I’m putting together a 510 whisper what is your thoughts on a 1-10 twist and here’s a ideal have you ever thought porting the barrel about half way into a sealed expanse chamber like a abrum tank to help cool the gases before entering your can and by the way before you start drooling and wondering where this girls been😂 your talking to her husband 😂
Yo Jade..... I went with the 7.5" twist because my experiments were designed with 1000gr bullets in mind. I think there are two useful 50cal platforms and my parameter has always been "over 1500 ftlb". For a true .510 Whisper and bullets up to 750gr I think the 10 twist is sufficient. Heck, it might be enough for the 1000gr stuff. No I don't believe in ported bbls :) So refreshing to see a man panting over his squeeze.... You Go Jade'sman
And to be clear..... it's the BARREL PORTING I object to. I agree totally with your idea, I'm just porting the stabilizer block at the muzzle instead of the barrel.
You made my day!! You can thank me later --> SMZeus!!!
I like to indicate at throat and then in front of throat. Easy to find if ever need to re set. Very similar as your doing. Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated
Exactly...... I indicate about two inches in front of the throat and have many times put used barrels back into the lathe to find zero runout clear out at the mouth of the chamber, inches away. In fact I've re-cut some chambers several times experimenting with "fat-butting".... I am trying 4 different diameters and tapers on my BMG chambers.
Clever. I’ll use this!
It's freakin' amazing. And if you fit a tapered/stepped cone to the handle you can change/effect any pitch you want to accomplish. You can quickly achieve perfect BR 'varmint' tapers just by wrapping automotive tape on the handle to increase it's diameter
Al Not knowing how you chamber your barrels I Sam assuming you time your muzzle barrel runout to 12 o’clock?
Thank you for your kind words....I've never told anyone and won't publish it but NO, I do not use the 12 O-clock position. Think "torque" ..... I've got a system based on twist-rate and bullet energy which I use to counter torque. It's based around the 6:00 position and my criteria is that if the rifle jumps and resets left or right of center I've got it wrong :)
Al I enjoy your channel. You have always had solid info that I’ve carried for many many years I don’t spend any time on BR central these days as I don’t have the time. I do however miss your intellect. Thanks for sharing. Let’s see some machining videos.
Holy Kowww..... you're starting back at the beginning, THANK YOU!!
Awesome video!
Those bullets with the loose core/tips can not possibly shoot well.
Just to be clear..... the tips are not actually loose inside the bullet. They're only loose after I mill them. My actual concern is that I simply cannot believe they're round, firm and fully packed :) I don't believe they can be truly balanced because when they squeeze the lead up around the aluminum insert it cannot be perfect.
@@opinionsby____al7501 I follow. I wonder what something like a bullet genie would say about them.
@@FullSendPrecision Aaron... what is a bullet genie?
Adg makes great rum brass. The only issue you will have is case taper. The bottom extra of the rum chamber will be literally straight. 0.555

Holy hell, now that’s a muzzle brake!!
hi, Sr what dust white use to the wrench action?
rosin, from a baseball rosin bag cut open
Your comments suggest you do this a lot. How often have you done it?
I've done 20 or 30 thru the years. I've also inletted a number from scratch or converted them from one platform to another. I've a stock I call my "Mule" which has had probably a dozen actions in it. As far as direct conversions from say BDL to "chassised" M5 bottom metal I've done at least a dozen after offering a customer "would you prefer to start from scratch, wait a few mo for the stock, or I will install a "chassis'd" M5 for 200.00 plus the cost of the metal"
😌 promosm
Zzickk..
Hi Al, Where did you get your barrel vice? Did you make it? Thanks.
I modified an aluminum Time Precision vise with the addition of the two steel plates and the addition of a third pulldown bolt per side. I did slip it just yesterday torquing a 50BMG bbl to 250ftlb.... had to crank on that liddle wrench hannle so hard my hand hurt ;)
@@opinionsby____al7501 Thanks Al.
I call it scientism. My ears go up when I hear that there is “consensus” on something or it’s “settled science” it always ends the same. More freedom is taken away, more rules applied. And the predictions made are never ever correct. They have a religion. It’s control over others. That’s what they desire more than anything. At least that’s my opinion. Anyways. Thanks man. Have a good one.
well said
Yo
Where does the rifle vise you use come from? Thanks
Brownell's carries them but I got my last one right from Berry's
You make some good points. 1. Powders on a basic burn rate chart don't always follow that burn rate when used in a different case. 2. Bending the rules to make something better or....to use whats available. 3. Galling lugs by not greasing and thumbing down on tight brass due to neck sizing only. Good stuff!
What's the brand of your barrel vise ? It looks very strong
Brownell's carries them but I got my last one right from Berry's
BR, I miss-spoke! Actually I miss-read your question! I didn't answer your question at all. BARREL VISE not gun vise. That is a Time Precision barrel vise upon which I've ADDED the two steel plates and also ADDED a third pull-down bolt.
Al, I use Q-tips on the clean up. Use small pieces of paper towel first, the Q-tips. Then basically nothing left to do. Calvin
so true ;) also note the small box of cut and trimmed popsicle stix, those sometimes get wrapped with paper towel to make oddly shaped "Q-tips" for use in the tight sections
Nice sunglasses, bro! 😎
For me it's always a little stressful moment, even if I know there's enough release agent 😅. I use some neutral Kiwi shoe polish, leave it drying a moment then make it shine by polishing with a piece of nylon stockings to remove the excess (the thinner the better)
Hey! I done learn't something... nylon stocking huhh? I've never tried that I've just polished with paper towel
@@opinionsby____al7501 Just make sur your wife doesn't make wrong ideas when seeing you playing with her stockings in the workshop 😂
Hey, I miss you on Accurateshooter. Used to love reading you.
Tx Danny..... I enjoyed my time there
Keep the videos coming!
Great project ! To dampen the recoil of the WSM you'll need some weight : very heavy barrel and a strong receiver to hold it.
Not to be nitpicky but you don't 'dampen' vibration.... you damp it :). Dampening is done with a wet paper towel
I didnt know your channel, I subscribe

Great video, thank you! So these containers of N130 that you'll never use...how can I help you get rid of them?
LOL!! Ohhh I'll use 'em...... just not in a 6PPC
i purchased a ruger american 223 over 12 months ago, its been back and forth to the shop and the importer with this issue on factory, store bought ammo. the firing pin is .077, but also exhibited the primer backing out on low pressure hand loads. this rifle was replaced under warranty, but the replacement also exhibited the same issues, i had given up for a few months until last week where i decided to tackle this again myself hopefully i can find a gunsmith in australia that can bush a primer pocket for me and set the headspace correctly
Enjoying your videos. Thanks for making them.
Thanks for watching!
