MY FIRST LEOPARD GECKO | enclosure set up, reptile haul, unboxing | Lee
I've been in love with reptiles for so long but never owned one myself. This is my first reptile and I decided to get a leopard gecko! If you have any suggestions to make her life even better, please let me know down below. It's been a week since i got her and so far she's been eating well and is very active around her enclosure. I did change her substrate to paper towels since she is a juvenile and the loose substrate was worrying me. Hope you enjoy and I forgot to mention her name which is RAPUNZEL!
PS: I seem like I'm loud in the end I was speaking normally but the mic picked up on my voice since I was closer.

    Amazing! Any tips since you got the gecko? For example, im getting an uvb light, do i still need to feed it with d3 calcium?

    • @Lyanachavez
      @Lyanachavez 2 місяці тому

      @@Daansji if the uvb light is set up properly and the right amount of inches away from the basking spot to the light then no you don't need to use a d3 calcium supplement only the one without d3 :)

  • @asmrtastic
    @asmrtastic Рік тому

    Noo you shouldn’t use substrate…when you feed him he can swallow the dirt and die or even when he’s walking in it or possibly drinking or sleeping and it could get in it’s vent also they’re originally from the desert so the carpet or paper towel is just fine and don’t use actual sand tho because it doesn’t have all the advantages and etc. just plz 😅

  • @drinkallthesunshine

    Reptile carpet isn’t recommended for leopard geckos. It can cause extreme harm to their toes and mouth/teeth. And I personally would change the humid-hide to something simpler like a moist paper towel. Actually I wouldn’t even have a substrate at all in the enclosure as a beginner. I would start with something simpler like just paper towels. Leopard geckos generally only “go potty” in one area, so easier to clean. Then you can get into substrate. I also don’t think that’s the best choice as a humid-hide, including the mode, the humid hide should have a flat bottom and they shouldn’t have to climb just to get into it. And you should probably get something to monitor the humidity in the enclosure to make sure it’s got a cool zone of mid to low 70s, and then upgrade to a better quality thermostat for the heat mat, or even looking to heating tape. And you should have it like a third of the way through the enclosure. Instead of half hot, half fold.

    • @drinkallthesunshine
      @drinkallthesunshine 2 роки тому

      I also don’t know cause you didn’t mention, I don’t see any uvb light getting out in the enclosure. So I’m not sure how but it’s extremely important for when you feed, that you do give them uvb lighting for 12 hrs a day set up on a timer. The heat should be a gradual variant and it’s important to monitor the hot, middle and cool zone temps as well as overall cage humidity. Also I forgot if you said you’re giving the gecko calcium but calcium with d3 is really important plus reptivitamine, sort of a multivitamin powder. And I know you don’t like crickets but it’s good to switch up the diet so they’re not just relying on only one food as you don’t want an underweight nor overweight gecko so a kitchen scale weighing in grams would be good. I probably wouldn’t have taken it out of the box and just held it on a lid straight after being shipped. That’s extremely stressful and you want to carefully remove the gecko from the shipping container and place in the enclosure immediately. I also wouldn’t hold it out while sitting on a couch. Ideally in the beginning, you should be seated farther back on the couch or a bed or the carpet. Somewhere where it’s not gonna fall off the lid of a container and plummet to its death during one of the most stressful times - shipment of a newborn. I’m not sure how old you said you’re gecko is but they’re not able to be fully confirmed one gender or another until about 6 months. I personally think 6 small duster crickets are pretty important every other day in the beginning if it’s a baby to help it grow, and keep it on the warm side as they can’t digest food properly unless they have heat just like with almost any other reptile. Lastly I would get reptile eye drops cause although leopard geckos do she’d themselves and let them actually eat the skin cause it has vitamins and nutrition from its shed, but always look around the mouth and especially the eyes to see if you notice any stuck shed. It can cause completely blindness in your gecko. And depending on the morph, you’re gecko might already be prone to blindness or neurological issues to begin with. So helping remove the stuck eye shed just using q-tip warmed and moistened from the humidhide paper towels is an easy way to remove the eye shed, then apply a little bit of the repti eye drops. There’s a lot of big leopard gecko UA-camrs and also people that taken in poorly looked after and rescue dying bearded dragons that point this stuff out. Also if it is a boy, you’re gonna have to check for clogged femoral pores and sperm plugs in the vent area which can cause severe wounds, and with a girl, you may encounter problems with egg bound eggs during ovulation. Which I is definitely time for a vet check. Again there’s bigger UA-camrs on here that can tell all this more in-depth. But if you get shipped a “baby or juvenile” and were told it’s a he or is a she. That crap cause you can’t tell until they get older and bigger.

      Thank you for the input I did change everything within a week of this set up. She was getting vitamin d through feedings by dusting but I switched to the uvb bulb. Her substrate is tile and I hated that humid hide so I got her a neck enclosed rock which she loves. I'm still learning new ways to make her enclosure better but in regards to monitors she has 3 temperature and humidity readers. Thank you again I love learning more about reptile care

    Eco earth is too dusty when dry. You can use it for the humid hide though ☺️ Reptile carpet harbours bacteria and their toes and teeth gets stuck Heating pads are outdated The other things you got are great!☺️ And the size of your viv is a awesome ! Maybe you can build a background and make a video out of it ☺️

They are known to have one of the smallest ears in reptile planet and they are very sensitive I have 3 leopard geckos and I know how to be quiet just whisper! I have 1 named sunny he was my first leopard gecko and he’s so big!
