Next time consider a step bit to drill your holes. Not way expensive but will save you a tremendous amount of time. Nice project!
Finding wheels are the hardest part. Awesome work. I need to build one. 3 point is great for traveling but I still like the drag option. Guess you could have it both ways.
im trying to repair the same one ,do you know where i could buy the white plastic seeders,, im having a hard time finding them
The only place I could find them was from the AGCO dealer, they took TYE over some years ago. parts.agcocorp.com/us/en
Here's a tip. If there are no remotes on the rear of the tractor don't buy it unless you can negotiate to get them installed before you take possession.
Hello! Where did you get most of these new parts? I’m on my way to restore my 510 I just got from a guy here, I need to fix for sure grass seed box and fertilizer seed box , as the gears there are really bad, can you some how have an email contact do I can ask any question to you?
@@alexsilantyev4848 you can get most of the parts from a Case dealer, but some aftermarket parts are a lot cheaper at www.shoupparts.com/products/planter-parts/case-ih/
Are you for hire?
@@SteveKoenig-x7r I’m not, just do it as a hobby. Thank you for watching!
Great video, Where did you find majority of your tye parts?
www.shoupparts.com/products/grain-drill-parts/tye/ The ones I couldn’t find aftermarket I ordered from the dealer, which is parts.agcocorp.com/us/en
Thanks for showing the growth and not just the planting.
Thanks Mike, exactly what I was looking for to rebuild my seeder.👍👍
Michael, your work is beautiful ! Do you fabricate cultipackers to sell ? Or do you have a used one e for sale ? Never hurts to ask right .
I have not made any for awhile now, thanks for watching 👍🏻
1:45 How do ya get the disc openers off?
After you pop the center cap off there is a bolt underneath. You need to turn it the opposite direction as the disc would turn going forward. One side has right hand threads, the other has left hand threads. This way when the drill is moving forward, the discs tighten the bolts on both sides keeping them from coming loose
Thank you!!
Mike, we located a hub and got it installed. Works great; thanks for the tip. The next project is to replace the seed cup on the far right side of the drill when standing behind it. Based on your video (19:46) we'll need to remove the entire rod, replace the cup and then re-install the rod; correct? Any tips that we should keep in mind as we execute? Thanks again! Jeff
I found it’s a lot easier if you have a second person to help you put it back together, otherwise it’s pretty straightforward. Glad things are falling into place for you!
Mike, Great Video. I hope you are still monitoring this thread. A friend of mine and I just acquired a Tye 104-4404 pasture pleaser. Today the drive coulter broke where it connects to the disc (hub) that drives the chains. I've looked at several Tye parts stores on the web but can't seem to locate the part number nor the actual hub. Would you happen to know the part number and a parts dealer that would have the part on hand. Thank you so much! Jeff
An AGO dealer should be able to get you the part, but it will be pretty expensive. You may be better off trying to find a used one at a farm equipment salvage yard. www.agcopubs.com/parts_book/english/000-1208/104_114_drill_series_iv_series_v_5_7_ft_no_till_
@@michaelmiedema9687 Mike, thank you for the quick reply!!! In the last hour or so I've submitted about 8 web forms for salvage yards in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky (where I live). I'm hoping for a reply tomorrow..... Have a great evening.
Mike, do you happen to know the year that the 104-4404 was manufactured?
@@j_b_civ808 I don’t
Maybe my favorite so far, thanks for the dimensions.
How long did it take to plant 3 acres
A couple hours, a lot of stopping and turning around in this field. When I’m seedling my firebreak around a large field, I can do about 2 acres an hour
Use wheel bearing grease, it’s better than gun grease
Thank you . Just about to order my cover crops and I didn't consider this , excellent information
Great job
What color paint did you use?
The orange is what the powder coat shop had that was close to the original color, I’m not sure the name of it, the green is forest green
Just came across this, want to do this to mine. What is the color of white used?
It’s international harvester white, you can find the paint at Tractor Supply, I had mine powder coated, and they were able to match the paint
@@michaelmiedema9687 ok thanks, it just seems brighter than that paint
Wow! Amazing work and tenacity. This was so satisfying to watch.
Great channel
Mike, I am also in Michigan and have just purchased what looks to be the same unit. I loaded it with rye seed in the large seed hoper and planed. It looks to be planting over 200 lbs of seed / acre! I can not see and way of reducing the flow of seed. I like you have a 20 tooth sprocket and could start bu changing it to 10, but is that the only seed flow adjustment?
You should be able to open and close the seed cups by loosening the lock bolt on the large wheel on the side of the seed bin ( where the chain is attached to the sprocket). By turning that wheel it will move the square bar that goes through the seed cups to open them for more seed, and close them for less seed.
@@michaelmiedema9687 Is that for the large seed box also. I dont think mine has any wheel on it, just on the small seed box?
@@pauldelongpre202 it should have two, one with a 6 inch wheel for the large seed box one with a 3 inch for the small, they should be attached to the end of the square bar that runs through the seed cups
Excellent illustration
Just picked up a 104-4404 pasture pleasure need 4 press wheel frame almost 500 piece from agco and shoup doesn’t have them. Do you know of anywhere else to get parts new or used thanks have great day
Wow, that’s expensive. I guess I’d start searching the equipment salvage yards. I think they put the same ones on a lot of different models. Good luck 👍🏻
@@michaelmiedema9687 thanks, ya that’s what I thought to if I have to I guess I’ll have to make my own it was going cist more for those than for all other repairs it needs great video by way
Not sure where you’re at, but there is a large AG salvage yard in Indiana that ships parts if needed.
Are you still making them
Do you remember what the seeder opening was? I am planting sorghum and buckwheat. I was trying to figure out if a 1/4 inch gap will work for me.
Great job rebuilding your Tye. It looks great! I have one but not in nearly as good a shape. Can you tell me what size the drive coulter is supposed to be? Mine came with several coulters that were different sizes, due to wear I suppose.
Ive just purchased one just like yours. Its a pasture pleasure, but its a little rougher than yours was. Was wondering if you'd mind sharing some info on parts leads. Thanks
I’ve had really good luck with Shoup for a lot of the aftermarket items, but found some things you can only get from your local AGCO dealer. They took TYE over awhile back
Thanks Mike, I just finished making my 3pt cultipacker using this as a guide. Appreciate the informative videos.
I could watch this video 15x and still love it. Great job! Maybe I will be able to eventually have a no-till drill if I do it this way! Excellent video and explanations. Thank you
Great pictures at the end. Love your videos Sir.
Fantastic video man.
Fantastic content right here.
How many acres of beans did you plant where cage was?
3 all together
Mike, what horsepower tractor do you use to pull the 510? Is the 510 a 12' wide drill?
It’s a 10ft drill, and I was using a 40hp, but it pulled easily, I’m sure a 30hp would be fine
What is the trick to getting the old double disk openers off?
One side is right hand threaded (normal) the other is left hand threaded.. it’s designed so when the disk is moving forward the bolts tighten on both sides. You want to turn the bolts towards the back of the drill to loosen them. Hope that helps
Home made cultipacker with manufactured cultipacker parts, lol
Approximately how much did the rebuild cost?
Not sure on the total cost, most of it was the new discs and powder coating. Everything else was just time.
If the holes are at least 5/16" you can have them cut and then clean them up with a carbide bit in a die grinder.
Mike, it's been 2 years since you posted this video. Hope you're still monitoring the thread. I have a question that's not been addressed in the comments. I'm in the process of restoring my family farm to a pollinator friendly wildlife sanctuary/ tall grass prairie, southern Oklahoma. The 1st (35 acres) parcel is now ready for planting. The seed mix, which is heavily forbes, as well as native grasses, is 'fluffy'', as native mixes are. I noticed your drill doesn't have an agitator to keep the heavier seeds from settling to the bottom. The newer drills seem to have agitators. Do you think this is an issue for uniform distribution? Are you pleased with the out come of your plantings 2 years ago? Would appreciate any insight you (or others) may have.
The drill have done very well for me planting beans and many cover crop mixes, but it doesn’t do very good native mixes. They are too fluffy to feed through the seed cups. I don’t know if mixing the seed with something like pelletized lime would work or not.
@@michaelmiedema9687 Thanks for the follow-up.
tye has another box for native grass seed mikes drill doesn't have it it bolts behind the small grass box is about half the size of the main box it has adiitator shaft plus feeder cups for native grass.@@patrickbell2767
Nice fabrication and good paint job.
Is there anything you would change now?!? Fixing to try to build one just like yours. Thanks a lot for the in depth video
I had pretty sandy soil, if you were in heavy ground, you may need to be able to add some weight to it
@@michaelmiedema9687 this will be in agriculture ground. Fairly dense ground but not bad
Let me know how it turn out
About to go through this with the Ty I just picked up. Do you recall what the powder coat code etc was for the seed hoppers, frame etc? On the green pieces...spray paint, what color code, maker of spray paint etc? Thank you in advance.
Great Job it looks amazing. I have the dame drill. Do you know where I can get the small seed cups? I have a couple broken and can't seem to find them.
I believe the person who had the drill before me replaced all the small seed cups with Great Plains seed cups. I don’t know any more than that on mine
@@michaelmiedema9687 sounds good. Thank you sir.
How much did the small pond cost
NICE !!!!!!
My local agco dealer has never been much help for me with parts for my Tye drill, but I’ve had luck dealing with Paul Martin and son’s equipment in Napoleon, Ohio.
gracias me servira de arto esto😰😰😰🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭 mi sueño es crear mi sembradora para poder sembrar
Michael I have a model 10 best place to Source parts
Your local Case dealer should be able to get you most everything, though it may not be too cheap. I use Shoup for as much as I can for after market parts. Here is a good online resource, the diagrams are very useful www.messicks.com/cas/138977?sectionId=289573&diagramId=1136351
