American Girl dolls have a Canadian Cousin! (AKA Maplelea Girls crash course + opinions)

A brief dive into the backstory of Maplelea Girls, a Canadian 18" fashion doll line by Avonlea Traditions Inc. You might know them as "knockoff American Girl dolls", but that is NOT what they are. I will also be giving my opinions on the 7 core character dolls (spoilers: I like them :) ).

As an AG dolls collector, I’m also starting to collect the maplelea line and I find them to be pretty neat as well 🙂.
Our Generation dolls are beautiful! They made amazing improvements a few years ago. Available through Target in the US.
I would totally understand if Candace stores would rather sell Maplelea because they are about Canada so they probley would appeal more to kids in Canada
I hope that’s the plan! It was kind of shocking to go into indigo, the only stores in Canada that sell ag in person (aside from ag stores of course but I don’t know if they’re even open anymore) to not have ag. I hope they do replace them with Maplelea.
Target sells the Our Generation dolls and Walmart sells the My Life As dolls in the USA.
My daughter first AGD is Kaya. I have Addy. I have Claudie and her accessories. Nanea outfit is sooo cute she is one of the doll’s on my wish list. I don’t have Maryellen but I do have her a couch and table I wish I had her tv. I like Julie, Courtney, Isabel and Nicki outfits. I’m happy AG did a new line of Julie’s clothe’s and accessories I just bought. Melody, Josefina, and Rebecca. And I agree JUSTICE FOR JULIE!! Kaya is a pretty doll. I thought I was the only one saw her look as being def.❤ Your thoughts.
I just bought two Maplelea doll’s Leonie, Jenna bundle and six outfits. Because I have over thirty AGD…… And I will buying more of Maplelea doll’s and clothing.❤

That’s the thing! Her original outfit felt authentically 70s, whereas this outfit feels like what a costume shop thinks the 70s were like
Addy's original dress was pink
Oh yes ! It was ! And it was long sleeved. I think I prefer her in this blue colour, she looks very pretty in royal blue

YES ! I think bringing back the companion doll line for the historical girls would be cool, if they add Kaya’s sister. I did some reading Speaking Rain is also blind so she would be the first canonically blind doll in AG History which would also be awesome
I just found your channel. I am loving your relaxed platform (your doll is so adorable)! Great ambiance with the Squishmallows in the back round and the artwork. This is a good idea for a video. Timely and well researched. As a 90s AG doll collector I have recently discovered Maplelea as well. I have Jenna. They are beautiful dolls and more so in person. Great hair and clothes quality. I like what the company represents too. Subscribed!
Thank you so much !!!! This means so much to me! Honestly I really love Maplelea, I grew up with getting the catalogue, and I also have Jenna !!! They had an Anne of green gables outfit for her which I’m not sure if they still have.
@@Jouchprincess I would love to have an Anne of Green Gables outfit. I think there is a new interest those stories and has been for awhile it would sell. 🙂I got a pair of glasses for my Jenna and she looks so cute in those.
Also the Maplelea line of clothing/accessories are exceptionally well made.
While Kaya is currently the only Native American doll AG has, I would say they put a huge deal of care into her also. She was in production for 5 years I think? And she represents the Nez Perce tribe😊 edit: I'd also add that Julie's current meet outfit is atrocious, but you may like her original outfit better! It is more period accurate I live in the US, so I haven't had a chance to get a Maplelea doll yet. I'm torn between Taryn and Saila!
Thank you for telling me about this. I hope more Native dolls are coming from doll brands soon, when brands put in the effort, consumers can tell!

Tbh Julie's original outfit is literally the best outfit ever!!!! I was so tempted to buy an og julie off of depop but I really dont need more dolls. My doll creation wishlist currently is a Metis doll from Maplelea, and another Native doll, maybe a GOTY from AG. That would rock.

I was so happy to see you talk about Maplelea dolls. I am from Canada. Actually I live closest to the doll from SaltSpring Island. I do own Taryn and I would love to add Saila to my collection one day. 😊
I love Maplelea dolls! I feel like they were super overshadowed by AG and are now known as “rip offs” which is not true bc the quality of the dolls are AWESOME!! And I think a ton of care has gone into each doll, especially Saila, I would LOVE to have her one day

Im so glad they changed at LEAST kit’s. Kit’s Beforever meet outfit was this garish teal, red and white dress that made NO sense. It was so generic and ugly
What a fun video - just subbed and am excited for more! I totally agree about Kaya though, she's EVERYTHING and I wish she wasn't our only indigenous representation - it's been almost 22 years. Also, I brought my childhood 2004 Kaya doll to the Chicago store last December and putting her next to the Kaya display dolls was wild - they lightened her skin significantly at some point, maybe during BeForever. She's still a cute doll, but that move is def not a good look. 😅
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!!! I cannot believe they lightened her skin (I can bc it’s AG and Mattel…. But it’s still very disappointing, especially with a lot of the cool dolls we’ve gotten like Claudie, and last years girl of the year Kavi)! I hope the next historical girl doll is a really beautiful Indigenous doll, I think they could make a really really cool doll with cool accessories.
