Switched the original 12AT7 pre-amp tube for a 12AX7. Also, the cage in the back that protects the Rectifier and Power tube rattled. I removed it and put a 1/16 inch thin piece of rubber behind it and re-screwed it in, no more rattle.

    The effects on the XD is way more useful,I use reverb with the effects level on 3 and it works great. The tap tempo is why I went with the XD and I love it just as much as my Princeton and Bassman.

    Hi you are a genious and your right pairing the on board amps and cabs choke up the unit. I just purchased this Boss ME80 for 185 today 05/09/2024 and added it to my Boss Collection the GT3 ,GT5,The GT6 ,GT8 and the GT10 alongside My GT100 and GT1 and GT1000 and last but not least the GT PRO rack with floor controller. Thanks a lot for showing me simplicity. I dig it man. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉cheers🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ Oh By the way my Amp im using is a Peavy Renoun 400 1981 set to pure clean no reverb i removed it. Bad reverb tank so the ME 80s reverb is awesome to a DI box to my multtrack Korg D3200 no buzzing. Ground lift. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤

    A lot of vhoices on the preamp, but you only really need to find one good sound (amp) for direct work. All those lovely effects are still there for you to go with that, so just find a good clean tone adding plenty of mids to it.

    All the people saying they should buy this amp, just because it was discontinued, are not taking important information into account. Everybody knows this is a Digital Modeling Amp that relied heavily on Fenders FUSE software. They also know that FUSE was discontinued as well. And I'm pretty sure they learned that this amp is not backwards compatible with Fender Tone, the current software. It's not like you're buying a red knob 'EVIL' Twin.

    The amp not working memorizing the effects doesn’t make the effects “crap” or “horrible”, they are just not usable for channel switching.

    Hi, I also use the Boss ME-80 and a Fender Champion 100 amp. My question is, if you are not using any pre-amp with your ME-80, does that mean you're using the pre-amp of your Fender amplifier? Also, I always have plug in the headphones area to activate the cabinet emulation because without it, it sounds crapy to me. Aren't you using the cabinet emulation in your video? It sounds amazing.

    Oh by the way, I forgot to mention a little thing I picked up along the way that also aids with the tone if needed. You can plug a pair of headphones or earbuds into the phones jack in the back of the unit while playing through your amp... or if you have either of those that no longer works you can simply cut just the 3mm end off leaving about 1/8" of the cord attached and plug it in the headphone jack while playing through your amp. The way in which it changes the tone is mind-blowing lolol.

  • @nuthinbutlove

    Okay, I'm not sure why UA-cam put you in my mix but I'm so glad they did! I've owned one for awhile now but there were a few things I couldn't figure out that you cleared up for me. By the way, I began using Boss processors in the late 90's and tried to set my first one using the headphone jack and learned the hard way that processors sound very different through amps than they do the headphone jack. After I spent days setting it using the headset it sounded awful when i plugged it into my Twin lol. Great video! Thanks 👍

    That'll get it done. I showed up to an open mic about a year ago and used a guy's rig: it was an older one of these units going into a quilter interblock 45 pedal shaped amp, into a little 10 inch cabinet. I didn't think it was going to get the job done, but it worked great! It cut right through the mix, felt good, had enough gain. It doesn't have to be complicated!

I’ve a fender tonemaster deluxe reverb and all I’m seeing is folks talking about using the 4 cable method to get a great sound out of the ME-90. OMG. Your vid is the FIRST vid I have seen showing how to PROPERLY use this unit. The ME50 never even had Amp modelling. Amp modelling was added to the ME line AS AN AFTERTHOUGHT. Modelling was getting even bigger and Boss had to add it to keep the unit selling, but it's original purpose WAS TO PLUG DIRECTLY INTO THE FRONT OF AN AMP!!! Your amp front end is the preamp, you use that with this unit, or at least that's how it was originally designed. You don't turn the preamp on in this unit then use another preamp in your amp as well. It was designed to REPLACE A PEDAL BOARD!!. Once they put amp modelling on almost everyone just uses them like a POD and this is why all the bad reviews, BECAUSE THEY DON'T USE IT PROPERLY!!. COSM amp modelling SUX, it isn\t even as good as the original pod or the poid XT. I have an XT, and also Amplitube 5 for the PC, which is a hundred times better than COSM amp modelling, it isn\t even close. You would have to be insane to buy the ME80 to use direct with amp modelling on. So in all reviews besides this one, they either use this direct into a computer with the crappy COSM amp modelling, OR, OR, OR, they do use it through the front of an amp, BUT THEY TRY AND USE THE ME80 preamps with amp modelling while the idiots are already going into the preamp of their amp. So it gets bad reviews either way in those situations. A few hook nit up the right way with an amp because they at least run it direct into the effects loop in of their amp, which is hooking it up right since they are bypassing the amps preamp, but even then they are then just using the crappy COSM amp modelling and it still sounds nowhere near as good as many other amp modellers of even that time. My POD XT does better amp modelling, even my old Behringer Vamp unit used to do better amp modelling way back then. So don\t use the COSM AMP models and then complain. I will use them for practicing over headphones, but always remember this unit\s main purpose was always to replace a pedal board. You run it into the instrument/guitar input at the front of your amp just the same as you plug your guitar into. Then TURN THE COSM PREAMP modelling OFF and use the pedals like using pedals in front of your amp. I am getting delivery of my ME80 tomorrow. I used to own the ME70 and regretting ever selling it so I figured I would get the 80. The ME90 is outr but not at many stores and really, the ME 80 is everything I need and the 90 has modelling stuff I don\t care for because they could never equal my Amplitube 5 modelling for recording. It has a loop now but I don\t need that. And pedals I want to run with it I can just plug in before it anyway, and so most I the new ME90 features down\t really apply to my needs as I will be using this for recording and running it into the front of my tube amp using none of the COSM modelling amps. I have to record with my amp in a closet with moving blankets around it to keep noise down and stop relfections. So this will stay hooked up and I can just turn it and my amp on and start recording. Anyway, sorry for rambling but I have been steaming about the horrible reviews and seeing how so many owners simply don\t know how to use this thing properly. Thank you for making this great video and at least there is one person we know of that understands how to properly use this theng and knows what it was always intended to do.

    This is very, very good information for the ME-80. I found myself doing this as well a good while back. Once you take out the preamp section and start with a very nice clean tone on a good sounding clean amp, it then truly comes alive. I am using a the "Power Amp In" on a Katana MK2 50 watt amp and it's definitely a great place to start! This video has some very good information in it!

    • @musicdreamerish
      @musicdreamerish Рік тому

      If you are NOT using the preamp modelling then you should be going into the front of your amp, not the loop is. The loop in expects a preamp to be being used in front of it. You can then use the amp modelling if you want in that situation, BUT, that will never sound as good as using it straight in to a tube amp and turning off the stupid preamp and then it will sound it\s best. This was designed for you to still enjoy using your great amp preamp in your amplifier. So plug it itin to the front of your amp.

      When running into the front of the amp, I don't use the ME-80 preamps as my amp sounds good. Does you amp have a loop? If so, run the ME-80 into the loop and try the onboard preamos. This is where the ME-80 preamps sound better.

    • @MrFatPallasCat
      @MrFatPallasCat Рік тому

      @@JE-western-rider thanks for your great answer. Like it's said in the video I don't use the ME80 preamp section. I use it just like a bunch of stomp box pedals in one going into my amp. Yes, my lovely delta blues 1x15 has an effects loop. The processor won't turn off the amps preamp section if I run it in loop right ??
