It's time to Make Exhaust Great Again. rinehartracing.com
Which is better, H-pipe or a Y-pipe?
8 to 1
The Y pipe does a good job of exhaust scavenging, but it doesn’t equalize the backpressure as well as the H pipe, which is much more important on M8’s.
Thank you for answering this question that has been bugging me forever. Do you have any opinions on properly designed lollipops for non stepped pipes?
So what should we be looking for in an exhaust system besides the spiral baffle?
In a True Dual, you want something with equal length headers front and rear, or a system with some type of crossover or balance tube, to help with exhaust scavenging.
Thanks for the explanation! We had the motopro45 on our previous bike and now the dbx45 on this bike. Both sound great and exactly as you explained, the dbx45 are a little louder but not too loud. We ride a lot of long days and the great thing about the dbx45 is they aren't real loud until you want them to be. During normal riding, they are fairly quiet until you crack the throttle, then they come alive. Thanks for a great product, guys!
Thanks for trusting our pipes on your bikes!
Would love a video on the topic of Cats in your header and the cats in the mufflers when you purchase the entire exhaust system. Thanks! Long time Rinehart fan!
But isnt the stock header a 2 into 1 anyway ?
2-1-2?
@@paulg5835 yes but its a 2 into 1 before it goes under the back of the transmission, so it still acts like a 2 into 1, at least on a bagger..
@@aussie_xsf Ahh. I see what you’re saying. Than basically just hooked the crossover to it at that point.
@@paulg5835 I would still like to compare with a 2 into 1
Yes, but no. The stock header mashes the front and rear headers together into a single pipe, but it’s not designed to function the way a collector on a 2-1 system is. We believe the stock headers are only designed that way to give a place for the catalytic converter, and performance doesn’t really enter into it. Also, routing of the stock headers makes the rear header significantly longer than the front, leading to an imbalance of backpressure. To really make power, especially torque, a collector needs to be able to provide a quick path for exhaust coming out of the motor, while also equalizing backpressure.
Could you expand on the stepped theory? Wouldn't expanding the space the exhaust flows into, cause it to slow down? Seems like you'd want the exhaust moving as fast as possible.
We've got a video coming out shortly to answer this!
@@rinehartracing4419 great
Good stuff
Appreciate it!
Would you think about making them so that they can be easily removed? I have a set of DBX 40’s and the end caps are in there so tight they are almost impossible to remove.
After being on the bike for awhile, the heat can make them harder to remove. We recommend a strap wrench to get them off if they're too tight to twist by hand!
@@rinehartracing4419 that makes sense, but mine were that way right out of the box. I’ve never worked with anything so difficult to remove, even with a strap wrench they were extremely hard to remove.
Hey are you guys coming out with Black Chrome 2-1 exhaust for the 2018 and up Softail M8? Please say yes
It's being redesigned but we hope to have it out soon!
Will you be releasing slash cut for 4 inch love the look
Yes! In process now! Keep an eye out for the announcement!
Just installed Rinehart 500-0504 on 2018 Indian scout. My question is can I wrap fiberglass around the baffle to dampen slightly? It’s just a tad loud.
yes you can!
What you are talking about - Exhaust Gas Reversion - is very rare, except in race engines with lots of valve overlap. What is far more common, especially in V-twins, is Pressure Wave Reversion. When the exhaust valve opens, a High Pressure Sound Wave travels down the exhaust pipe (at the speed of sound). In an open straight pipe, when that sound wave hits the open end, a Negative Pressure Wave reflects back up the pipe and when that pressure wave hits the exhaust port, it seriously interferes with efficient cylinder scavenging. That’s why short straight pipes on a Harley absolutely kill your low and mid-range torque. And also why the stock exhaust with baffles, which breaks up the initial pressure wave, and block any reflected return wave, have very good low and mid-range torque. Take a close look at two-stroke expansion chamber exhaust design , and you will see how critical this sound wave management is. In the case of a two-stroke, the returning sound wave pushes the escaping fresh charge back up the exhaust port and packs the fresh charge into the cylinder - like a reverse turbo charger. But based on the length of the pipe, dime tio s of the straight section, and the angles of the cones, the pipe is tumed to a very narrow RPM range (based on the speed of sound). That’s where the expression “coming on the pipe” originates. When the two hits that target RPM range, the power hits like a freight train.
Don’t the slimline duals headers still have the cat in them?
Yes they do. You can check out the dyno sheet on our website, but the new slimline with a catalyst pull higher torque and horsepower than the old system without. It works really, really well with the M8 and the sound is tuned by us to be even more aggressive.
Just as a follow up for clarity, our Slimline Duals Full System (Slip-ons included) do have a cat that is placed in the slip-on to move heat away from the rider. The info above about pulling higher torque and horsepower vs the old system without cats is still true!
@@rinehartracing4419 Do you have to buy the whole system? If I already have slip ons?
I like that you were truthful and didn't try to push the full system. We bought 2 sets of Slipons from you guys and love the sound and quality. Great company!
Thanks for trusting our name on your bikes!
Great job, Shawn. These types of videos are very helpful to our customers. Maybe a video on the differences between or baffles.
We've had 2 sets of your slipons, MotoPro45 & DBX45. Both sound great! I'm on the fence about which one sounds better. My wife likes the DBX45
It's subjective for sure, but that's why we have some options to find the right one for you! Thanks for the comment!
Will the black chrome be available for the new 2-1 Softail? I really hope so
I installed it and motor revsup
I went els where after waiting 130 days you suck
Can you tell me if there’s been any issues with excessive heat on the bags with the shorts? HP45 not the XLs
None that we've heard of and none on our ST with HP45's on it that we ride and test with!
Those would look insane on the ST. Those match up the wheels pretty well, and would just give it that extra pop
What if I don't want to INSTALL new baffles, will it hurt my bike?
Baffle changes are optional. We offer different baffles that provide a different riding experience, but you do not have to make a change if you don't want to!
We made that! Well done design and manufacture teams! You rock.
We love our Rinehart BST Carbon Fiber wheels!!!🎉
How much are these and … sound clip?

GOT THEM I,M REINHERT GUY I,M ON THE VIDEO WITH THE CEO IM THE GUY WITH THE BLUE HAT
I see slip ons fall shorter then saddle bags and full system is longer than saddle bags on ST models. Is this correct from what I’ve seen in pics?
We have two models of the HP45 available. The model in this video are a short muffler, called the HP45 and they fall short of the bags. The HP45XL is a full length muffler than will extend past the saddle bags. You can see them both on our website at rinehartracing.com

??? Where is the sound of the mufflers?

Not really! It's more of a preference on style and looks!
I just ordered those pipes and I can't wait to get them on the 15th, who painted that bike. It's awesome
Roach Pinstriping from Myrtle Beach, SC did the paint!
Did you ever get them on your bike? I have a 23 street glide ST debating on placing my order.

@@erikjorgensen5370 Some pictures would be great if you don't mind!
Just bought a White Sand Pearl Road Glide ST last Saturday, thinking the same on these, would love to hear them!
I just ordered these baffles for my Indian Challenger. I thought I was crazy, sitting there like, "I don't remember louder baffles being available when I bought my pipes..." so excited to try these.
How are they?
Would removing baffles from D&D exhaust be the same?
Hey Duncan. You'll need to reach out to D&D for instructions on their products.
Gottem on my 19' SG and I love them!! 😁
The brand new end caps with brand new slip ons do not come apart that easy and if you wedge them apart it ruins the aluminum edge making the old caps unusable or sellable - your company should offer the upgraded caps already installed on the slip ons
Thanks for that input. We'll pass it along to our design team!
Aaron , What chemical are you using to clean the slip ons with?
We use Klock Werks products cleaning products!
@@rinehartracing4419 Thank u!
Mine's a day old on my breakout. Sounds good. But the resonance/droning inside my helmet is driving me nuts 😆 what can i do about it? Should i wear earplugs instead?
and i just out a set of rineharts yesterday on my new one this is funny
holy shit thats me
My original classic baffle had the rtv silicone at the front of the baffle. Is that needed for vibration or leakage?
We definitely recommend it for Chrome end caps so that the exhaust gas does't leak and discolor the chrome!
Yup! Running on both my baggers.
What are the loudest baffles you offer for your slip on mufflers? I have a 09 ultra classic with your slip on mufflers and would just like for it to be a little louder but like the tone of your mufflers.
What size are your mufflers?
@@rinehartracing4419 sorry for the late response but the tip openings are 3 inches at the back but the pipe looks bigger so maybe 3.5 pipe with a 3 inch tip?
Give us a call at 877-264-8282 and one of our staff can help figure out what you currently have and make a recommendation that way!
That's great for brand new never ran stuff. Gets a bit tougher doing same thing with equipment that's been ran for thousands of miles over couple years where condensation has got between the end cap and muffler can causing corrosion and oxidation. I have had to spray with pentetration oil and use rubber band wrenches on end caps to twist and brake them loose. Love Rhinehart exhaust. keep up the good work.
True! Aaron also recommends using a good bit of PB Blaster for bikes from Florida with all that corrosion! Thanks for the comment!
Great video, yes to the cold one, lol
