I am an old school guy, who plays with trains in OpenTTD. I love to build busy networks and then ruin it with crash and missing signals. I started to stream because I couldn't find the playstyle I like. It is co-op like not exactly that. Look around and see for yourself! Hit me up on discord.
All OpenTTD Settings to fall asleep
I am going through almost all the option in the settings menu. There is a few I have no clue about, adress them and show them if possible. While you can fall asleep to my very monoton voice. :D

What is the best artificial intelligence in the game?
@@joaolucao_168 none are good, but depends on what's ur goal?
As tools approach 900 in Europe train a Pioneer for 1200.
@@PaddyMacWorld could have mentioned that, but it is kinda obvious.
I believe you have to lose at least one colony and win it back to win the war otherwise the war goes on for ever. I always leave one colony without additional fort/fortress so it's easier to recapture
No, you don't have to lose any colony.
@Gil-games oh well it must have been a coincidence then. I was fighting the king forever even when the report showed his army was depleted as soon as I lost and recaptured a colony the war ended, since then I've always let them have one on purpose. I don't often get through to to the war part of it, I'm too busy trying to play the perfect early game.
Gilica, quite funny. About that unit limit... if you reach the limit of (probably) 256 units on the board then no units will be created. 8-bit numbering of the units on the board is to blame. The solution is to keep the colonists busy within the colonies, ie. assign them to shops even though they may not produce anything useful anymore. Thus number space for new units on the board is released and you can create new dragoons or artillery. Actually, that also means that you probably overdid with your preparations for the revolution and have too many units :). I like the way you started this game. I would never guess that you may do such a trick with tools. A few years into the game and you have thousands of gold. Seems so ridiculous when I think about how I struggled to get gold the standard way... One thing that comes to my mind and I'm not sure of it. When artillery is used to attack from within a fort/fortress then I think it gains the attack bonus. So that would mean that one can attack King's forces with artillery and not only cavalry. This in turn would mean that you can buy artillery (by buying hammers on the colony screen, not in the European View) in bulk and start the revolution much earlier because you'd still have the means necessary to win. Then you might buy artillery if needed because during revolution you get a lot of money. In any case, good job and it's a pity that one usually can't use the tool trick in the real life. But I will remember about it and try to employ it. That's a good trick. Afterall strategic games should teach us something to be used in real life...
Yeah, I probably overdid the prep, but it was hard not to. I have a tips and tricks video too. And what is that "Gilica"???
@@Gil-games Gilica is the continent that was named after you at the very end of the video. And I've seen the tips and trick video... Quit useful... f it only had been published 25+ years ago :).
Thanks for the tournament and the video. I always learn something when I see what other people have done.
spiffing became so old fuck this.
Heh, 'Dutch, of course'.
Yeah, But in this, it doesn't matter that much. Specially if you find a spot close enough
I love seeing how other players tackle the same challenge. Thanks so much Gil for putting this tournament on, I learned a lot. I did spam loads of planes and ships so cheesed my way to a large value! I didn't do any industry betting on town growth to bring in the cash as every "town" was a city. Looking forward to the next challenge.
Welcome, not only all were city, but growth was set to fast. You can also try older ones. Not all so "easy"
Nice run Gil.

A tiny bit. Other words, doesn't hurt.
Funny that I wasn't subbed. Fixed.

Honestly idk. Maybe if I get an inspiration

Thanks a lot. I suggest putting 0:00 in the description so we can navigate in your timestamps 😊
Took a while to understand, I didn't know that, thx
Reading through the category rules for this speedrun, they have changed 1 setting. They have number of industries listed as high instead of normal. I know you played actual default of normal so well done.
@@shannonfrommannum2341 Lol, you are right. And it slipped through the admins too.

As a newbie.. this guide is helpful for me 👍
Were there any artillery remaining from the REF at the end, when they got the Bombard bonus? Maybe the game gives the bonus to attack if an Artillery unit is adjacent. I couldn’t find anything about this online.
Hmm, idk, it shouldn't be a thing, but could have been the case.
a gilgames classic
What GRFs and settings are you using?
I think the main industries replacement set was Pikka's basic and NUTS and some visual grfs.
I use a slightly different multi platform terminus station design. It has a slightly higher throughput, but does sacrifice in it requires load bays. Its also one track wider than the station so it really doesnt shine till you have massive train volume.
@@joehelland1635 If you reach the throughput limit, just expand it, maybe add another line and split the station into 2x4 then 2x6 the another line and keep expanding as needed.
@@Gil-games i tend to heavily rely on my design for city end stations, and i use it throughout my others just as a visual continuity thing, as such its not great to bulldoze towns, so expanding past your initial size tends to be difficult. Because of this mine tend to be 8 to 10 bay stations and so i improved the throughput with a slightly optimized design focused on limiting track crossings. (0 in my case, but it does have bays for each platform) i tend to play on marco’s hard servers. Tons of fun seeing other peoples solutions to problems in real time :)
I'm sorry, you're playing badly.
@@halitkaya1312 Any reason why? Also you are welcome to break the record and prove your point that way.
@@Gil-games My aim is not to break the record. To ensure a more regular and stable rail organization in TTD. I don't know the size of the map. Laying out rails in this way can be effective in a large area, but it becomes very complex on maps such as 512x512. My method is to first build main railways and major intersections. Then, to build large typing stations in different corners of the map for each product group, and then to connect the resources to the main roads and convey them to general collectors. Thus, a less complex road line is created and it takes up less space in the long run. In addition, if you enter the train stations from one side and exit from the other side, you will reduce traffic and accidents as much as possible. If you place a traffic signal in each frame to increase the speed of the trains, you can speed up this record process even more.😇
It tells me you have no idea, what a speedrun is! The goal in this run is to get to 100% Company performance rating with default settings on a 256X256 map. AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. And not to build intricate networksy which i've done also FYI.
I remember playing this game as child that there were more nations to choose from, like Russians with bonus to fur trapping, Swedes etc, but the version I have on Steam only allows the standard 4 nations, do you know anything about that?
Well yes. This version never had more than 4 EU powers. Civ4Col had more options like Portugal and Russia among others. But we don't speak about THAT game....
@@Gil-games No it wasnt Civ4Col( Im not that young :) ) It was definitely original Colinization as far as I remember, maybe I had some weird modded version of it...
@@olegmajboroda7272 freecol has extra eu powers too. But the og doesn't. If you find it, let me know.
Dropping a line here because I’d like to see that version should it surface as well.

Good vid; I learned a lot from it. Thanks.
Some nice tips but it would be better if you had bulletpointed out the individual tips, it basically reads as a gameplay video, not as a top tips video.
You mean, to make a timestamp?
@@Gil-games Yeah that would be nice!

Great to see you back mate xxx
Guys, I wasn't gone...was I?
Started to play this game a month ago and I was having difficulties with signals, thank you so much for this tutorial
Great to hear, if you need anything, hop on the discord and ask.
finallyy
Did you waited for such a tutorial? 😁
Welcome back, Gil!
Signal gap of 2 is quite small - much smaller than necessary. For default settings it's probably fine but in a game with high maintenance costs you will want to have the signals about a train apart or, if there are a *lot* of trains following each other on a single lane, half a train apart.
I had played several games with high maintenance. Tried different gaps but ultimately always went back to 2. And yes, I tend to run as many trains on my lines as possible. I believe it's the best to show this, and maybe ppl will realize that they don't need that many, then the other way around.
Super interesting, love seeing people hug the terrain instead of just cutting in massive valleys
The good trains were originally 12 long trains but I needed the shorter trains for better frequency of deliveries.
Yeah, I thought that's the case
Thanks for the tournament. I learn something everytime I play one of them. And from your review too. (goode2shus)

@@Gil-games S0UNDS GREAT👍👍👍
I didn't even know the signals behaved like that. I always put them at the entrance of the station, I've only learned from the basic tutorials and the scenarios about two decades ago, I just did as they did in the scenario's! thank you, gamechanger !
Really satisfying to see all those trains go all that way with no bottlenecks! I need to practice to build like that
I have a how to playlist, don't say it will guide you to this level, but a good start.
After decades of playing this game, today I learned you can change the direction of the signals
Take my sincere condolences.
Very nice. During the entire route you are earning one million per second.
A small side product of a good network :D
Does the AI interface, in principle, provide enough resources to create this? By that I mean whether there's enough allocated ticks and memory to encompass all the complexities of the 1k x 1k map?
I don't exactly know what you are asking, but it's a scenario and I added the NUTS to it.
I need to start another open ttd save
Damn that's one impressive network you got there.
Far from perfect, but still working on it. Got an update from 2 to 4 ML.
This looks awsome!
