted so to minimize confusion. FLYING OVER WATER From the sky, we look so organized and brave Walls that make up barricades and graves Daddy's little empire, built by hands and built by slaves From the sky, we lo...
I'm Still In Love With You (Solo Cover)

Another Steve Earle love song - I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU, from the album "The Mountain" with the Del McCoury band backing Steve - excellent album. I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU I didn't know You'd be in this place tonight Then again I thought you might Now I don't know what to do Does it show When my poor heart skips a beat Each and every time we meet 'Cause I'm still in love with you There you ...
Can't Let My Ex Equal My Why (Solo)

An original from many years back - a country breakup song with a twist. I CAN'T LET MY EX EQUAL MY WHY Algebraic notation was never my specialty Our love was such a sensation That it squared and rooted me But a standard deviation resulted in goodbye And I can’t let my ex equal my why Our means were above average but our ends diversified We plotted points; we drew our lines - It was no piece of ...
These Days (Solo Cover)

THESE DAYS, Jackson Browne's classic song - an early one in his long and productive career. What's remarkable about this song is that it deals in such a retrospective way with loss and regret, yet Jackson wrote it when he was only SIXTEEN years old. THESE DAYS Well, I've been out walking I don't do that much talking these days These days These days I seem to think a lot About the things that I ...
DELIA'S GONE (Solo Cover)
Переглядів 5121 день тому
DELIA'S GONE Many people might think of American folk music as a collection of gentle love songs and such - and there are plenty of those - but overall that characterization would really be quite far from the truth. It is actually repeat with songs about betrayal, treachery, theft, murder and haunting. In this one we have at least murder and haunting with some implied betrayal and treachery. l'...
Drunkards Daughter (Solo Cover)

DRUNKARD'S DAUGHTER - A great song by Diana Jones from her "Museum Of Appalachia Recordings" album from the Summer of 2013. If you've not heard Diana'a work on this and her other albums, it's a real treasure. Sung from the point of view of a young woman, it tells the timeless story of how our histories tend to repeat themselves, even though that may be the last thing that we consciously desire....
Goodbye (Solo Cover)

Few people can write a self critical love song tinged with regret and tragedy like Steve Earle and this song is a great example. "Goodbye" - from the masterpiece of an album Train A Comin. "Train a Comin' is the fifth studio album by Steve Earle (his first in five years), released in 1995. In addition to Earle, it features Peter Rowan, Norman Blake, Roy Huskey, and Emmylou Harris. The album was...
The Magician (Solo Cover)

"The Magician" - one of Isbell's earlier songs, but one I have always liked and related to. THE MAGICIAN You watch every move And call it slide of hand You know, it's what I do But never who I am, never who I am Started on the street With cards and dollar bills Shuffling my feet But never could be still, never could be still And I am an orphan man but ain't we all? I can make myself disappear I...
Cover Me Up (Solo Cover)

"Cover Me Up", perhaps Isbell's best known and most often covered tune, a modern classic. COVER ME UP A heart on the run Keeps a hand on a gun Can't trust anyone I was so sure What I needed was more Tried to shoot out the sun The days when we raged, we flew off the page Such damage was done But I made it through, 'cause somebody knew I was meant for someone So, girl, leave your boots by the bed...
Oh Cumberland (Solo Cover)
Переглядів 6421 день тому
The song Oh Cumberland was written by Matraca Berg and Gary Harrison and first appeared on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's classic album Will The Circle Be Unbroken. But for some reason the version I am referencing here is not that version but rather one I heard on a country sampler cd I picked up somewhere long ago. I cannot remember now who performed it on that release, but it's a great song in ...
Bird On A Wire (Solo Cover)

BIRD ON A WIRE Like a bird on the wire Like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free Like a worm on a hook Like a knight from some old fashioned book I have saved all my ribbons for thee If I, if I have been unkind I hope that you can just let it go by If I, if I have been untrue I hope you know it was never to you Oh, like a baby, stillborn Like a beast with his horn I hav...
River (Solo Cover)

Another Isbell penned favorite "River". The album version is basically piano-centered so this is a folkier interpretation. What I especially admire about this song is that it is a complete American short story in less than four minutes (just over three here) - a story of lawlessness and murder steeped in the Christian imagery of baptism, sin and salvation. 'Gotta love it. RIVER The river is my ...

Michael Redding I actually have listened to a lot of his stuff for a couple years now. I met and saw him when he did a performance at McDaniel College in 2016. I like that studio version a lot too! I’ve been listening to it on SoundCloud for a while, it’s so gorgeous.
@@Hank49 Michael I am so sad. I cannot find this song on SoundCloud anymore and when I click the link it doesn't access it either.

the mandolin is groovy AF TOO!!
Great finger-stylings awesome song, thanks for sharing !!
keep up the good work
How did you record this?
Thank you for asking! This was recorded live as we usually do it, at one of our get-together jam sessions. On this track, the only electronic signal is the bass which is run through a BBE guitar processor before going in to a bass amplifier and then lined-out to an analog Mackie mixing board. All other signals are also going in to the same analog mixer - a total of nine open mics picking up acoustic instruments and vocals. The percussion is rendered over two of those nine open mics placed in a somewhat more secured space, audio-wise - a makeshift drum booth that is not entirely discreet but way better than nothing. The stereo mix from the analog board is fed into a real-time CD recorder, in this case a real dinosaur, the venerable Tascam CD-RW4U. Post recording, the tracks are ripped from the CD into a Windows box running Audition and other audio software. There, I EQ and otherwise enhance them with various audio plugins before posting.
While we are playing and recording, we are all in headphones - there is no non-acoustic room sound.
Awesome! Very warm sound, roots music as should be.
Much appreciated, sir.
Sounds good!
Great sound! I love that tune. Always great to hear guys still playing JLL!!!!
Gorgeous song & imagery. I'd expect nothing less from Robert Darlington. Hope to hear this on your next solo recording project
A good one that should be on the Loose Cannon greatest hits album.
Nice my man. Nice!
Love your cover!!! You folks sure can pick a tune!!
i been doing this tune since i first saw jesse in t.o.in the early 70's .a nice rendition guys..
Not warm today! Around freezing with wind gusts of 50mph.
is it warm back there ? you got it goin' ON
This is so cool...a classic...lol
My first crude video attempt with the iphone4 - the mic is impressive, methinks.
wow thanks a lot!!! :) I'll work on it for a while and hopefully come up with a video sometime soon :) Keep rocking you're awesome!!!
Basic chords are G, E7, A(7), D7 for the verse. In the "I made it to my hiding place...." part - G, G7, C, C# dim; G E7 A7 A7 G Chorus - C7 (or 13), G, G7, G, E7, A7, D7, G Consider using some jazz shell chords as substitutions for the E7 and D7 (mostly). Use 9th chords changing to 7(flat9) chords. 'Hope this helps.
thats awesome!!! I've been looking for the tabs for a long time...would you have them by any chance?
