Bobby Moore WHU Legends
Bobby Moore to most followers of the Hammers is West Ham United. From his debut in 1958 to the last games before he moved to Fulham in the mid 70s, Moore was always at the top of his game. A player who, despite his lack of pace, possessed a footballing brain that made acceleration unnecessary. With pinpoint passing and a level of anticipation that saved him and West Ham from goal danger on many occasions, Moore was the ultimate professional. As a man unassuming, as a player unsurpassed, it could only have been Moore who was good enough to captain England to World Cup Glory in 1966, the only time they have ever got to a final, let alone won the competition. Two years before, he captained West Ham United to FA Cup success in 1964 and then the European Cup Winners Cup trophy in 1965. The fact that these remain some of West Ham's greatest achievements all these years later, speaks reams about a player who was taken from us too soon in 1993 with cancer, aged just 51.

Steve Potts is one of the last true one club heroes whose career at West Ham United pre-dates the advent of the Premier League. He may have only ever scored one goal for West Ham in an illustrious 506 match career, but he was part of the 1985-86 season squad, and captained the side in the early part of the 1990s as well as earning the accolade of 'Hammer of the Year' twice in 1993 and 1995, as ...

Bryan 'Pop' Robson enjoyed two profitable spells at West Ham, but was ultimately denied a trophy, leaving after his first spell just before the FA Cup win of 1975, and then leaving his second spell just before the FA Cup win of 1980. Robson's prolific 104 goals in 254 appearances included a memorable 28 goals in the 1972-73 season when West Ham finished 6th in the old first division. Robson was...

Loved Pop Robson, my favourite goal by him was his brilliant looping overhead kick i think against Derby County at Upton Park in 1971/1972 .. i think it was covered by the BBC , pity you didn't include it here, great video though.

They don’t make them like him anymore. Billy Bonds epitomises everything football fans of every team wants in their players, dedication, commitment, professionalism and most of all loyalty, a fantastic professional in the days when players remained loyal to their clubs, a great clubman. My club Manchester City had 2 players who were all the above in the 1960’s and 70’s in Alan Oakes and Mike Doyle, 2 great clubmen.

In context, I thought Bobby Ferguson was a reliable and loyal player for West Ham.... clearly the West Ham management also thought he was given he was with West Ham for 14 years.

He was first choice keeper for 4 years and a reliable back-up to Mervyn Day and Phil Parkes for the remainder of his WHU career... bearing in mind all teams have two or three squad keepers.@@allanrobertstone4089

Sorry to sound very picky , I think those videos are great just perhaps giving my opinion, I'm very into to my football nostalgia and old foot action, so I get abit over passionate in my views haha, there is an amazing sight called ITV football 1968 1983 it's like a bible , ever month updated with more info on televised football from the past , also includes BBC sky stats, tells you everything more or less about the past, nerds like me get lost in it haha

Happy to agree with you if you can provide the stats - you might be surprised to find how few there were - certainly less than ten home games in a poor season, and there were plenty of those in 1970-71!

The one and ONLY MR WEST HAM , accept no imitations . Had the pleasure of bumping into Billy last Summer 2021 in Bromley , and i wanted to ask about the Redknobb scandle but i thought better of it . Billys too much of a Gentlemen to rake over the past , and he's a much better man than Redknobb

Not seen this video but I'm imagining that Bonzo wouldn't go into too much detail about that scumbag Redknapp. Bonzo was cut from the same cloth that Bobby Moore was cut from.

Brilliant video and thanks so much for posting it. But for crying out loud - you can't leave it there!! Actually, maybe you did the right thing. Billy Bonds just pips Trevor Brooking (by the width of an atom) to being my favourite Hammer of all time so it wouldn't have been nice to see him being cajoled into washing his dirty laundry in public. Thanks again - top video.
